..... But the results against top 6 aren't so important for a winning campaign, Liverpool had a great record last season against top 6 and still finished 4th.

And without it, they'd of finished outside the top 4.

If everyone does a similar job against the other 14 the league, your record against the direct 5 in competition invariably decides what positions those 6 finish.

Not interested in any hypothetical topics, all I'm interested in is that great result today, and Stoke next Saturday.

Zz, Jones gone up in your estimations yet?

But the majority of your games against lesser sides is where you collect the most points.

United dropped a lot against lesser teams last season, other rivals this season have dropped pts already against these types of sides. Liverpool dropping points to Watford, Chelsea dropping points to Burnley, Arsenal dropping points to Stoke.

Naturally. But you still need to do well in direct competition against the sides you're battling those top 6 places with.

You can't just dismiss that and say do well against the other 14.

The top 6 only matter if all of them keep form

Beat the rest of the league, and win your home games against the big sides, and you'll nearly always win the league. It's never come down to the top 6 clashes

Well early days, so can't get carried away, but impressed with what I've seen in Jones, if he can stay fit we have a great partnership developing with him and Bailly.

There are 84 points available from the 14 other sides. That alone is enough to win the title most seasons

He showed this with Rojo too last season. It's no coincidence. Yes he has a mistake in him down to being too keen at times, but he's a good centre half when fit.

And conversely, if Utd had, had any sort of decent record against their immediate competitors last year, there's every chance they'd of finished 4th and not 6th.

All relative. All games matter.

Now the dreaded international break... sigh.... Stoke away next... will be a real challenging game and I hope we don't pick up any injuries during international duties.

Wow, you know at half time, i had this feeling that we were going to draw this game based on last season. It had all the symptoms. Dominating the game, creating good chances...missing chances, then when lukaku missed the pen in the 2nd half, I jumped to the conclusion that it was last season all over again until that one corner...wow, what a relief! But another question came up...were we going to concede a late goal? And we scored (debatable offside decision). I believe the mentality has improved.

Was fearing it too, Legend Incredimaria. But these reds mean business. (God I'm sounding like Scouse now lol)

We dropped 24 points at home. That was the issue. I'm not sure why it's being argued otherwise tbh. The top 4 clashes simply haven't been that decisive in the last 20 years.

Meh. It's not half the place it was to go a few years back. Now they're somewhat established as a PL side, the crowd has become pretty quite like most any other PL home crowd, losing the intimidation factor. And Hughes is taking them more and more away from Pulis and having them playing actual football which makes things a whole bunch easier.

Like anyone else they deserve respect but it's certainly not an away trip to be feared like it was a few years back.

FFS forgot it was International break

Can't stand it, but this week should be a bit interesting, given the last week in transfer window and how spicy things seem to be for certain clubs and players needing out.

So missed the match due my girlfriend spending all my cash on a shopping trip :( A quick summary how we did please from anyone? Got a few pop ups on my phone from Ducker, Ogden, BBC, Sky. All said we pretty much dominated and look like a real 2005 Mou Chelsea team!?

Dominated. FB's and team shape in general pushed very high, knocked it around with supreme ease without steamrolling them at the same time. Very little space between the lines, Leicester very compact - but we pushed and pushed and found a way, unlike last season.

Martial very good, Pogba was the machine again who is just like a kid in the candy shop with Matic tucked in behind (who was quietly excellent once again today). Bailly handled Vardy superbly, Jones was fantastic too. All in all, a well deserved, hard earned 3 points in a type of game we would've drew 0-0 or 1-1 last season.

First half we dominated and created a lot, felt like it was gonna be one of them days if we didn't score.. 2nd half a bit better, but still the same. Then Rashford came on and scored 1-0 from a corner tap in, then Lingard and Fellaini came in, Rashford with a great through ball to a superb run by Lingard who cuts inside and shoots Fellaini on his thigh ( suspect offside ) and it goes in the net!

Super subs seems to be our thing this season! :D

Just seen that save from big Dave at the end for the clean sheet :) and don't think Mata was offside but need to see it again. Great assist by Lingard! Good for Rashford to get his first goal. Another 2 different scorers today. Read somewhere that Mky broke an assist record today?
