The Manchester United Thread

Done well, but too much defensive responsibility on him. Herrera and Pogba very poor. Fellaini has offered more than Herrera in 5 mins, which is saying a lot.

That's what he's bought for mate, to take that workload off Pogba.

Just wondering if tonight was a bad night for Herrera or proof as to why he has never been an elite player. Very disappointed. Not going to write him off though, this season will be a big test for him with bigger and better opposition in CL.

Is there really anything to say we are moving in the right direction after this? Not good enough in my mind.

We've played right into Madrids hands, sitting deep, no pressure. As good as they are I agree with Scouse, you want to at least engage them higher up the pitch and put more pressure on their defence.

They are a great team but their defence is as suspect as ever. We haven't put enough pressure on it so far. When we do it looks shakey.

really need to take into account the heat bro, real far more used to playing in these temperatures or similar anyway.check the average temps of madrid v manchester

Also, say what you like about Fellaini and his lack of football ability, aggressive manner or whichever of his many fault's you decide to go with, but he's a ******* game-changer.

You've just spent 3 weeks training in the mad Californian heat.

Fellaini been very good.

Think I'd rather lose this with a respectable 2-1 than do the whole extra time and penalty lark. Gonna knacker our players.

I know people like this trophy, but in the context of our season, it's not that important.

Judging him against Modric/Kroos is probably a tad unfair. He's never going to win a balon dor, he's never going to be in the same breath as the elite, but he's always going to give you 101%, he's always going to be that clever/cunning pest that will do anything that's required to get over the line, and is usually very tidy on the ball/good passer.

We have to remember this isn't your average CL opposition. This team are the best team in the world, with arguably the greatest squad in history, with players that will go down as individuals... not least their superb midfield.

What a miss :(

Our finishing certainly looks like last season! Which is a big concern considering how costly it was last season.

For me, we need that extra attacking player, who will at least give us a few more goals.

As I can't see such a bigger contribution from these guys. They are still not clinical enough.

This is why we need a winger, service from outwide just not good enough.

So, how does everyone feel, knowing that endless booting to Fellaini and Lukaku is going to be a thing this entire season?

About what I expected tbh. Wasted to many chances and was not clinical enough when we where in good breaking positions. Did see a fair few positives tonight. Madrid obviously ahead of us. No surprise there! Bring on West Ham.

It will only happen against teams better than us, luckily that won't be many this season. (Especially in the league).

Martial finishes that

I don't know. Outside of yourself, everyone continues to tell me Martial isn't a striker. ;).

Well ****, that takes Madrid clear of L'pool into second overall in SC wins. Not sure what to make of Zidane as a coach but you certainly can't knock his record. Don't know what we learned there. For 75 minutes or so that was a clinic from the best team in Europe until they relaxed up the last 15. Utd know this season is a massive step up from the Europa. Mourinho is Mourinho. Pretty much as expected.

Matic looked good on the plus side and Rashfords pace did at least give something of an outlet. And I guess Lukaku getting off the mark is a positive for him.

That's about that.

Yep don't expect it to be a regular thing this season. Will be playing against teams far inferior to us, and not playing against Madrid every week. Matic looks like a huge plus! Mky was lively again as was Rashford when he came on. Lindelöf looked better. Defo need Shaw back and Martial to start more on the left or sign a new winger for that side. Still confident going into the season! Pogba needs to keep it simple. And Lukaku scores in a big game.
