The Manchester United Thread

Get well soon. Shredded a tear reading it.

Nobody comes back fighting like Sir Alex, just ask his opponents.

Prayers.

****! Been away traveling to my sisters. Just seen the news. Absolutely gutted SAF will come out fighting. Prayers with his all! :(

Be nice to see a couple youngsters in the last 2 games. Especially now top 4 is done and dusted for us and second pretty much the same. See Mourinho was watching the youth friendly yesterday against Birmingham.

Despite losing to Brighton with other results going United way a win in the next game and second place is wrapped up. If they can cut out the inconsistency next season Citeh will not have it all their own way in the league.

It's weird because we have almost swapped places with Liverpool this season. We're losing to the ***** of the league, with each defeat feeling like deja vu, but have one of the very best records vs. the top 6. Think I read yesterday that Liverpool didn't win one away game vs. the top 6 this season, yet they're not coming as unstuck as they were last season vs. the lower sides.

Yep just think if the two of them could sort it out then the league will be just that little more exiciting.

Just hope we get rid of Jose. Can smell a bit of toxicity in the air already. Get him out before he does he pushes Martial & co. out.

Cant see Mourinho going not yet. And for some of his flaws still think he’s the right man for now for us. There might be a few issues with some players and tbh how some of them have performed rightly so. Don’t think it’s anywhere near as bad as the press are making out. But hey Utd in strife sells. Especially when we have Mourinho in charge.

That third season meltdown would appear to be starting early this time round.

Yeah, just talking about the flip in form against the other big 5 verses the rest of the league yesterday. L'pool have won two this year the top end. Arsenal and City at home. Compared to going unbeaten through those 10 games last season. Whilst Utd have flipped the other way. Mad turnaround.

You struggle to not see City being comfortable again next season. I mean they won't have the league season they've had this year. But they're still a LONG way ahead of everyone else before they go mad in the transfer market again. There's you lads in second which is a complete headscratcher when you watch Utd games and you looking the furthest thing from the second best-placed side going. Which is on the manager as the attacking quality is there. This could and should be a real exciting, attacking Utd side. Instead it bores the living **** out of you. And they've picked up less points the second half the season than the first if I'm not wrong? L'pool are needing 5 or 6 top quality additions alongside Keita to be able to rotate and not have a drop off outside the top XI which can compete better than anyone with City. But not their ridiculous depth. From October onwards we've picked up more points than anyone bar City. But still too many draws in there and players legs falling off having to play the vast majority as injuries and lack of quality depth catches up. Tottenham continue to be Tottenham. And Arsenal and Chelsea have too many problems to start to go through.

Right here, right now, I just can't see City not retaining the league. The gap will come down. But I'm struggling to see that coming down significantly enough for someone to win it.

But then in just under three weeks we can top City's season by bringing that beautiful, 'big eared' btard back home for a 6th time so I shouldn't bemoan not matching them the league. :)

I really don't think there's any manager out there who can come in to any of the top 6 teams and compete with Pep/City for the coming years, sadly.. :(

Both @jgarnerr96 and @EthanLaird1 start for England. Garner Captain again :)

Both were fantastic in England’s 2-1 win over Italy.

I don't dislike José and i do think he is a tactically astute manager. But his work at Manchester United is subpar even by his standards. His 14-15 Chelsea was a wonderful team that could defend like ****, pass the ball with purpose and class and counter-attack in a deadly way. This version of Manchester United can't pass the ball or create chances in a structured way, and the reason teams don't score much against us is mostly De Gea. We must improve our performances next season or will be really hard to compete against Pep's City and Klopp's Liverpool.

The shoplist of my dreams this summer:

Alex Sandro: world class FB, can attack and defend with class. Great technique and can also play as a wing-back with a back 3.

Skriniar: We need a world class CB that can play out of the back, has great defensive positioning and don't have brain farts each 2 or 3 games.

Fred/Jorginho/Fabinho/Milinkovic-Savic: I think we need a CM that can structure our build-up play with smart passes, and can also work off the ball to allow Pogba more freedom. Fred can do that, he's a Fernandinho kinda player. Jorginho is better at passing and has great tactical discipline, but is not great in defensive actions. Fabinho and Savid are limited in possession

Willian:
Conte doesn't seem to think much of him and he's been the best player of Chelsea's second half of the season. He exposed Barcelona before Roma did.

2 or 3 of this players would massively improve our team.

100% agree on the positions we need to prioritise for next season, LB, CB, CM and RM!

Mourinho gives injury update

In terms of injuries, is Lukaku and Fellaini the two players that are not available for tomorrow and apart from that Jones is back, Sanchez is back and no more problems.

Mourinho has been asked about Sir Alex Ferguson
Have you been or touch or managed to see him?:

It’s private. His family ask for privacy and that’s what I’m going to respect.

More from Mourinho on Sir Alex Ferguson
‘Are you happy he will make a swift recovery?’

They are positive, they are very, very positive.

We are confident.

Romelu Lukaku injury latest
Mourinho confirms he will not play again in the Premier League this season, when asked if he would feature against Watford Mourinho replied: ‘No.’

When asked if he would feature in the FA Cup final Mourinho replied: ‘We try.’

Mood at Old Trafford
Will the mood be affected by the Sir Alex Ferguson news?

No, I can only think that if there is any relation it is a positive relation.

How the players have responded after Brighton defeat
They all work well, even in weeks that hand in bad performances or bad results, I never have anything negative to say about the professionalism of my players during the season, this week was not different.

Mourinho on Carrick
He will start the last match, OT, last match of the PL, our captain in front of our fans, he will start the match against Watford.

Mourinho on Carrick's impact and future at the club
The most important quality is to be a man, MAN, capitals, a proper man and football is not full of them and not just football, society is not full of them, so when you find one of them you have to value and you have to keep and in this case is not about me, is about the club, the club had on him great many years playing football and now when his body says is enough the club and myself will want to keep the man, of course he has qualities that we believe can make him a good coach and there are many ways to do the bridge between player and coaching staff, there are many ways to do it, some guys prefer to have a couple of years to study or go to youth football.

In this case we decided the bridge could be that bridge, to change shirts and dressing rooms and offices and to stop being a player and become an assistant.

I give my assistants very good conditions for their evolution and I think Michael can be very positive for us.

Yeah, isn't it funny how you were spending big on full backs, but both Shaw and Darmian ended up disappointing. Meanwhile, Young and Valencia, once makeshift full backs, took their chance and grew into fairly competent players in new position.

Goes to show you that solving everything with transfers isn't always the right way and sometimes improving the players you already have or promoting from within can be just as effective.
