The Manchester United Thread

When he and his agent were begging to come to ours before Rafa he must just of been desperate I guess. ;).

But then lil' Luis Garcia made sure he'd hate us with a passion forever. :D.

You have to admit though, all the flirting with Manchester United over the years, calling them a super big club when only referring to his at the time team Chelsea as a big one, and other little things like publicly saying his side were basically inferior and didn't deserve to win when he was managing REAL MADRID of all clubs against us (which didn't go down well back in Spain) it's all just too coincidental from a man who has a reputation for.... eh.... being very limited with kind words shall we say? I reckon he always had an eye on Fergie's throne.

He's loyal to whomever employs him. Utd currently suit his ego down the ground to be the 'special' (sic) one to turn it around.

Don't think he particularly has a club per se. At one time from his own mouth he'd never manage anyone else in England not called Chelsea.

Doesn't really matter whether it is his dream job or not, gestures like that to the fans will only help him stay connected. I just hope we back this win up tonight with 3 points on Saturday as teams above will drop points sooner rather than later in this league.

Wonder if Pep made a clanger tonight retrospectively going with a somewhat weaker team tonight compared to United. Imagine what a defeat would of done for our confidence after that Chelsea game. Instead with the victory he has allowed us to regain confidence before playing again in the Premier League and furthermore it keeps his winless run going.

He sure made himself look a massive **** by saying before the game he was treating this like a Cup final and then putting out a team like that with such an insipid performance.

Yeh he is coming under more scrutiny now and rightly so. I mean he said before Southampton game that they must win... then they didn't. Don't think some of his comments are helping his team before the game if I'm honest.

But ****, who are we to criticise, it is Lord Guardiola after all, they are pretty much top of PL still despite this run.

It's so hard to hate Guardiola though, the man oozes in class and respect.

Mourinho has always had a thing for united. He's hardly ever spoken ill of us while he managed other clubs and had praised us a lot. He deemed liverpool a big club and called us a "super big club" Called his real Madrid team 2nd best when they Ko'd us from the UCL back in 2013. I've always had that hunch that he would be united manager one day.

Using family terms, Chelsea is mourinho's wife while United is mourinho's father.

Still don't buy that but you're more than welcome to him my friend.

I hope he stays at Utd a LONG time. If you'd of gotten Klopp, or Guardiola as you should of, we'd of been worried. Jose, not so much.

But he usually implodes and completely destroys a club way sooner than that so it works well either way. :D.

After that really tough set of fixtures fairly happy with that. Draw away against a rampant top form Pool side. Spanked Fenerbache to go joint top of EL group. Chelsea was a disaster from everyone. And beat our local noisy neighbors to progress to the quarterfinals, and still in the hunt for the cup. Hardly a disaster as things go so far this season with being six points off top of the league, with some favourable games coming. Must win these though! (6)

Well I think the next two games are crucial, simply have to win both to have a chance.

It's in effect 7 points with the goal difference/ goals scored.

3 games is a massive gap. Even at this early stage. You're not only banking on going on a winning run yourselves, you're banking on the teams you're chasing dropping three games themselves. And you've already played three of those sides so that's three less head-to-heads you'll have to take direct points off them. (Did we have the discussion about the games between the top teams being vital? Smiles.).

Been in that position many times the PL era with 2 or 3 loses early but still within touching distance points wise. Often looking up at Utd. You kid yourselves it's only 6/7/8/9 points or whatever and look at the fixtures and think 'we can make it up here or there.' But 9 times out of 10 you're done for any hope of the title when you've lost so much so early.

WAY harder to be the team playing catch-uo.

But realistically 6 points behind and 29 games left, it's a tad early to be truly worried about catching up. Especially when any team can take points off any team in this league. But yeh it is better to be looking down rather than up.

That is an example of how you try kid yourselves.

It's a massive gap early however you cut it. Never forget Gerrard the other year looking back on one season we lost 2 out of the first 4/5 games. Psychologically they knew that was as good as it for the league trailing Utd. After a handful pf games into the season! They lost again a few games later and they knew for sure. You don't give up of course and say the right things publicly. But inside the club players know. Major teams above you just don't drop many points and go on runs where the games to close the gap disappear quick. And can you really see this current Utd side reeling off a run of 5 or 6 straight wins to take advantage if they did start dropping?

Had countless seasons like that the PL era so I sadly know from experience.

Angel Gomes with another great performance today against Romania in a 3-0 win captaining the U17s. Grabbed another assist, and won the penalty for the 3rd goal.
