Few stories going round from Di Marzio and Ramano that Verratti is looking to leave at the end of the season. If true we should be all over that! Great CM one of the best. Him sitting behind Pogba and Herrera

Verratti? Great player, but not in that combination. I get it that DM is dead, but you need at least one guy who's tactically disciplined. There's a reason why Mourinho keeps giving chances to Fellaini, and that's because Fellaini does what he's told.

Verratti can be tactically disciples as is Herrera who could sit deep and Verratti could take Herrera place. Good trio if you ask me.

The traditional DM still has his place in certain terms/ systems. Just it shouldn't even be a discussion at a lot of clubs with the more progressive managers. Not least my own.

BTW, Grabara has progressed ridiculously well this year. Switching between the 18's and 23's, there's only an early 23's game at Chelsea where he completely misjudged a high ball that he's made any sort of mistake in this year. Which is a ridiculously high percentage for a 17 year old 'keeper. With him, Shamal George back playing again after his injury, and a young Irish lad we have Kelleher, you wouldn't be bothered having any of them step up the bench next year if say Danny Ward decided he wanted regular footie elsewhere and one of the main two departed.

If he was to get bumped by Poland to the U-21's for the tournament this summer you're hosting he wouldn't be phased being younger.

You've another real good looking goalkeeper developing there.

While I like Verratti, I honestly feel we need a like for like replacement of Carrick in the next window, I think Carrick could carry on for another 2 years purely because he has one of the smartest football brains I have seen and his economy of movement is world class.

For me, he has been the most underrated player in our team for years and a man for man replacement for him should be our number 1 priority.

I don't see the need for a like for like tbh. It all depends on how we set up and how Jose wants us to play. Carrick wasn't a like for like when he took Keans shirt.

Weve also got a good young Polish keeper in our u18s. Been fantastic when Sebatoui has been promoted to the u23s or injured. Foijkeft I think that's how you spell it. Only signed him start of this season and capt at u18 level already despite being 16-17.

Yeah read about a cash player deal lol. I actually wouldn't mind it. He was very good last season, has worked with Mou before. And we could then get rid of Fellaini and have Diarra as a good squad player who Mou would trust.

If we are replacing Carrick, Verratti is at the top of the list for me, ahead of Weigl. That's assuming he's available

As for DMs the only reason Klopp doesn't use one is that he hasn't got one he rates high enough at Liverpool, because he used a very traditional one in Bender and Kehl. Like Mourinho, he's simply adapted to it, and found a different path.

Verratti is very tactically disciplined, he just happens to be an angry hothead occasionally too

It's not about being progressive, it's about whatever fits.

Kev Stewart who he'll readily rave about and gave a 5 year deal to. Lucas Leiva. Emre Can was playing there last year. Take your pick, He has a traditional DM if he wants one.

But he's evolved with his L'pool side from his Dortmund side. We've created a non-traditional/ traditional role for Henderson if that makes sense that fits perfectly with how we play with the team covering all roles. Naturally you adapt to what fits the personnel what you have at your disposal. That's a given in good coaching. But the options are there to play a bog standard DM.

But maybe you're right and managers like Pep and Jürgen, and Jose to a similar degree dropping Herrera deeper, are just being pragmatic.

It'd make things much less nervy both when he's on the ball and positionally when he isn't. Although that side is improving within the team the more he grows into his more advanced role this year.

Frustrating best sums up Can. There's just no consistency. When he's on it, he's very good to excellent. When he's not, he's horribly bad. With no in between. And this goes through games. Not just game-to-game. You look at his stats from the Sunderland game and you'd think he had a real good game. High percentage of passes. Same with his tackles won. But that skews the fact his passing was awful most all game and he was bailed out a good few times by quick teammates recovering balls played behind them. He just isn't as quick in thought as the other players. Which has shown even more this year with his new, more advanced attacking role from the middle. When he see's things, it's too late and his passing is invariably too slow. Yet other times he'll look Molby sublime spraying it around and McMananman like surging through. (Although with his bulk It looks more Titi Camara-esq lol.). No consistency. Hopefully that comes the more experience he gets. He's physical rather than relying on his positional nounce and anticipation to win challenges like a Carrick which stands him in good stead for that side of this league and it is worth remembering he's moved from a more traditional DM role more often than not last year (and a host of other positions under Rodgers as a fill in from RB through centre half to out the wing); so he's having to re-adapt to the intricacies of that role alongside Wijnaldum or Lallana further forward.

But Klopp selling him at 22 ..... That's not even worth debating with your friend. He's a developing work in progress and a big part of the first team squad going forward. He has the tools and his versatility is very useful depth to have. Just needs to tie it all together on a consistent basis.

I won't speak as to the best overall summer signing the league as thats too subjective. But Wijnaldum's certainly up there as arguably our best. He's made just as big an impact as Mané and has quietly established himself as one of the most vital cogs in the XI. I've recently been gushing about him the L'pool thread so I won't rehash: #30718
