The Manchester United Thread

Does it? I still can't see him going with or without Vilanova.

Ever since he came back he's been mostly benched and there's been new manager every year. I think its safe to say he may have expected a bit different environment.

The fact we're being so outspoken about who it is we're trying to sign gives me more confidence than Barca's denials take away. They're going to deny it regardless, whereas you can count on one hand the amount of times we actually speak so openly about targets. The only one that immediately springs to my mind is RVP, and we know how that ended.

I don't understand why you think Barca would keep on denying it. If anything it only hinders them on getting more publicity therefore getting a better offer for Cesc or more interest from other clubs.

No one else has shown a serious interest apart from us. That said they have more important things to work on right now.

Well quite. Who else would bid for Fabregas? The only other clubs that are of a sufficient size to appeal to him are Madrid (lolno), Bayern (content with their super midfield of death), Juventus (again, pretty stacked in midfield), Chelsea (Jose has publicly said he wants Rooney and nobody else), and City. The latter are the only ones who could conceivably make a bid for Fabregas, so it's not really worth the club advertising it around.

City buying Fabregas would actually give me a hilaritygasm though.

Barca acting illogical doesn't really mean much , does it? You're talking about the club that just recently sold David Villa away for 5m, sold Alcantara even though their midfield is aging badly, gave 35 year old Puyol 4-year contract extension after he just had 3 major injuries in one season, and blew 60 milion on Neymar despite the fact they have only one reliable center back in entire squad and their first choice goalkeeper wont renew his contract.

I think we can assume they are just being...well, Barca.

Except for the fact that he would be more likely to play for Wenger than Moyes...

And compete for the 4th place trophy? He left Arsenal to win medals and with the way things are going Arsenal won't be competing for the league title this season for sure.

He didn't leave to just to win medals you know? He left to join Pep and all his friends at Barcelona where he has now won almost everything.

He has said Wenger is the most important person in his life after his parents and his biggest regret is not being able to win a trophy as Arsenal captain. I believe pretty comfortable saying he wont be playing at OT except against Utd with Arsenal at some point.

So how many of you actually think you will get Fabregas? Serious question.

Well reports saying today we have made another £30m bid plus add ons. IF and it is a big IF we get a bid accepted I could potentially see us having a chance because Cesc would feel quite betrayed by that.

Player of his quality will want to win as many medals as possible, not just 1 league medal and half arsed cup medals.

Also him respecting Wenger has nothing to do with his footballing decision. He will take decision that will be better for his career and at least now Arsenal are level below the top clubs.

I'm pretty sure Fabregas and his agent know by now that he is the subject of United's desire anyway.

Yeh but the feel of betrayal only comes if Barca accept a bid off us for him. If they keep on rejecting he will feel wanted.

We've made a second bid of not much more. There must be some indication that an increased bid would not immediaitely be rejected.

I don't know. On the surface this transfer shouldn't work at all. And yet...

From the word of it, Barca don't want to sell but will accept £35m+ and Cesc doesn't want to leave but will go if Barca accept a bid.

With Arsenal having first refusal it will come down to Cesc's loyalty to Wenger/Arsenal or his desire to win trophies ala RVP

Can I ask, IF we were to get a bid accepted and IF Cesc actually does sign for united, then where would he play? I mean would he be playing next to Carrick in central midfield, or would he play more of a Kagawa/Rooney (well Rooney last season) when they played just behind RVP? Because I know he is a great talent but I don't know where he can work his magic best.

Alongside Carrick. Pushing from deep to create another point of attack.

Or as the AMC, with Kawaga wide.

The whole transfer situation confuses me as well.... something hopefully becomes clearer.

Even more peculiar.... this transfer seems to be very public.... which doesn't usually related with Manchester United dealings. Got a feeling something dramatical is about to happen. Just can't see how we would return with an offer if the player gave an indication the first time there was no opportunity of us getting him. Or the club for that matter.

That's what I was trying to say the whole time.

It's all to distract everyone from us getting Cristiano Ronaldo back.
