The Manchester United Thread

I know the problem, just throwing 150mil at an issue nowadays doesnt fix it.. the cliff edge has gotta be coming fees wise surely.

Just watched France vs Italy friendly. Pogba was proper dire, even got booed by the French fans. Deschamps said afterwards needs to focus more and raise his level.

Pogba's United career will be on the line next season for me, another below par season and can see him moving on. Same with Mourinho.

Don’t know what happened with Pogba after his injury and suspension! Still had good games but lost all consistency. Was playing great before that. Hopefully he can have a trouble free season next year.

TV Globo, who are broadcasting Brazil's friendly, just confirmed Fred's move to Manchester United. Reporter after the match said €50m, commentator said during match €53m. Could sign still tonight.

Also a couple reports in Brazil saying Periera will be here next season.

David de Gea (on Real Madrid interest): "I am happy where I am at Manchester United. I look forward to next season " [Spain-Switzerland Press Conference]

Hopefully all of United can have a trouble free season and not just Pogba! XD

Have no clue about Dalot but Fred is decent, not enough to make me think we'll win PL next season but... it's something.

Eh, definitely a start, yes. Part of the problem last time was we resorted to long balls too frighteningly often. And Herrera wasn't trusted in a midfield 3 most times (the formation that actually works best). With a 3 of Pogba-Matic-Fred, that is both defence, balance and creativity in the midfield. Maybe we can finally get the ball to our forwards in the right areas, instead of just long-balling it every time. That should definitely help.

It should help, but I think a lot of that is just down to Mourinho. I mean lets be honest here, could you of seen us playing long ball under pep with the team we had last season?

Pep would of probably used something like a 3 of Herrera/matic, Pogba and Mata. Sure they are not on the level of City's midfield, but if we really wanted to play that kind of game and not long-ball, we could of done it a lot better.

Ultimately what I'm saying is, it's Mourinho DNA to resort to long-ball, so don't expect it to change with Fred! :P

Dont think Mourinho DNA has ever had long balls in it. Especially at Porto, Madrid, Inter, Chelsea. Think it’s been over exaggerated here. Mostly because Smalling, Jones, Rojo are all good artists!

One thing that has surprised me on looking at Fred is how good his balls are from deep. And how often he looks to go forward with runs or quick passes.

Is it though? I know he will go all stops to win. That doesn't necessarily mean long-ball. We knew we were getting a defensive minded coach in the beginning, lets be honest. And I wouldn't mind that. I think Mourinho's problem is more towards motivating players/trusting them.

Think part of the reason for the major long-balls this season was him not trusting his current personnel to achieve his Plan A (or Plan B, I don't know). But I don't remember Chelsea being all long-ball. And take our match in the second half against City to see that Mou can go the other way (albeit he was up against the wall in the City game).

My thing is, considering now he is supposed to be assembling his team (and has sidelined who he considers deadwood), there should be lesser emphasis on long-ball from him this season. Least, that's what I'm expecting. Defensive footy? Yes. But more watchable footy, definitely.

Mourinho has more strings to his bow than obviously the long-ball stuff he has resorted to at times, when you see Fellaini lumped up top it's only for one thing.

Agree though that this is ultimately the defining summer that he will have assembled his team and that this coming season will be the true judge of what Mourinho will deliver at United.

As I've said numerous times, statistically it was a good season in the league but when you're so far behind biggest rivals at the top and the football looks just as far behind, it doesn't count for a lot.

I can accept City were just by far the best team this year in the league, what really irked me was the FA Cup final vs Chelsea. We showed next to no passion, no quality, nothing. Not a good way to finish a season.

Congratulations to #MUFC Under-18s forward D'Mani Mellor, who has signed a first professional contract with the club.

Oh and other than the Fa Cup final shambles, we really flopped in the CL this season as well!

Anyway, enough doom and gloom (for now). Fred is a good start, lets hope it's the start of a positive season. I wanted Fred so I'm happy with him.

I hope Fellaini doesn't come back to bite us in the ***.. I wish we'd extend his contract.. :'(
