The Manchester United Thread

Looks like Daley Blind is going back to Holland. Shame I like him and he’s been good tbf. But it’s better for him to leave and we are getting a good fee too. In the same De Telegraph article it say Utd were that confident of getting a good fee. That it’s let them push ahead for Harry Maguire.

If if that’s true can defo see RoShaun and Tuanzebe going out on loan again and maybe selling one from last years squad. Bailly, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Lindelöf, Maguire seems a bit much. Unless we switch to 3 at the back.

Please dont tell me you've been hoodwinked into thinking Harry Maguire would be good enough for yous lot. Turns slower than Emre Can and has the positional sense of a prime Joel Matip ( also known as the Glen Johnson of CB's). Dont be fooled just because he is decent on the ball.

Not been hoodwinked into to anything tbh. Just stating what the article was saying and backed up by Stoney from the BBC. But while we are at it I actually do like him. Is he good enough? Hard to tell without him making the step up. Do I think he can be potentials yes.

My main concern with Maguire is his pace, but look what Mourinho was able to do with Terry.

Not really sure why people question him positionally, I will admit however that I have only really watched him avidly at the World Cup and not for Leicester. But then again if there is one person who can improve that it's Jose.

I honestly have no qualms in trusting Mourinho when it comes to CB's he is usually the best in the business.

Overall I thought Maguire was the best England defender at the WC, always looked in the right place, could come out with the ball like a tank and has good passing ability. Also so dominant in the air as well.

Vidic, Pallister, Bruce wasn’t speed merchants either. I rate Maguire tbh.

Just posted by Stoney at BBC- Daley Blind to Ajax is indeed happening. £14m up to £18.5m. @ManUtd have work to do but no current plan to ignite interest in Toby Alderweireld. Shifted target.

Don't have a problem with Maguire tbh. Especially if we bin off Smalling.

Happy to bring Maguire in, but only it's a like-for-like transfer and he's happy to not be guaranteed XI football. Still want us get Toby Alderweireld over the line, he's a different gravy. CB options of: Bailly, Toby, Maguire, Rojo & Jones/Smalling (one of them gone for Maguire) would be nice.

But if Maguire is an alternative to Alderweireld, thanks but no thanks. That's just my take

To run off my above post, we're now being rumoured to sign Bonucci for 32M. This is the calibre of CB we should be signing, especially at that reported steal of a price. Him or Alderweireld is the bar.

Like I said, happy to take Maguire if it's the case of 'one in, one out', upgrading our overall quality/depth in that area, but not for a starting position. Not for where we want to be; trying to get back to the peak of English & European football. He'd be sound to cover injuries, rotation, cup games & when we go 3 at the back in certain matches, but no more than that, imo.

No chance we get Alder especially from the latest reports from Belgium Spurs won’t budge on 70m. And him saying he would be happy to stay. Looks like we have moved on if the beeb are right. Amoyal saying he’s heard nothing about Bonucci to Utd.

Bonucci would be perfect, that's why I predict it won't happen.
Not sure about him tbh. 31/32 played nearly If not all his career in Italy. Can’t rem the last Italian defender to do well in the Prem they notoriously struggle. And he wasn’t very good at all last season! Rather pay more and get someone else.

I've been in love with Maguire since his Hull days and been pretty much hoping United would go for him every summer, think he's complete as a defender. Only missing experience and titles, let's hope he can achieve that in United!

Well he has a lot of experience, is hard as nails and isn't exactly slow either. So I find it hard to see why he couldn't adapt. Just someone with his mentality coming into this squad at the back just seems so ideal.

Sure we could get other options, but there isn't really many decent ones seemingly available.

Got to be Maguire for me if not Bonucci, **** Aldeweireld at 70m, Spurs can get stuffed.

What has happened to all the LB talk anyway? I know there is talk of Dalot overing there but then he also plays RB so god knows.

Young, Shaw, Dalot and Mourinho was impressed with Demi Mitchell loan in Scotland last season. Not to mention Rojo as an option. Really wanna see what Demi can do he’s been in great form since last seasons summer tour. Was absolutely fantastic on loan.

Been watching Utd in training just now. Great to see the lads back all having a laugh. Martial and Jose joking with each other. Also great to see the youngsters there! And the most pleasing thing was seeing Carrick and McKenna fully hands on handling sessions.

Toby is great, but he's available for £25m next summer, there's no way we should be giving in to Levy's ridiculous demands. I'd offer no more than £40m to take him now.

I love Bonucci so I'd have him in a heartbeat. I really like Maguire too, don't understand the criticism for him at all, but my problem with signing him is he'd probably cost about as much as Lindelof & Bailly combined and it's not like he's a massive improvement on either one.

Amoyal said in his podcast that there has been no bids for Bonucci. Sounds to me there throwing stories out there for buyers as they desperately need cash. Also said Inter are the only club rivalling Juve for Darmian.

Let the madness begin :)
