The Manchester United Thread

I would take Bale over Ronaldo these days, nothing against Ronaldo but Bale would offer more to the team not only with his skills but also with his ability to bring other players into the game. He is more of a team player than Ronaldo ever was.

I'd take Bale over Ronaldo

But we'd take either lets be honest. You can't turn Ronaldo down, even now. He's a freak of nature, no telling when he's going to decline and even when he does, his ability and reading of the game he'll still be useful.

As well as anything he can teach Martial/Rashford.

Salty ******! :)

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger believes Europa League winners do not belong in the Champions League.
arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season and will instead play in the Europa League this term.

While rivals Manchester United, who finished below the Gunners in sixth, will be competing in Europe’s elite club competition after winning the Europa League.

But Wenger admits he’s never been a fan of clubs qualifying for the Champions League this way.

"I was always against it," Wenger told the Evening Standard.
Because apart from Man United, who did win the Europa League?

"All the years before it was always a team who was kicked out of the Champions League by having been kicked out of it before.

"You cannot go into the season and think that [you will get into the Champions League by winning the Europa League]. I always was not in favour of that.

“I think at some stage it can influence on the championship.
If a team is in April in a position where they have more chance to win the Europa League they can let some games go in the championship, and not completely focus on that, on the regularity of the competition.

"I will always play a team that has a good chance to win the next game. In the Europa League if we can afford sometimes to rest some players we will do it.

“But we have to adapt to the level of the competition and see first what kind of group we play in."

Arsenal will start their Europa League campaign in the middle of September, entering the competition at
the group stage.

Sounds more like sour grapes to me! The whole point was for teams to take EL a bit seriously. Maybe he is resigned to never win a European trophy. But I dont like it when he says we dont deserve it. We worked ****** hard to win the **** thing and not bottle it . Lets see what wonders you do this year Mr.Wenger!! Sure Mourinho will have something to say ;)

Lets see if he sticks to that and doesn't put out full strength team if he is in a position come April where qualifying via Europa League for CL is his best opportunity. He'd never do that, you play for what you can and what option you have open to you!

Silly comments imo.

Mr Wegner also needs to check his facts when Sevilla won in 2014 & 2015 they did not drop out of the Champions League to do so. In 2013-2014 they played in the 3rd Qualifying Round, whilst in 2014-15 (before the winners got automatic entry into the Champions League) they entered the group stages due to having won the previous season.

Dean Henderson kept a clean sheet on his League One debut as they beat Redmond's Northampton Town 1-0 yesterday. Made 3 fantastic save.

He's basically described the CL too. Teams have, and will, favour the European tournament if their title chase is out of reach. Chelsea 2012, Champions League? I agree with Zzezzy, I'd love to see Arsenal in the latter stages of the Europa League, sitting around 7th in the league, and see how quickly his perspective changes.

As for "I will always play a team that has a good chance to win the next game in the league" - I hope that wasn't a dig at United, as bar the Palace game on the last day, which was the most meaningless game you could've pitted us with (both teams nothing to play for), we constantly played strong teams in the league, not to mention the fact we even beat Palace with the kids ffs.

Interesting to see all the pundits on BT Sport say we have a real chance of winning the league this season, and done some of the best important key signings in Matic and Lukaku. Can't disagree with that tbh. All also saying we're a cert for top 4.

Matic's the key one for me, lukaku will prob give you the same numbers as Ibra by season end. Almost everyone else has bought where they were strong already or not addressed the depth of squad enough for my liking. Chelsea seem to have reduced there's weirdly (too many out)

Cant really argue with United/City went out to get, both got what was needed on the pitch.

He more seems to be annoyed that teams from the CL can drop into it and use it to get back into the CL than he does with United starting in it and going on to win it and get into the CL

Dont mind the winners getting a shot into the CL, but the CL teams dropping in, is a **** idea for money only and should GTFO. for me. never a fan

I think Lukaku will just edge Zlatan by the end of season. But offer more to our overall attack than Zlata. City and Utd should be the teams to beat.
