The Manchester United Thread

The shoplist of my dreams this summer:

Alex Sandro: world class FB, can attack and defend with class. Great technique and can also play as a wing-back with a back 3.

Skriniar: We need a world class CB that can play out of the back, has great defensive positioning and don't have brain farts each 2 or 3 games.

Fred/Jorginho/Fabinho/Milinkovic-Savic: I think we need a CM that can structure our build-up play with smart passes, and can also work off the ball to allow Pogba more freedom. Fred can do that, he's a Fernandinho kinda player. Jorginho is better at passing and has great tactical discipline, but is not great in defensive actions. Fabinho and Savid are limited in possession

Willian:
Conte doesn't seem to think much of him and he's been the best player of Chelsea's second half of the season. He exposed Barcelona before Roma did.

2 or 3 of this players would massively improve our team.

100% agree on the positions we need to prioritise for next season, LB, CB, CM and RM!

Mourinho gives injury update

In terms of injuries, is Lukaku and Fellaini the two players that are not available for tomorrow and apart from that Jones is back, Sanchez is back and no more problems.

Mourinho has been asked about Sir Alex Ferguson
Have you been or touch or managed to see him?:

It’s private. His family ask for privacy and that’s what I’m going to respect.

More from Mourinho on Sir Alex Ferguson
‘Are you happy he will make a swift recovery?’

They are positive, they are very, very positive.

We are confident.

Romelu Lukaku injury latest
Mourinho confirms he will not play again in the Premier League this season, when asked if he would feature against Watford Mourinho replied: ‘No.’

When asked if he would feature in the FA Cup final Mourinho replied: ‘We try.’

Mood at Old Trafford
Will the mood be affected by the Sir Alex Ferguson news?

No, I can only think that if there is any relation it is a positive relation.

How the players have responded after Brighton defeat
They all work well, even in weeks that hand in bad performances or bad results, I never have anything negative to say about the professionalism of my players during the season, this week was not different.

Mourinho on Carrick
He will start the last match, OT, last match of the PL, our captain in front of our fans, he will start the match against Watford.

Mourinho on Carrick's impact and future at the club
The most important quality is to be a man, MAN, capitals, a proper man and football is not full of them and not just football, society is not full of them, so when you find one of them you have to value and you have to keep and in this case is not about me, is about the club, the club had on him great many years playing football and now when his body says is enough the club and myself will want to keep the man, of course he has qualities that we believe can make him a good coach and there are many ways to do the bridge between player and coaching staff, there are many ways to do it, some guys prefer to have a couple of years to study or go to youth football.

In this case we decided the bridge could be that bridge, to change shirts and dressing rooms and offices and to stop being a player and become an assistant.

I give my assistants very good conditions for their evolution and I think Michael can be very positive for us.

Yeah, isn't it funny how you were spending big on full backs, but both Shaw and Darmian ended up disappointing. Meanwhile, Young and Valencia, once makeshift full backs, took their chance and grew into fairly competent players in new position.

Goes to show you that solving everything with transfers isn't always the right way and sometimes improving the players you already have or promoting from within can be just as effective.

Good news about fergie being out of intensive care, hope he continues to recover well

Valencia hasn't been as good as he was last season this year. His goals weren't bad, but his crossing seems to have gotten worse. As for Young, he was great in the first half of the season, but in 2018 he's been inconsistent defensively. I wouldn't sell either one of them, but I'd be disappointed if they're our first choice full backs next season.

I didn't want us to sign Darmian, but I never expected him to be this awful, he's got to go. Shaw on the other hand is still in his early 20s, so really we shouldn't be giving up on him yet. Considering the way Jose has treated him though, I can't say I'd blame Luke if he wanted to go.

Great news about Fergie!

I'm not against developing players, but you must have a balanced squad. I think we have many players with a lot of room to grow (Martial, Rashford, Mctominay, Shaw, Lindelof, Lingaard) and some players that will never live up to the promise of when we bought them (Jones, Smalling, Herrera). Most of our already established players are useful to have in a squad, but are far from elite (Valencia, Young, Fellaini, Mata,Rojo). ****, i can even arguethat Pogba, Lukaku and Bailly, some of our finest talents, have some room to improve and are not the finished article.

We need to add more quality and depth to the squad. We also need to buy better, that's undeniable. We need a world class CB since Vidic and Ferdinand left (remember when we offer a load of money for Hummels and Ramos under LVG?). We also signed a lot of CM that didn't fix our problems (Fellaini, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger). Chelsea, City and Liverpool(kinda) are smarter than us going to the market.

From embargoed presser-

Jose Mourinho on Paul Pogba: “I can give the guarantee I don't want him to leave. I can give you the guarantee that the club doesn't want to sell and I can give the guarantee that we don't have any approach from him, his agent or any club. In this moment, for me, he is staying.”

Jose Mourinho on if his players have mental capacity to bridge gap to Man City: “Some players I am totally convinced that they are going to make it, some I have good hopes that they are going to make it and some others I don’t believe are going to make it.”

Jose said,no way Rashford goes on loan next season "he impresses me"...

Best joke today

Just seen that Wayne Rooney has been to visit Sir Alex Ferguson.
'His speech is improving and he can now string a sentence together,' said Fergie

Good luck @EthanLaird1 & @jgarnerr96

Both been Fanta so far in first 2 games. With Garner getting motm in the first.

I like it. Looks like Mou is preparing already for the FA cup final with this lineup as West Ham play same formation as Chelsea!

10 mins gone Smalling has made 2 horrendous mistakes!

Good effort Mctominay and then Lingard. **** how did we not score there another 2 great efforts from Sanchez and Shaw in quick succession. 2 very good saves tbf! Smalling looked like a fifty year old there against Arnoutavic :O

Not bad first half lack of intensity but we have had good moments. Apart from Smalling being absolutely terrible and Jones looking nervous. Everyone has played pretty well. Valencia end product is awful though. Sanchez and especially Shaw been great.

Sanches has been good. However, he's the striker in this game yet he's not playing as one. There's no one to lead the line. Solution? Get Smalling off and bring Martial in (Rash might be better option). That way you might get Martial a bit happier, or to cement him as deadwood. If you want to keep 3 at the back, get Lingard off. You need someone to lead the line.

5 at the back is such a bore. Trying things out for the FA Cup final no doubt, but it'll want to be 10x better than that. Sanchez the only attacker that looked anywhere near half lively. Shaw had a good game too, as did Lindelof.
