The Manchester United Thread

And you are missing the point. I never said said that United had a great team... All I said was that they had a better team than Chelsea. If you can prove to me that the likes of Lampard, Kalou, Malouda and a fading Drogba are better than United's EPL winning team then I will happily concede the argument

Not to mention Mata had to contend with 3 different managers and a marathon season as well ... Points which you conveniently ignored

Oh and reports that United will never let Rooney go in a swap deal for Mata. I am sorry but Woodward is a right muppet then ... What exactly is he trying to do by spending so much on Mata in a position where United blatantly don't need any reinforcements? Chelsea did the same thing in the summer and came out looking like fools and this is predictable what United will look if they submit such a bid

I said ManUtd had better team but not significantly better still Rooney stats are so much better. For a record he scored
34 goals in 2011-12 season and only 3 less than RVP.

Yeah well he is a striker, scoring goals is his job. As someone who watches 95% of all Chelsea games, I can confidently tell you that Mata carried our attack for the 2011/12 season when he came in all the way to the CL and FA Cup. Drogba may have gotten the heroics but it was Mata who carried us. In the next season, the creative burden on him was lessened somewhat but he became the most important player under Benitez and also had to play a frankly absurd number of games as Di Matteo didn't see fit to rotate the squad at all

United not only had a better team but it was also more stable under Ferguson. Mata is also younger, on lesser wages and of comparable talent to Rooney. It's fair if you think that you will be worse off in any swap deal because that's exactly how I feel about Chelsea. I think the one thing we can both agree on is that we don't want such a deal to take place

I do find Moyes comments really odd a lot of the time, worrying as well from a United fan's perspective. He doesn't seem to have that control over the media and does say stupid things a lot of times.

Well lets be honest, SAF would also say a lot of nonsense in the media, its just that he had results to go with it.

Moyes is surprisingly eloquent in print and in front of paper journalists. It makes his stiffness and terrified lost little boy at the department store demeanour in front of the cameras all the more odd. I swear that man instantly becomes 10x more awkward and likely to deliver a cringe worthy sound-bite the second his face appears on the screen.

I'd prefer Reus over Mata, ?29.4m release clause reportedly and he just would fit United a lot better. Probably wouldn't want to come though, whereas Mata probably does.

That's not active until the summer is it? Ignoring the other complications with deal, like the fact that Reus has shown 0 interest in coming to you so far and has been pretty adamant that he's staying at Dortmund for the near future.

Not 100% sure. My point is if we're gonna splash silly cash for a player, why not do it for someone who we need, particularly a CM. I'd rather see us throw a ?37m bid at Gundogan. Just don't get how Mata makes sense, it's just another square peg in a round hole, our squad has enough of them.

Reus release clause is not active till 2015 someone posted on another forum. But not 100% but think was quoted by Bild or that Ralph Hogensien bloke

Marquee signing. Show of strength. Whether we NEED him or not doesn't matter, but does he improve our current team? Yes. With our current finances we can easily afford ?37m for Mata and still buy what we actually need, plus change. We never needed RVP, but he pushed us to the title. We don't need Mata either, but he's a genuinely world class player, coming into his prime, who has everything to play for with the WC coming up. RVP pushed us to the title, Mata could well push us to the top 4. Tactically? It's not beyond the realm of possibility that we just change to a 4-3-3.
