The Manchester United Thread

How is Martial coming deep and off the wing anything but a Martial problem. Matic problem is that his two partners are leaving him exposed all the time and his attacking players are standing there like statues. Tonight’s just proving how important Lukaku is to us.

He has to come deep because the buildup play is so slow that either we lose the ball before we get to him or lump it up the pitch. A slow set up like that forces him to come deep at the half way line to get the ball. Bar the last 20 mins where we went all out attack, he got the ball on the wing such few times. Matic is part of the buildup problem, do you not see him talking 10 touches before passing? That allows the opposition to recover, basically killing our counters and other attacks. Lukaku is important, no doubt, but would he have made a difference tonight? When the team is 1-0, 2-0 down, rarely does he come up with a goal to get us back in the game or score the equalizer. He likes to score the goal that makes it 3-0, 4-0, 2-0, rarely the decisive goal.

Anyway, this match shows us the same problems that were in the newcastle game, the west brom game, the Huddersfield game. Our set up is too slow and lethargic, this stems from the manager. The players he starts such as young, smalling, darmian, valencia are not good enough anymore or never were. I hope these matches have showed all utd fans that our defence is not actually good, we rely on De gea every match to save us. Good, defensive football is the likes of what atletico (not recently) and juventus are doing. That's what you call a good setup, not ours. It's a myth that we are good defensively, de gea is the one preventing us from conceding so many goals.

We need new full backs, 1 defender to pair with bailly and need to sell the deadwood. Deadwood including valencia (finished now), young, darmian, shaw, smalling, jones (maybe), fellaini and so many more. We will never progress if we give fellaini another contract and keep other bad players. Now, obviously Mourinho won't sell them all, but he cannot play them anymore next season if he wants to win the title. One more season is what I will give mou, but if he keeps making the same mistakes over and over again such as buying only 3 players, playing the deadwood and refusing to play more expansive football, he has to go. Defensive football is ok as long as it wins important trophies like the champions league and league titles, but not ok if all we are winning is the small trophies.

Matic takes so long because there is absolutely no movement in front of him from anyone especially the attacking players. We didn’t have any counters because Pogba kept giving the ball away and our attacking players were all like cardboard cut outs. Lukaku would have made a huge difference with his hold up play, runs in behind and ability to keep CBS occupied with runs or strength.

I agree we have a few players that are not good enough to be starters here but most the ones you mentioned are good enough squad players and especially against the newly promoted teams and relegation fodder. We defo do need new FBs in the summer. We actually don’t really need to sign more than 3/4 players. But they need to be quality and hopefully have the correct attitude to play for a club like Utd against any opponents.

In more brighter news -

Congratulations to both @jgarnerr96 and @EthanLaird1 who both played 90 minutes in the 2-1 victory over Isreal with Jimmy captaining the team. Laird gave away a peno but was very good otherwise making some great challenges. And Garner was just pure class and controlled the game.

OUT: Martial, Mata, Blind, Darmian, Jones, Rojo.

( Wish Smalling went as well, but I think Mou likes him. And we need a RB as well but think Young and Valencia will stay for next season.)

IN: LB, CB, CM, RW and a CF

Hoping for a big squad clear out this summer, probably won't be cause it's the World Cup. But as Memphis Depays tattoo says: #Dream #Believe #Achieve

Nonsense, wanting martial out after one game. He has the potential to become one of the best players in the world. Also, if you want martial out, why not rashford then? Rashford was much worse than martial today and he has been much worse throughout the season. Or Is it just because he is a local lad and deserves less criticism than martial? Very reactive thing to suggest martial out. In addition, there are many more players that we should be looking to get rid off than martial. Young, valencia, smalling, shaw and mou's favourite in fellaini. Also, can we really risk losing out on a high potential player in martial when mou's record with salah, kdb and lukaku has shown us that he is a poor judge of talent. His record with youth players shows that it will definitely come to bit us. Ridiculous to even suggest selling him.

No way should Jones, Mata, Rojo leave Rojo was good last night made some crucial blocks and is the only natural LF cb we have. Yeah no way atm would I let Martial go. He was **** last night and his inconsistentcy is frustrating as heck same for Pogba. They both need to get there **** together though!

Smalling, Blind, Darmian, Romero, Carrick, Fellani should all be gone imo and then most the u23s. 2x FBs 2x CMs and I will be happy this summer and loan players returning or a couple youth promoted.

Good luck to the u18s today in the North v South champions final. Ramanzani, Laird, Garner, Puigmal all missing for Utd due to the u17s Euros and Barlow is injured. Chelsea not weakened nowneat as much as only Redan is missing. Gonna be a tough match especially as Chelsea are bringing down a fair few players that have been u23 regulars this season.

Predicted line up

Fjoiticek
Tanner-Dunne-Oconner-Williams
Traore-Levitt
Chong-Gomes-Burkart
Greenwood

Subs- Kovar, Dishon, Baars, Mellor, McGee, Galbraith

was close with my line up Galbraith instead of Traore and Kovar instead of Fjoitcek

Lost 3-0. 2goals conceded from set pieces. Missed 3/4 really good chances. Everyone played well tbh especially Gomes after being injured most the season. We defo missed our players who are away. And Chelsea are more developed and older than our players.

Get well soon. Shredded a tear reading it.

Nobody comes back fighting like Sir Alex, just ask his opponents.

Prayers.

****! Been away traveling to my sisters. Just seen the news. Absolutely gutted SAF will come out fighting. Prayers with his all! :(

Be nice to see a couple youngsters in the last 2 games. Especially now top 4 is done and dusted for us and second pretty much the same. See Mourinho was watching the youth friendly yesterday against Birmingham.

It's weird because we have almost swapped places with Liverpool this season. We're losing to the ***** of the league, with each defeat feeling like deja vu, but have one of the very best records vs. the top 6. Think I read yesterday that Liverpool didn't win one away game vs. the top 6 this season, yet they're not coming as unstuck as they were last season vs. the lower sides.

Just hope we get rid of Jose. Can smell a bit of toxicity in the air already. Get him out before he does he pushes Martial & co. out.

Cant see Mourinho going not yet. And for some of his flaws still think he’s the right man for now for us. There might be a few issues with some players and tbh how some of them have performed rightly so. Don’t think it’s anywhere near as bad as the press are making out. But hey Utd in strife sells. Especially when we have Mourinho in charge.

That third season meltdown would appear to be starting early this time round.

Yeah, just talking about the flip in form against the other big 5 verses the rest of the league yesterday. L'pool have won two this year the top end. Arsenal and City at home. Compared to going unbeaten through those 10 games last season. Whilst Utd have flipped the other way. Mad turnaround.

You struggle to not see City being comfortable again next season. I mean they won't have the league season they've had this year. But they're still a LONG way ahead of everyone else before they go mad in the transfer market again. There's you lads in second which is a complete headscratcher when you watch Utd games and you looking the furthest thing from the second best-placed side going. Which is on the manager as the attacking quality is there. This could and should be a real exciting, attacking Utd side. Instead it bores the living **** out of you. And they've picked up less points the second half the season than the first if I'm not wrong? L'pool are needing 5 or 6 top quality additions alongside Keita to be able to rotate and not have a drop off outside the top XI which can compete better than anyone with City. But not their ridiculous depth. From October onwards we've picked up more points than anyone bar City. But still too many draws in there and players legs falling off having to play the vast majority as injuries and lack of quality depth catches up. Tottenham continue to be Tottenham. And Arsenal and Chelsea have too many problems to start to go through.

Right here, right now, I just can't see City not retaining the league. The gap will come down. But I'm struggling to see that coming down significantly enough for someone to win it.

But then in just under three weeks we can top City's season by bringing that beautiful, 'big eared' btard back home for a 6th time so I shouldn't bemoan not matching them the league. :)

I really don't think there's any manager out there who can come in to any of the top 6 teams and compete with Pep/City for the coming years, sadly.. :(

Both @jgarnerr96 and @EthanLaird1 start for England. Garner Captain again :)

Both were fantastic in England’s 2-1 win over Italy.

I don't dislike José and i do think he is a tactically astute manager. But his work at Manchester United is subpar even by his standards. His 14-15 Chelsea was a wonderful team that could defend like ****, pass the ball with purpose and class and counter-attack in a deadly way. This version of Manchester United can't pass the ball or create chances in a structured way, and the reason teams don't score much against us is mostly De Gea. We must improve our performances next season or will be really hard to compete against Pep's City and Klopp's Liverpool.
