Can see exactly what Mourinho meant with the comments comparing our squad with Madrid's and their chemistry. They're currently on a different level.

We can hurt them with our pace & quality in the final 3rd, and Pogba taking it by the scruff of the neck, but Kroos+Modric on the ball with all the passing lanes available to them is just orgasmic

Jose saw it tonight too

I think the only thing that might catch up with Madrid this year is they're running a little light to rotate like he has been after letting 5 big names go. (At this point. Obviously, that could all change with 3 weeks the window to go.).

If they don't three-peat it'll be heck of a ****** good side that stops them. By far and away the best side in Europe and with Barca losing Neymar, La Liga has just opened up even more to them.

That said, I'd love to see L'pool or City in a knock-out shoot-out against this current side. Quite fancy our chances against anyone in Europe under the lights and they'd be no exception with the speed to hit them going the other way. Be one heck of a game for the purists.

Many have thought that over the years.

Then they come to Anfield. Under the lights. In Europe. Madrid's last loss to an English side came in a 4-0 walloping there. And that was a ****** good Madrid side too.

Put it this way. Whoever faces these Reds in Europe this year will be as worried about L'pool as L'pool are them.

*Edit* Big believer in omens playing a part at this level. Convinced Barcelona are psychologically beat before they play us as soon as the draws made. The Catalan press drag it up that they just can't beat L'pool for love nor money. Never scored against us the Nou Camp. And I think we're still the only English side to win there. Twice over. (Or have someone else done that the last 10 years or so? I lose track.). Seen Messi 4 times live now and he's barely had a kick. If I didn't know he was a serious contender for GOAT I'd think he was 'just another guy' off those games. Similar Madrid. Great record against them including being the last side to beat them in a European Cup/ CL final.

Like I say, I'd fancy our chances against anyone in Europe. We just go together. Which makes the last decade's almost constant absence from the big tourney all the more disgraceful.

hahahaha. That's a good joke.
Liverpool would be over-run by this Real Madrid team.

I shall be bookmarking this page and reminding you if we come up against Madrid this year and surprise them. Again.

Just because.

The very last thing you do is write L'pool off in Europe. Regardless of the opposition. That should be a simple rule of thumb for any seasoned watchers of European football.

LOL. Scouse, Klopp would need some **** Lube if liverpool were to draw Real madrid in the group stages or KO rounds cause it might get rough or ugly

BTW, I'm not straight out saying either City or Liverpool would beat this side before some fool jumps all over that and runs with it the wrong way. These are clearly better than any other side in Europe right now.

But I'd give both, healthy and at the top of their game, an even chance over two games. Straight two legged knock-out European footie that's a shoot-out. NOTHING better. And ANYTHING can happen. It'd be one heck of a tie that's for sure.

Is he one tie a-piece with them? Beat them the semis. Lost the quarters? Something like that. Again, against a **** good Madrid side just 3 or 4 years back.

I think he'd relish going at them again.

BTW, something that hasn't been mentioned, kudos for the support tonight.

Utd may not have turned up but the fans certainly did. Even taking away anyone out there, I know a lot travelled and that's a heck of a haul.

I'd put a lot of money on Real Madrid to knock out Liverpool if they meet in the group stage or the knockouts, although I would do so against pretty much every team I would feel confident in getting my money back with Madrid Liverpool

Modric-Isco-Kroos midfield is just stupid. All 3 of them are excellent at getting out of tight spaces and keeping their cool under pressure. On a good day they are unplayable, you can't take the ball away from them.

It's funny how it makes the most sense to take Isco out of the lineup to accommodate Bale in a 4-3-3, since taking out any of the other midfielders disrupts the balance the most. And yet when they can get him into the starting lineup, as they have done since midway through last season, Isco is consistently the best player on the pitch. Zidane's best achievement as manager in my opinion, giving Isco the chance to be star of the show - also doesn't hurt that the diamond gets Ronaldo closer to goal

Zizou has a serious task on his hand this season.I personally think we need the extra striker in Mbappe to back up Benz and Ron, but if not, then atleast we need to experiment with a Ron-Isco-Bale front three in case Benz goes down.Keeping both Bale and Isco happy is gonna be a hard job.

As far as Utd are concerned, we need our big club mentality back, also, we should not be playing Fellaini at all

I really couldn't give two figs what Liverpool could do tbh. Fearing a side and actually beating a side are two different things, and it's wholly irrelevant to tonight

Anyway, much better second half but things to work on. Matic looking to be key already

I know it's hypothetical now, but we should of really got Modric long before Madrid did. That barron spell where we didn't address the midfield under Fergie, we missed out on a lot of great players.

We tried tbf, shot down by Spurs at the time. Ferguson didn't want to fight with levy again
