The Manchester United Thread

Can’t blame Arnold, Murtaugh or Rashford. His contract should never of gotten this close to expiring. Once it did he had us by the cojones 😁 and like Vanj said it would have cost us more anyway. We will have still shed a chunk of the wage bill by the time the window is closed.

Transfer market went so crazy last few years that 50 mil for a goalkeeper seems like a good bargain.

Whats the alternative? Losing him on a free? What then? Spend 100m on a similar player who'd be on a similar wages anyway?
We just seem overly generous with wages on players.

I can only take solace in the fact that it is likely his final big contract till he starts to decline and some other north london club thought it was a good idea to give a 21 year old winger from their academy a 300k per week contract

Simple question mate, what would you do? He did have better offers on the table, mind.

His last contract was a mistake, I agree. This one, nope.

Likely Maguires replacement as 5th choice CB

Jonny Evans - surprising + intriguing. Positive to see a player held in warm regard by fans + staff back at #MUFC, could it turn into a longer contract? Pre-season deal suits both parties at present. Staying on depends on Evans fitness + outgoings.

Jonny Evans took part in a number of first-team sessions and caught the eye of Ten Hag and his coaching staff.

#mufc are not ruling anything out after handing Jonny Evans a short-term contract. United believe Evans can pass on valuable experience to the younger players

Ten Hag been talking about the young Norwegian starlet 😁

Ten Hag on Isak Hansen-Aarøen: “He did well, making a good pass for the first goal. He’s really comfortable on the ball; he has good vision and good scanning. Of course he’s a young player, he has some deficits he needs to work on, which we will show him and tell him and we will work with him to improve him.”

“He has been a very good person and leader and is someone who gives security to the group. He has a lot of self-confidence, but he is good at reading what the group needs and when they need it. He has a good emotional intelligence and is a confident leader.” [via

Offer 250k per week and heavily incentivize an additional 50k based on goals scored and some other team metrics.

Football is entertainment for a worldwide audience. Just the same as a movie, a TV show or a top musician is.

I never hear anyone complaining that Keanu Reeves got paid $15 million to act in John Wick? Or Bella Ramsey gets €750k for each episode of the last of us

Rashford’s new contract is worth around £325k-a-week so falls within United’s existing wage structure. HEAVILY incentivised for success on the pitch so plenty of motivation to keep improving. Relatively drama-free renewal given the importance of the deal for Rashford and United.

Basically the same deal he signed, give or take. Context matters, and Rashford is worth to United more than some ~50kpw.

Sort off. Before, most expensive players were strikers, because they are most important - they score goals. Then when people figured out that midfield is the most important, suddenly they are close to striker price, etc. Now, its about GKs, people finally figured out they are also important, and in this ****** up market, 50m for any really good players is a bargain.
Evolution.

That's being exceptionally polite.

It blows my mind that you have that humongous flop Sancho on the same base salary as a player who will go down as one of the PL's greatest ever. If he isn't well in that conversation now. Mo Salah. With Rashford bagging just £25k less a week now! Has he ever put two consecutive top drawer seasons together in his career?

Is that 3/4 players on £300 plus a week now? Or even more? And folk wonder why the hunger isn't there to have Utd competing.
