The Manchester United Thread

More about covering Januzaj's really stupid decision to go to Dortmund. He was very flowery with his praise of him, despite him giving a withering private assessment of what he needs to improve on

All that is well and good, I just don't understand why he has to make a subtle dig at LVG for no rhyme or reason and for semantics sake, if one is to argue that I am being cynical and it was not meant as a dig, why phrase the statement in such a way that allows for the cynical intepretation? No other manager in the EPL seems to have such problems.

Because everyone has already decided whatever he is doing must be a dig or and elaborate plot. A lot of people at the club were annoyed more wasn't done to block the Dortmund move last year. And LVG didn't care much for Januzaj. Kids got a large and fragile mind, and given his strop it's a simple rally round

The simple truth is there are places LVG should get praise as areas that deserved slamming.

Agreed that the move to Dortmund was stupid. All I am saying is, there was no need for Jose to phrase the statement or 'rally round' in this way to have a dig at LVG. Its a small issue anyways so no point going on and on about it but its the continuance of these small jibs that eventually leads to the bigger meltdown somewhere down the line. United will need to draw a line firmly at one point or another.

Apparently it is because he would have a ban to serve in Italy due to bookings in the Coppa Italia and so the FA brought it over. Guess he won't be making his debut vs Bournemouth then.

The FA site for checking suspensions is now broken as well. Some solid work there from them.

He got 8 goals last season too.
Can we have them Mr FA??

******* wankers.

Agreed but its not Mourinho's place to do that. You don't see Conte slamming Mourinho for the debacle he put Chelsea through last season. Neither do you see Pep doing the same to Pelligerini. I am all good if you take jibs at rival managers but I don't see why he needs to have a go at someone like LVG or Benitez who both did a lot for United and Chelsea respectively before Mourinho came and are not even rival managers.

Having a small jab and it barely counts as that. doesn't mean an eventual meltdown. It's exactly his place as manager. No one was this defensive when LVG was manager. Why care now? It's not even about LVG but Januzaj and all you've picked out is that one line. Which proves my point. No one else is talking about it.

Him getting away with small jabs eventually led to him doing more and more stupid things at Chelsea leading to the eventual meltdown. Same at Madrid.

Obviously we have a disagreement here on what he should or should not say as manager. Regardless of that, he is the only top club manager in the EPL who sees fit in criticizing his predecessors despite LVG actually winning a trophy. Conte or Pep never did it despite their own respective predecessors deserving the harshest of criticisms.

Not being defensive at all mate, if you look back, I was not even the one who first brought up the fact that he was taking a dig at LVG with that statement. Also whether its one or two lines hardly makes a difference. Even him calling Wenger a 'specialist in failure' was one line.

Anyways I am loath to go on and on about this admittedly small issue. My stand is clear. Take jabs at rival managers all you want. Its part of the spectacle. Never understood why Jose has to take jabs at predecessors who did a lot for a club before leaving. Yes they had their bad points but plenty of good ones as well. This is something I have been criticizing since his Chelsea days.

Its almost like he's acknowledged and criticised in measure. We've never had a manager do that before....

If LVG had done a lot he would still be here. He also failed a lot.

thing that annoys me is that it was a cup ban so surely he would only have been banned for a cup game in Italy yet or become a league ban when he moves. If he had to miss the first cup game I wouldn't mind but a league game is annoying

That is whats annoying me. If it was a European competition ban (Champions/Europa) and he joins a team in that same competition then the ban should carry over, because his ban is specific to taking part in that competition.

Wasnt his ban in the Copa Italia for 2 yellow cards? WTF is 2 yellow cards? Here its 5 for a ban. The way it is worded, its like they have different rules for the copa italia regarding bookings. Are yellows counted only in that competition and 2 yellows mean a ban? And league bookings are seperate aswell?

How he can be banned here for 2 yellow cards, when our rules is 5, its ridiculous, and its a ban for that specific competition.

because AFAIK Italian disciplinary is competition specific so 2 yellow cards make sense, whereas English disciplinary system works collectively over all competitions. The ban transfers over from the Italian FA to ours so is applied accordingly

So the ban is specific to the cup competition, not the league, so why is he missing a league game here? It hasnt been transfered accordingly. Pogba wouldnt have missed Juve's next league game. He would have missed their next Copa game, but here he's banned for a league match. As it turns out, he would have most likely been on the bench anyway, so he's only missing 30 minutes of football, but its still bollocks.

well no its not really like I say its because of how our disciplinary system works, our bans go across all competitions, so the fact he is banned for the Coppa is irrelevant because all that matters in system is that he has a ban.

tbf it actually works out better for you when you think about it, miss a 30 minute runout or a cup game, I mean lets say the ban was for the third round of thee FA cup instead and you had Arsenal/Chelsea/Citeh/Pool. Then you would all be ****** because he would be banned for that

Yeh thats what I said. Missing half an hour against Bournemouth isnt bad in the scheme of things but still annoying. Just annoying. Bans from other leagues shouldnt carry over to another country. Only specific competition bans should carry over like Champions/Europa league. Or bans for bad violent conduct that includes a ban for all football activity (Suarez for example).

Let's be honest who cares about the ban I doubt he would have featured anyway. Mourinho already knew the ban was in place, I'm sure he's not sat in his office with his knickers in a twist slagging off the Italian FA and so on. We should have enough to beat Bournmouth surely! If not even without Pogba it's a bad place to be.
