The Manchester United Thread

Does anyone think we'll add another player? Or does Pogba wrap up a successful window? I personally think we're still a little bit light at the back for a possible 60 game season, and before people start naming out all the centre halfs, I don't just mean quantity (Jones is injury prone, Rojo is a little bit of a liability, likes of McNair/Blackett etc more than likely getting the door, etc).

Is still think Bailly will prove to be the buy of the summer for us even tho he's the least big name of all out signings.

Interesting to see where Jose will play him. I think he can play a double pivot BUT the shackles will need to be taken off...a bit like fabregas in the first half of the season he wok the epl with them.

OR

Play him up top in a midfield of three alongside Herrera and schniederlin. This kills two birds with one stone: Ensures were utilizing him correctly and It aids benching rooney

His role is Pogba role, as there's no player quite like him. It's up to Mourinho to utilize that, he can certainly be devastating if used right.

But then sometimes there's problems with players who don't quite fit into existing tactical schemes. Roberto Baggio always comes to mind. One of the most brilliant players anybody has ever seen, but he always seemed out of place with how football was played in Italy back in his day.

Can't wait to see how it turns out, hopefully Jose plans to build the team around him, you don't break world records for just another name on the team sheet.

I think with this deal, it wasn't about a certain type of player, but he wanted what Paul Pogba can do, and what he can become. This side will have Pogba at the heart of it.

I think we are done unless something arises. He wants another CB, in a Vidic mould. Best is Godin, and he's not up for sale.

Anything now will be opportunistic

Closest is Renato Sanches, and talented as he is, and i think he can too become brilliant, he is not on Pogba's level.

De Gea actually had a lot less work last year, but then LVGs style was mostly about safety first.

He still bailed them out massively.

Smalling's mistakes were high and if for example Mingolet had been behind him would of lead to more goals. As De Gea was, the mistakes-goals was minimal.

Still by far and away the best bit of business Utd have done for the second straight summer. Keeping hold of him and attention away.
 
Smalling wasn't even in the top 20 for errors, so that's not true.

Mike. never underestimated him by saying he isn't as good as Pogba. This is very true actually. Of course, he can be as good or even better or he could become the second coming of Anderson too. You never know. But I'm really happy we haven't spent 80m on him, 'cos that's what I'd call for a gamble.

Stats are irrelevant Mike didn't you know? you have to watch football with your eyes like good old Phil Thompson says, its all about that innate football acumen of just knowing when it comes to football :P

Smallings doesn't often make mistakes. He can have those moment but not nearly as consistently as you make it sound like.

I watched pretty much every game, and the defense allowed VERY little clear chances to the opposition. There's a reason why they mostly kept clean sheet even with shaky Romero, so to say they would have been in terrible shape with Mignolet in place of De Gea is just plain wrong.

Of course DDG is world class and he bailed them out many times, but it was nothing like Moyes days where without DDG they would've probably finished 12th or something.

A lot of the goals were from counters since LVG played very aggresive pressing, but that's just something you need to accept if you're playing like that. The team was actually drilled superbly in terms of how they pressed, often they were squeezing the life out of opposition. What they did with the ball after winning it, is another story. All that hard work and high press was wasted, because after winning the ball they just went back to sideways passing for eternity.

Jose won an EPL title with Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic in his defense so I think United will be just fine either way ...
