The Manchester United Thread

Right now it seems like the team will do as well as zlatan does, if he has a good day the team wins, if he has a poor game points are dropped. A team can't be so reliant on one person showing up if they want a decent chance of winning

One of the biggest misses today was Herrera for me. Not just his quality on the ball but the tempo he plays at. Never takes to many touches, presses high up the pitch and is always available in the final 3rd when we are on top in games.

Now that I've calmed down a little, I think in hindsight, those off the ball incidents just screwed the game up. Surman being sent off screwed it up for us, as it forced them 100% into parking the bus whereas prior to that, they seemed to be in limbo, not sure what to do and we were tearing them apart. That doesn't excuse our lack of quality in the second half, but it did **** up the game.

Yeah also noticed in the second half the intensity change in our players. Pulling out of 50/50 and what not.

Zlatan will be a big miss but Mourinho confirmed Mky will be back. Big positive today, well 2 actually. We created still a lot of chances. And Luke Shaw. He got high praise off Mourinho on one MUTV interview and from some other pundits. He was very good today. Never backed out of any challenges and some crunching ones to. His passing was solid as what ever defending he had to to also. And as the game went on grew into the attacking side of the game. Long may his starts continue now. Needs to build up momentum for the crucial end of season push. And more importantly next season.

Defensively he was good but i feel like he's lost that electric pace he once had.

well as **** as the game was if you want something to cheer you up go watch arsenal fan tv happy days blood

well the way the spurs game is going looks like we will have to win the europa cup if we want cl cos i cant see us geting top 4

As inconsistent as we've been this season, drawing way too many games that should've been routes, win our game in hand and we're level points with Pool and and still 1 behind Arsenal. Take it game by game. They have some hard fixtures coming up, and we have some favourable ones (on paper...), so not at that stage to favour either competition yet. Keep going gung ho in both

Griezmann scored again today. Taking his tally for this season to 20. That's 20+ gls he's scored in 4 consecutive seasons. That's amazing considering he plays LW/RW/AMC.

Make that 21. Has to be one of the most clinical non STRs around! Get it done Ed :)

Is banter not allowed on here anymore? All I can see is Scouse making a joke about us getting out of 6th then getting threatened with a ban. Whats all that about?

EDIT: Acutally he has been banned. Wow. Unless posts have been deleted so im completely missing the point, SERIOUSLY???

It's 3 years of stuff over time, hughesman. He could have gone years ago, but I've let him off time and again. He didnt listen.

Not sure why Scouse started posting like he did for last 6 weeks, but if he can start posting more like his old self and less like Tezzz 2.0 it would be good to have him back, Ball entirely in his court.

that's Mikes explanation from the pool thread, but tbf to Mike I mean its not like he has to explain it. I mean its a forum sure but we all adhere to the rules set out by Sean and Mike enforces those rules as he see's fit. It just so happens that base is one of the more civil forums and mods don't go all little hitler like they do elsewhere. God if this was Paradox forums we would all be banned for questioning moderator actions haha that's how bad it is over there.

Hopefully it can be worked out because Scouse can be a great poster say like 90 percent of the time

I was wondering if Zlatan moving on in the summer would be the best thing for United. I know he has scored 25 goals this season but his form for long periods has been questionable. Watching you guys play you create so many chances yet can't score for toffee and how much of that is down to Zlatan. According to big chances missed this season Zlatan leads the table with 17 more than double the chances missed compared with Lukaku, Aguero, Firmino all on 8 big chances missed. The whole system seems to be catered to playing to Zlatan strengths and when he doesn't turn up it falters. He doesnt run the channels, he doesn't press and his touch and finishing at times are questionable. On the flip side where would you be without his goals, I think you're next top scorer is Mata with 5 or 6 and the rest of your forward line don't even have 5 league goal. Zlatan is a goal scorer but I feel the lone forward has evolved more than just putting the ball in the onion bag.

Yeh ive never had a problem with scouse. Actually one of the few scousers who isnt deluded lol and actually says it how it is. Ok so he has a bit of banter sometimes. Ive never seen it be over the mark once personally. All in good fun. I dont know what he says in other threads because I dont go in them but ive seen nothing to warrant a ban in this one personally. Maybe it is jusified. I really dont know. But purelyp from what he posts in this thread I can see anything wrong.

Zlatan comes with pros and cons, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

I get what you're saying, he's missed some big chances this season, particularly in those frustrating little draws against Stoke, Burnley, etc etc. But it's hard to be annoyed with him when he continuously makes up for it and more in the majority of games.

I was watching the Man City game earlier today, and I do agree with the lads on here; our other 3 of the front 4 simply NEED to chip in more, big time. Sane and Sterling take pressure off Aguero because you always feel one of them will score, but with us, if Zlatan is having a frustrating day, 9 times out of 10 we as a whole do too. It's not a case of Zlatan not scoring every single match, or running the channels or doing anything differently, he just needs a bit of the burden lifted off him from those around him. He leads our line fantastically as a physical target man with exquisite technical ability; his little touches and interplay suits us to a tee when we're on song with Mkhitaryan, Mata and Martial nearby, the trouble is I feel when Mkhitaryan is out of the equation, as we've had to deal with lately, there's nobody like him in our squad. Similarly to Mane and Liverpool. So I definitely would welcome an extra quality addition in attack, Griez would be a dream.

But the answer to your question, I don't think Ibra is an issue, if anything I'd love to continue to build around him, pity we've got him at this stage of his career.

tbf I mean Zlatan is never going to be the type of guy to work the channels but I think that's why United have so much speed on the flanks, Rahford, Martial and Mkhitaryan (spelling?) are probably where you are looking to work the channels and push the ful backs back, and if those three where more in form I reckon United would have far more points But Rashford hasn't been as good as last year, Martial has been patchy and Mkhitaryan has had his problems settling in the beginning.

You don't have those 3 in patchy form its a totally different animal, but its the way its gone. Mike has said it time and again and you also mention it not enough goals from the rest of the team. Can see why they want to be in for Greizmann would give the team a totally different dynamic

Wish we had pep or poch man, instead we have the 2nd best portuguese manager in the league. Sane, jesus and sterling all flourishing under pep, kane, alli flourishing under poch. Pep and poch's ability to coach attacking is simply amazing, allowing their wingers/attackers to have tons of 1v1 chances. Instead, jose's pragmatic and defensive coaching creates situations like this for martial 99.9% of the time:
View attachment 102208

How is an attacker allowed to flourish in a system like this? Don't talk about mkhi at all, under any other attacking manager he'd have double the goals and assists. Look at hazard's comments on the difference between conte and mourinho:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUtWA4JasSc
Even he says that attacking is 99% coaching under conte, while mourinho relied on individual brilliance. How pathetic is that? How about you coach instead?

On to Zlatan, I like him, but how bad is he at finishing? I don't care if he scored 20+ goals this season. A prime rvp, costa, benzema, dybala, even cavani or kane would have more than 30 goals and challenge for the title with the chances he has had. He has a 9% conversion, the lowest in europe's top 5 leagues for any striker. He has scored 1 goal of 12 shots in the 6 yard box. Do you guys realize how poor that is, ffs 1 goal in 12 shots in the 6 yard box. All this is on whoscored, squawka or any other stats matrix if you're wondering.
