The Manchester United Thread

You could prob find a fair few, but at Chelsea were mostly an efficiently ruthless defensive machine for most of his time it wasn't needed. They were rarely chasing a game.

He's prob done it though, a defender for an attacking winger. Ivanovic for Willian prob the most frequent at a guess.

Why does everything have to be about Liverpool?

Its their year.

Can anyone remember Jose taking off a defender and putting on a STR to win a game at Chelsea? Because I can't and non of my Chelsea mates can, they were shocked yesterday at him doing that as was i. Was fully expecting him to **** up shop after the equaliser. At one stage for 10 mins we were literally playing Bailly and Rojo at the back and that was it. Unbelievable and still buzzing! Bring in WHU and then Reading in the cup(6)

He did that at Chelsea. More often than not when we were chasing a game he'd take of a FB (usually Dave) for a ST and switch to three at the back. But it never seemed like we had worked on it in training, it was more like... "Oh s**t! We're losing! F**k it! Chuck another ST on and lump it in there!".

They play us in 2 weeks.

Thats what he always reverts to.

Which just shows he is an ultimate pragmatist. Ultimately you could not beat his team when they were not well gelled yet despite he fact that you beat all the other big teams.

Yeah, I also remember defender going off and Chelsea switching to 3 at the back when chasing the game. Probably not that unusual really, it's just that big teams aren't trailing behind that often, so when you see the switch you're like , I've never seen this before.

Like every year ;)

Lets keep the snobbery from Anfield in the Liverpool thread.

He usually pulled off the right winger for a defender, usually because it was the right wing that covered monster yards. That said, he was rarely behind, and when he did go behind, he would usually not throw on a forward, but another wide attacker, to create more space

Halfway through Mous first season and things looking good now. Teams starting to click we have consistency in selection and can see Mourinho team taking shape. Not sure if we will do any business in Jan with regards to players in. But over the next 2 windows can see Smalling, Schweinstiger, Schniederlin, Fellaini, Romero, Memphis, Young all leaving. Then possibly Riley, Januzaj, Wilson, Willock, Harrop, Goss, Tuanzebe, CBJ, TFM also leaving on loan or sold also. The question is what's the next step in Mourinho evolution of this squad? Think we will need CM and attacker for sure after that it depends who goes out on loan. He could decide to keep the likes TFM, Tuanzebe, Januzaj etc around. Will be interesting that's for sure. The good thing about Mourinho targets so far is that we seemed to being linked with not the usual suspects bar Griezmann.

Just looking at the next round of fixtures. Some very tough games ours included! If we can manage to get three points at WHU I can see Spurs and maybe Arsenal dropping points. Possibly Pool but they should beat Sunderland imo.

Defo be making some changes against WHU!

DDG
Valencia-Jones-Rojo-Darmian
Carrick
Herrera-Pogba
Mkytarian-Zlatan-Martial

WHU have injuries and players missing for the AFCON which will help

Then against Reading

Romero
TFM-Jones-Blind-Shaw
Schweinstiger
Fellaini-Pogba
Mata-Rooney-Rashford

Give some of the key players a big test before the Pool game coming up.

League table looks in good shape at the halfway point, United quietly getting back on track, second half of the season is going to be very interesting.

Thought it was interesting post Arsenal game point from Carragher, in his thoughts on the top 4 hunt, he suggested United will get top 4 and Manchester City the likeliest to miss out (madness how things change, many had them down as a shoe in in the opening months) - he backed his statement up by saying their back 4 is very poor compared to the other teams in the fight. Can we disagree with him? I'm not sure if I can.

Thoughts? If we get top 4, will it be City to miss out?

I personally think Pep will get it right, like Mourinho, and even though both managers need time and a couple more windows to sand off the rough edges and engrave what they're about, I think Mourinho had much the better first window and will be a lot more content with his current options than Pep is with is (mainly at the back), demonstrated with Mourinho's comfort and trust in rotating Jones/Rojo/Bailly/Smalling in centre half in recent games (expect to see one of Jones/Rojo returned tomorrow). I wouldn't be surprised to see Pep go for practically a new back line bar Stones over the next 8 months.

That should have happened 2-3 years ago. 5 of the liverpool team were bought by Mancini. Txixi is getting worse and worse.
