The Manchester United Thread

on the verge of defeat but weve defended brilliantly.rojo been magnificent

Unlucky United. Great effort. Massive chance from Rashford (who was really good tonight), he did terrifically to carve out it out for himself but top save from Courtois. Sending off completely spoilt what had the look of being a real classic battle of tactical masters. Pretty happy that we restricted them to mainly long range shots (which proved the difference in the end). Rojo completely made Costa his *****. Our midfield was overpowering theirs prior to the sending off. But that's football. Keep that effort and intensity going throughout the remainder of the season and make it a cracking finish.

It's just one of them seasons where literally everything is going for Chelsea, so I expected to go out tonight but we certainly done ourselves proud with only losing by 1 with 10 men. Disappointed to go out but I want CL more than FA Cup, so we'll see at end of season.

1. First yellow card was very soft but thereafter Ander was very stupid.
2. Pogba disappeared at their goal and in the 2nd division.
3. Mourinho pretty much gave up in the 2nd half. He waited till the 80th minute to make a like for like substitution. You are losing in the cup ffs be a bit adventurous! Should ve taken off one of the cbs last 15 minutes put another attacking player. Till the last 5 minutes with 5 at the back there was no outlet for counterattacks.
4. Said it before ill say it again. Young should not be at UTD let alone start important matches. He was so ineffective.
5. Tactics were spot on to start with. With 11 players they wouldnt ve scored if we d played till tomorrow.

****** off!

On the game in general i think Utd played well, first 20 odd minutes they were on the attack yet did struggle to create any chances they were in control. However Chelsea had a 5-10 minute spell in which i think we created far more forcing De Gea into 2 exceptional saves. Now to the red card, it was obvious Utd's game plan was to take turns in clattering Hazard he must have suffered 10 fouls before Herrera's red! The second yellow is soft but it came at an absolute stupid time, brain dead from Herrera in my opinion there was no way he was going to catch Hazard. Yes after the red card we absolutely dominated the game i swear there was a 15 minute spell when Utd didn't even get the ball in our half however defensively i felt Utd were very impressive. 100% the best team won on the night but Utd made it tough.

^ It's all hypothetical now, we'll never know. United were bang in the game before the red card and in my opinion, edged it. I think it would've been a cracking second half, but it is what it is. Good luck in the competition. Onto Thursday for us.

Didn't see the game. But from what I've read on hear and on a few other Chelsea and Utd forums it was pretty close. And would have been a great game except from the red. Sounds like Mourinho got it spot on tactically. It's a Shame but it doesn't sound like we were destroyed or played off the park in the defeat. And from what I have read if we play like that it will be a good end to the season. Don't know why I've read so many people slagging off Mourinho for taking off Mky. FFS he's just come back from a hamstring injury, why risk him running round like a mad man and risk him a reacurence. Some people will always find things to moan about. I also read Pogba getting some abuse for the goal but not Rashford for missing a very good one on one. Suppose Zlatans not playing so someone else is gonna get bashed.

Not sure how Mourinho got it spot on tactically when his entire game plan to stop Hazard seem to revolve around trying to kick him off the pitch. Does not take a tactical genius to do that plus it was doomed to fail with a high chance, United will be reduced to 10 men which is exactly what happened. For reference, look at Pepe and nearly every El Clasico game managed by Mourinho.

First yellow was super harsh after just watching the highlights. The second was just super stupid. DDG and Rojo played well by the looks of it. And Pogba needs to be challenging Kante there! And Rashford should be burying that one on one.

It was much more than just watch Hazard. Your build up play is revolved around two of the three centre halves pushing up and offering options, we continuously pressed and cut passing lanes with our front 3 with Valencia, Pogba and Herrera selectively enhancing that. We overran your midfield, got tight to every man, Rojo was glued to Costa, and likewise Jones to Hazard, if they went to the toilet, our lads went would've been outside the cubicle waiting on them.

Hmm, thing is if you slow the replay down a little you can see he is clearly running, sees Hazard, checks his run and smashes into him. That's textbook obstruction and why the rule exists in the first place. I've noticed Herrera is really good at those sorts of things and the niggling little fouls, and gets away with lots of them. Reminds me a lot of Vidal in that respect.

2nd yellow was massively soft though, and seemed to just be because of the persistent fouling on Hazard and the ref getting ****** off with it. Next player to touch him was clearly getting a yellow and Herrera just happened to be the lucky foul

I don't think there's any arguments with the red tbf. Herrera is a wolf in sheep's clothing, a baby faced warrior, who is very intelligent in little things like that, but sometimes, like today, it doesn't go unnoticed.

You did a great job of disrupting and suppressing every line of passing and pretty much keeping us down in every position, but you weren't handling Hazard all that well, hence the constant stream of fouls. I think Mou did a great job because too many teams just manhandle Hazard and let everyone else run free, but the niggling, Classico style fouls are not the way to deal with him either. Keeping him wide and isolated would have worked a lot better.

Congrats to chelsea. They got a well-deserved win. I loved our tactical setup (bar the constant hazard fouls). It would've been intriguing to see how it would've played out if we finished with 11 men (or at least had 11v11 till very late in the game).

I think the Chelsea diving was a bit embarrassing and no one has talked about. Then again Hazad and Costa are specialists at it is no big surprise.

Lets see how the extra special one aka Conte does next season when he has a far tougher schedule to contend with.
