The Manchester United Thread

I weep for our loss.
Ronaldo is some man, for one man.

Paying 80 million for griezmann would be the dumbest move we could ever make.

I don't doubt you'll be better next season however Jose spent a lot of money in the summer already to improve the team yet i don't see much improvement on the whole from last season.

Irrelevant in my eyes because the fact is you didn't take them chances, i could say if Chelsea didn't score more goals than opponents we wouldn't be top makes no sense. They are missing them chances for a reason, he signed the best playmaker in Europe last season and although i think he's been decent (i literally cannot spell he's name but the Armenian lad) there is no way Jose has got the best out of him. Not just a dig at Jose for this one but Juan Mata, when with Chelsea he racked up 27 assists in 2 and a half seasons yet with Utd just 16. Get the best out of Mata and you get create opportunities simple as that. I'm not just blaming Jose for this i think they club have made terrible decisions too.

Utd were not the only club to play such a volume of games in such a short time and he's not managing Fleetwood he's managing one of the biggest clubs in the world. He now that i can look from the outside is a monumental hypocrite. He's constantly bashed Chelsea for not playing mid-week games yet complained when he's had too and even at times stated "i'd rather be playing mid-week". Yes i have an issue with him haha.

You've had injuries etc but Jose let 3 players go in January with zero replacements, if he wasn't happy with that then its a massive failure on the boards part no?

If there ever was a back handed compliment there it is!!! We went on a 13 game winning run, absolutely nothing favourable about that. Conte took over a squad that was at its lowest point for 15 years, a squad that needing multiple changes, a squad that needed to faze out its most successful player and captain. Nothing about Chelsea being top is "favourable", we've earned it and some.

Bang on mate, look i have no doubt Chelsea will have to strengthen and juggle things around but i have no worries about next season................ Unless the board mess up and Conte gets sacked!

Er.... Mata has more goals for United than he did for Chelsea. And he did it in fewer games.

You also realise assists is not how you judge creativity, it's chances created. Mata is pretty fundamental to how we play. Creating goal chances isn't the issue. Finishing them off is. And it's not like we are creating poor chances either.

They are missing those chances because the forwards haven't been good enough with their finishing. I mean, do you even watch us before criticising?

Bailly and Smalling training today :) and now with Jones the last couple of days and Mata and Pogba back things looking up!

Was told to back Birmingham £££! Along with Dunfermline, who were also rumoured to be facing a half hearted weakened team (both won) - I did back them, only to be let down by a 3rd team.. would've paid shy of £200 for my £20.
How dare you insult my beloved Morton so. Also from what I saw of the lineup they were pretty much full strength for the game, although they have been on an awful run of form since they got confirmed for the playoffs so the half hearted bit might be more accurate than I'd like. It could be even more accurate to just say they are quite bad at football right now

Was told they were on for sending host of lads to Spain before play-off, didn't happen then?

I am really interested seeing how their wingers are, Bongonda and Sisto have both some serious pace. More interested to see Bongonda.
TBH he's been pretty average the whole season Bongonda. Can't see him getting any change from Valencia. Think he's only got 3-4 goals and assists all season and none in the Europa that I can remember. Don't rate him at all. Sisto much better and dangerous. He's been the same in the league though. But better in the Europa. Nothing to be worried about.

Just watching the u18s. 2-0 down after 75 mins. Game of 2 halfs should of had 3-4 in the first 15 mins. They score from there first shot. But 2nd half they have dominated especially after losing Butkart to an injury. Injuries piling up at this level 6 players missing all together and key ones. Willock for them been best player. Dearnley, Burkart, Gribbin been our decent players. If we lose that's us out of the title race.

They should fit in well with the first team then, getting injured at key points is one of the key requirements to being a United player alongside wasting as many chances as possible. Only criticism is that they should have got a 1-1 draw out of it

Not heard anything about it and given what I know of the clubs finances sounds a bit unlikely but couldn't say for sure, the team they picked seemed to be close to first choice but I've not been to many games this season as I've been at uni

I watch as much as Utd as i can (they are on TV 1,716 times a week so i'm bound to catch them at least once lol) but even he's other numbers are down (goal the exception as you rightfully pointed out).

His average key passes at Chelsea:

11/12 - 3
12/13 - 2.8
13/14 - 2.3

With Utd:
13/14 - 1.9
14/15 - 1.5
15/16 - 1.4
16/17 - 1.9

Its good to see his goal stats up at Utd however i'd argue he's far far better creating, maybe its the way Utd play i'm not sure.

My main gripe however isn't actually at Mata its mainly Mourinho. For the first time i can look at him from the outside an unbiast view if you will and its embarrassing the stuff he continues to come out with and i see some of Utd's fans comments regarding him and the teams form etc and i remember me and other Chelsea fans saying the same things! The mans attacking players publicly in season 1, questioning players commitment despite them being injured and contradicting himself time and time again.

Ajax 1-0 up against Lyon atm. Pretty dire game! Ajax have an exciting set of young players and Lyon have some good players but some average ones also. And Lacaztte is a huge miss they look toothless without him.

Mourinho on injuries, "Smalling and Jones are back and Pogba."

Paul Hirst @hirstclass

Jose: "Bailly is ready to play, he is this kind of personality that he fights against every problem unless it’s impossible."

Paul Hirst @hirstclass

On Shaw: "It's an important injury obviously. We are waiting for 1 more opinion, but it doesn’t matter. He is out for the season."

End of the day manager needs to have results. If he can win Europa League, fans will wave off all the weird decisions and flag this year as a decent enough first season.

If he misses out on CL though, people are gonna start asking questions, because sooner or later the reality hits that "proven winner" and "best manager in the world" only actually managed to win one trophy of note in last 5 years, despite spending endless millions.

All up to him and the players at this point really, the opponents in EL are very favorable, and the squad is still quite strong despite all the injuries.
