The Manchester United Thread

To be very honest, I don't think any of the above are viable apart from Moyes, it seems as though a majority of them are set (maybe not publicly, but the foundations will probably be set in place for the future) to be long-term managers at their club.

As much as they are tantalising, and would love either Mourinho or Guardiola, I think the most realistic option out of them all is Moyes.

Ferguson will choose his successor probably and i expect that to be moyes however united may be enticed by mourinhos record or Guardiolas football
Moyes is the safe option
too soon for giggs, he'll be assistant and then get job after

Moyes can't get it (yet). We need someone who has been there and done it, seen a title run-in through. Moyes, despite doing an incredible job at Everton, hasnt been there and done it. However, Id say Fergie has another 2-4 years in him so who's not to say Moyes cant get top4 and win an FA Cup or two in that time.. As well as managing better players who knows. I'd have hired him at Spurs tbh

villas-boas i think is a good appointment, people only remember him for his chelsea tenure but if you remember he did well at the start and he porto were brilliant under him. At chelsea he rushed his job of replacing the older players but at tottenham it will be similar to porto and i expect a good tottenham side but i wouldnt have sacked redknapp anyway

Too soon for giggs but you never no in 2-3 yrs fergie might deem him ready
Moyes is unproven at top level and managing big club and title run ins etc
No to mourinho has track record but never seems to stop at club long even tho i think he has found his club at madrid
Pep dont know i have always had feeling he would take over from fergie and make it long term project
AVB needs to prove himself again will be interesting to see how he gets on at spurs
Bielsa to old and think he will finish at bilbao

For me i would like pep or moyes in that order or ex united player

Anyone else kind of excited about the transfer rumours? Not excited about the players, but excited about the amount of money that is apparently in the kitty pool for Ferguson to spend.
RVP - £15-20million
Moura - around £30million
Baines - around £10million
That's £60million. A nice number to strengthen the team.

ole gunnar soljskjaer??????????????
Ole Gunnar seems like a good option, when he managed molde they won their first League but I expect Ole Gunnar to manage an English Club for a few years before he goes to Manchester United, though Ole Gunnar is more of a tactician than a player development type of manager. One replacement that comes to mind is Roy Keane but he isn't having a succesful management career. Pep Guardiola type management suits Manchester United as it is similar to Alex Ferguson's, which is to develop young players in the academy so he is a viable option

Ferguson said:
‘There is a borderline in terms of what you would think is a good signing for United,’ said Ferguson. ‘I see some values on players, like Hazard for instance. To me it was a lot of money. He’s a good player, but £34m?

‘It’s all about what you think is value for a player. I am not envious of those deals at all. We placed a value on Hazard which was well below what they were talking about. So if it doesn’t work, well we’re not worried about that. We think we’ve got good value in Kagawa.

Does that mean we didn't match the Chelsea bid, so we were never in contention?

He is talking value, not price.

He said "For 34M?" which sound like 34M is too much for Hazard, also he said "not just the transfer fees, [but] the salaries, agent’s fees — is just getting ridiculous now. In the Hazard deal, Chelsea paid the agent £6m. The Nasri situation was the same" which sounds like it was lost battle from the word go.

It looks like we were not ready to pay 34M for Hazard, maybe I'm wrong but that's what I felt reading this interview because if he is not worth 34M, why will SAF bid that much and criticize that Hazard is not worth that much.

SAF hates agents. if the 34m deal meant paying an agent 6m, he wouldn't do it. It's exactly like Nasri. Fee and wages are one thing, agents are another. He was pointing out how the whole thing is a lot of money.

rvp would be quality for man utd and he wants to join you
lucas is a quality player, maybe too similar to kagawa though
Baines, think man utd could do better - should have got alba

Yeah, that's what. He said Hazard was too much and all that. Just that Hazard had the option to choose between City, Chelsea and United might be wrong as SAF said it was too much money which we were not ready to pay (transfer fee, agent fee), so looks like it was all pr stunt.

Well we know Hazard spoke to United, as he and his agent couldnt keep that quiet. My guess is Chelsea offered far more than City or United were willing to pay. Fees aren't an issue, its always the wage. I'm guessing it was at the very top end of our limit, then the agent is wanting crazy money. SAF isnt having it. Far too elaborate for PR stunt, even by SAF standards. Considering it was nearly wrapped up before the CL final, Chelsea clearly blew both manchester sides away. And they are also the side that guarantees the most playing time.

Going by SAF words, the wages are high and clearly he never wanted to pay the agent fee (6Million). Agent fee is ridiculous, last year City paid the highest fee for agents and it was around 7 Million and here we have a player whose agent alone commands 6 Million. At this rate the agent fee for clubs will touch 15-20 Millions if the clubs signs 2-3 decent players.

Yeah, I think once Chelsea offered the contract, both Manchester clubs didn't want to meet those terms at all, so the decision making was easy.

Agent fees are crazy and FA should look at this! On other news fergie says bebe could have future at old trafford and was pleased with him in yesterdays match.

Am I the only person getting the feeling we were after him partly to make sure City didnt get him?

Wages were undoubtedly high (probably justifiably) but 6 million to an agent?! With him on that, thats nonsense. Right to pull out.

Agree pretty much the same with RVP imo just dont think fergie wants him at city, know way was hazard worth that much wages/fees.
