The Manchester United Thread

slightly but as i mentioned them having the ability to play their different positions sucessfully is another question... even Luiz can play across the back 4 but do i want him as my full-back is another question

have you watched Jones this season? becuase hes mostly been playing in midfield

now ur making statements without backing them up with some logic, why would i believe you..... Im just merely wondering what happens to Evans who all of u have convienently left out of the discussion plus if Smalling is a ideal replacement for Rio then your 15m signing Jones is .....?

Jones is Vidic replacement and will get games as DM.

For you info,

Rio is 32 and will not go forever.
Vidic is 29 and may have 3-4 good years in him.

Smalling is 21 and will gradually replace Rio.
By the time Vidic shows signs of decline Jones will be ready to take over from Vidic.

And Evans still will get games as fullback and CB.. Last season Vidic didn't get any rest so hopefully this season he will get.. Same with Evra

yes but im merely wondering if he can play in the midfield to such a standard which is required in the CL for example cos thats what he has to do if he wants to command a place in ur fabled midfield

ok so his two red cards vs Liverpool were a MOTM performance, good to see the faith

2 red cards in how many games? Any defender who never got redcard in the modern game?

Sigh..

Oh dear.. right,

Chris Smalling is an ideal replacement for Rio when he hangs up his boots and can also play right back whilst Phil Jones is young enough to still be a natural replacement should Vidic leave (fingers crossed he doesn't) or retires.

simply enough for you?

But Evan's and Jones can actually play in a different position. They are comfortable with playing in their position that they have played in before. Luiz, as far as i'm aware, has only played DC.

A moment of madness, or a mistake doesn't mean his performance was rubbish.

Can we see the future? no. Thats like asking will Torres return to what he was, or remain the current50m flop?

You're just using a strawman argument.

In CL we play 4-3-3 so he will be deployed as DM with 2 other CMs.. He is not ready to start now as he is just 19..

oh yes I am sure they will get games in the future I am merely wondering wha will they be doing next season or the season after next.... cos for a player to progress he needs regular games when he is young u know

and I doubt Vidic will get the rest for the sake of it, u lot battled your way to the title this season with Vidic and the title could have been in different hands if Arsenal and Chelsea did not implode so i vey much doubt Vidic will get a rest, he is ur captian, he should be playing more games than 90 percent of the squad

again when did i ever mention Chelsea's defenders are picture perfect and just for ur info Vidic got these cards against the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea... games where it is important for u not get to get a card whatever time it is cos both these teams can punish u if ur down to ten men

I'm just comparing him to some of the top defenders in the league. To say Vidic is rash when he has a better ratio of bookings suggests otherwise. In his early United career, it certainly looked as though he struggled against Torres, but he has put those doubts firmly to bed. A red card in the 90th minute really makes no difference to the outcome of the game. I'd suggest Luiz should have been sent off for his 'rash' tackle earlier in the game, then would you start throwing these accusations at him?

The signing of Jones is clearly one for the future, but it is something that has to be done before the players they replace get to old. It gives him plenty of time to settle at the club and work closely with the likes of Ferdinand and Vidic while they are still in their prime (unlike Chelsea where you offload Ballack and Deco because they are too old, and sign Ramires and just expect him to slot straight into the team)

I suppose we are allowed to speculate right? thats what managers do before they buy young players, they discuss if this player can become a superstar or another lost talent

oh so now u know what formation Fergie i going to play in the CL every season, Fergie may change the formation one day if people get used 2 it... a hundred other things can happen so unless ur part of the Man Utd backroom staff this evidence is meaningless

Jones is young and will be introduced gradually. You can't expect a 19 year old to get games straight away at big club unless you are Messi or Ronaldo or showed extreme promise as Rooney..

Vidic will be rested. Last season our away form was below par and I dont think we will repeat that. Vidic will be rested just not for the sake of it but to keep him fresh for important games..

Or in the asymmetric 4-2-3-1

Both are same Mike, just the way we put it on paper differs ;)

aye and he did pretty well did'nt he considering it was his first full season in England, I got high hopes of him... took awhile to settle but he showed his ability in more than a few games and got the best Chelsea goal of the season award

A job well done for him me thinks

Good grief, you are just trolling, since its well known what formations he will use

move on

I suppose i agree with these points :)

although not everyone needs time to settle really, some players have slot straight into the first team but meh every manager has a different style

Tell me what is for sure in football then? If you have watched our games you will know that more than 90% we played 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 in Europe..

And this is getting tiresome. If we follow your logic, its better to close football section in this forum as none of us are part of any club..

no not really, he can always change his formation if other teams get used to it, how can u b sure he is gonna stick with the same formation in every CL game?

Just like how Carlo did mid-way through the season when he saw that his 4-4-2 diamond was being exploited by other teams and he changed to his 4-3-3

That's my point. He did well for his first season in the English league to be fair, but was that judgement or luck? At least by signing them early and working closely with them, the manager can make assumptions on how well thay can develop. If SAF signs Jones and realises he isn't the man to replace Vidic, he still has time to find someone else rather than being stuck with a player that isn't good enough

well u seem to believe that u know Utd's are going to play 4-3-3 in every CL game for years to come until Fergie deems Jones suitable enough to fill the DM position, im jus wondering if Unitec change their formation before that and Fergie may/will u never know
