The Manchester United Thread

Sadly I'm turning your polite offer to leave down. Open board. We flit threads where the news/ conversation is. It's how this works.

Yourself included when you pop up over the Dark Side. Bwahahaha.

*Edit* Apart from the City thingie who's now banished to the corner to play with his heavy balls.

The Mitre ones before you ask! Geez!

These tin pot one player clubs, christ :D

Lol. We're stacked & covered in pretty much every area of the pitch, bar our best & most influential player on the team. Yes Herrera can play there, but let's be honest, he's not half the player of Pogba in that advanced/creative CM role... he'd perform better in Matic's role, or ideally, his best role would be in between Matic & Pogba in a 3... as he's not really a 6, nor an 8, he's a gritty, tidy little balancer, who will follow managers instructions better than most. I'd call him a 6.5, if you get me.

In Pep's system, you can drop KDB & Silva into CM and it'll still flow ever so smoothly, so theoretically, Mata & Mkhi could probably slip into central midfield in a Pep system and relish it based on what you lot are about - silky, moving positional play.. physical aspects aren't a big deal, but in a Jose system; much more direct and powerful, you need your CM's to be much more robust along with all of the creativity required in that advanced CM role. Mata & Mkhi wouldn't excel. This is why Pogba is the perfect player for us, and when he's out, we miss him more than people can imagine.

We need a profile that can effectively cover him. I feel if we had Pereira, a 3 man midfield of Matic-Herrera-Pereira would somewhat compensate his absence. Pereira would have that little creative edge to him (no pushover either mind, for the size of him), and Herrera would be the little wasp he is, mopping everything up. Between the pair of them, they could paper the cracks... mad how you need 2 players to cover one vacancy/role, but that's just how vital Pogba is to this team imo.

^^^^^ And that's the difference there to me.

Tottenham lose Kane, they lose the vast majority of their goals and attacking threat. Liverpool lose Mané. They lose the same.

You lose Pogba, who no doubt is becoming more influential on the way you play, you still have a plethora of attacking talent in there to compensate. Even if he is arguably badly utilising some of them at times. The options are still there. Even if it takes away from the overal team play, you can still compensate a heck of a lot better than losing not only the goals and assists output of the other two, but their overal difference-making presence.

Can't quantify the loss of the major source of goals in a side.

Anyway, this is purely subjective and you're still lucky F-ers you've not had to face either. And I still hope you draw tomorrow. :P.

If you can't even get the details of that right, what hope do you have?

*Edit* Not that it's anyone else's concern to start with. But if you're gonna' try being a smart ***, at least be an accurate one.

Spot on, Pogba is massive to our team and when he's out injured there is such a noticable difference, as you mentioned it's like watching two completely different teams almost.

Without Pogba our replacement isn't anywhere near as good, a big drop off in quality and something we have to address. I said this in the summer tbh, that's why I was really disappointed when we loaned out Pereira as I did foresee this happening. Not that Pereira is a direct replacement, but he gives us alternative creative options to utilise whether that be in a 3 man midfield or in a different position further up the pitch.

Yes there is an element of luck, when undoubtedly a sides best player right now is out injured. But like Mike mentions, Kane has never produced against United at Old Trafford.

Also it's kind of a one-sided way of looking at things because it doesn't take into account the players we are missing for these big games against Pool and Spurs: -

Pogba, Fellaini, Bailly. - Right now there is a legitimate argument that they are our 3 most important players. Bar De Gea obviously. No I'm not a fan of Fellaini, but no one can say he hasn't been one of our most effective players this season, Mourinho is a perfect match to utilise him.
