Raphael Varane to ManUtd

French paper L'Equipe is reporting that United have been negotiating economic terms, which could include the player spending a time back at Lens on loan, and are close to finalising the deal.

Lens' Raphael Varane is set to decide on whether to join Man United in the next week or so. Fergie doesnt want to loan him back out. #mufc

Heard lot of good things about him. Hope we sign him. 18 year old tall defender who can also play as CM/DM. Perfect..

Interesting take on this from Graham Bean, former FA compliance officer. Particularly relating to Sir Alex being the only one of the three being formally charged.

Graham Bean has attacked the FA’s decision to charge Sir Alex Ferguson as a totally absurd and ridiculous one. The former FA compliance officer is incensed that the Manchester United manager was charged with improper conduct after discussing referee Howard Webb in the 48 hours prior to United’s 2-1 win against Chelsea on Sunday May 8. But since that charge Ferguson was warned as to his future conduct along with Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, and today Stoke boss Tony Pulis was also warned after calling Webb ‘a great ref’ ahead of their FA Cup semi-final win over Bolton.

And Bean has told talkSPORT that the rules are being twisted to punish managers. He said: “It is totally absurd. These series of issues are some of the most ridiculous that I have ever come across. The reality of it is that Alex Ferguson must be the only manager in the world to be charged by the Football Association for praising a referee.

“The F.A are saying they want to respect the referee and yet when managers praise the referee they now find themselves in trouble. Common sense hasn’t prevailed. The FA have brought this rule in that you can’t speak about a referee before a game, that rule was designed so that you don’t put pressure on the referee by making derogatory comments about previous games.

“It wasn’t designed for when a referee gets praised. When you look at Howard Webb he’s the only referee to have done the Champions League final and the World Cup final in the same season, he is the best in the world arguably.

“So what have these managers done to warrant such action. The reality of it is that there is some jobs worth within the FA in their ivory tower with nothing to do and taking quite ridiculous actions. The superiors at the FA need to closely look at it and question whether the individuals are fit for doing the job that they do.

“It’s happened on a number of occasions before Sir Alex did it and the FA have done absolutely nothing. What they’ve done is send a warning letter out to managers saying be aware and be mindful of your comments but in this case for some reason they have decided to issue a charge against Sir Alex Ferguson when we’re on the last fortnight of the season.

The common sense attitude would have been we’re in the final two weeks of the season, send the letters out and make managers aware that with effect from next season even if you make comments of a good nature about referees then you will be charged.

Bean continued that by singling Ferguson out for a charge as well as a warning, while letting Ancelotti and Pulis escape with warnings they were giving Manchester United a valid reason to claim they are victimised.

He continued: “If ever Manchester United wanted to argue that they were being victimised and discriminated against by the FA, this gives them the ideal opportunity.

Sir Alex has been charged and formally placed before a disciplinary hearing. That means that his disciplinary record will have that issue on the record for five seasons.

In respect to [Carlo] Ancelotti and Tony Pulis theirs won’t be on their record. So in effect Ancelotti and Pulis have been treated differently to Sir Alex and the FA need to be made accountable for that because they are discriminating against Sir Alex and other managers.”

Good read. Have to agree with the article. 3 managers got different treatment. Thanks to FA.

A little bit off topic and a little bit of a plug - but still about Manchester United.

Neville to build a supporters club club on Sir Matt Busby Way

Gary Neville is planning a multi-million pound ‘thank you’ to the United fans. The lifelong Red, who made more than 600 first-team appearances during his 17-year Old Trafford career, called it quits in February.

Juventus come to Manchester for the 36-year-old right-back’s testimonial match at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

And part of the proceeds from the benefit evening will be pumped into a project to build a United Supporters Club on Sir Matt Busby Way, adjacent to the Bridgewater Canal in the shadow of the stadium

The club will house 1,500 Reds on match days and there will be hotel accommodation as part of the unique building.
It is an independent project conceived by Neville (right) but has the approval of the club.

“I am a fan. I have always been a fan. I wanted to do something for the fans,” Neville told M.E.N. Sport.

“I have said that publicly for the last 15 years.

“You can choose many a good charity or project. I just thought it was something I know would give me satisfaction and fulfil what I believe to be a thank you, so the fans can go and enjoy knowing it is there for them to use. That was important for me.

“I’ve had it in my mind for about 15 years that if I ever got to the point where I played for the club and had earned a testimonial, I wanted to do something for the fans as part of that.

“This project already has outline planning permission, we need to get detailed planning permission now and we’ll be working very closely with Trafford Council.
“We aim to start on site early next year and complete it for the start of the 2013/14 season. The idea behind it is we can create a venue for Manchester United fans to go and socialise.

“I’m excited about it. There’s a little bit of trepidation – it’s a difficult project, a big project, but something I want to make sure happens.

“There are a few hoops to jump through as always with things like this, but hopefully we’ll get there. There have been a number of players who have looked at the testimonial
proceeds and I’m going to do three projects. This is one of them.

“I’m going to do something for the Manchester United supporters’ club in Malta because they’re very close to my heart and there will be some sustainable projects announced in the next couple of days as well.

“I wanted to try and make them all community and fan based because these are the people who have been most special in my life. I wanted to try and create something they could enjoy. There isn’t an official building for the fans to go and enjoy. Obviously they love coming to Old Trafford on matchdays, but outside of matchdays this will provide them with the ability to go and enjoy their own supporters’ club.”

Gary Neville is as hardcore supporter as they come. Good move by him. Shame these things should be done by the club.

Fergie:

"We have some ideas in mind," said the United boss. "Hopefully we can get them put in place.

"We have Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes coming towards the end of their careers, Gary Neville has already retired and Edwin van der Sar is retiring, so there are holes we want to plug up in terms of the safety and security of the team for the next few years.

"Of course, we have some excellent young players and a lot of them have progressed, which gives us a great, powerful squad.

"I am looking at maybe three signings which would boost our overall quality in our team."

Gill

It probably will be slightly busier than normal," Gill told MUTV during the annual Manchester United players' awards ceremony at Old Trafford.

"Gary has retired already. Edwin is retiring and Paul has to decide what he wants to do.

"We have been working very hard over the course of the last 12 months to plan which positions we need to fill, identifying those players and trying to work on it.

"What Alex Ferguson has done very successfully for nearly 25 years is to reinvent the team slowly and integrate them within the established stars.

"That is what we will continue to do.

"It gives a buzz to everyone at the club when you bring in high quality players. It is something we look forward to with relish."

Fergie and Gill made it clear that there will be few signings this summer and also maybe one big signing..

Who does everyone think Fergie will go for?

I'd love to see De Gea, Bale and Sneijder but think realisticly it could be De Gea, A Young and Sneijder/Rodwell

A big congrates to Javier Hernandez and Nani on winning the "fans player" & "players player" of the year awards. Throughly deserved.

Wouldn't mind de Gea, Sneijder and Rodwell to be honest but DON'T want Bale and A Young. We have two very good wingers who in my opinion are better than Bale and Young.

I see where you are coming from but I personally think Nani is a very good right winger but much less effective on the left and I'd play Antonio on the right ahead of him everytime. Suppose the problem is there are very few really top quality left wingers about

I agree but i'd still have Nani and Valencia in te starting team ahead of Bale. Nani's record this season despite not much game time recently speaks for itself on both flanks.

Any Utd fans thought about Diego at Wolfsburg? Good player thats fallen out out with the manager I believe.....

god no, way too arrogant, and lacks the work ethic.

Same could be said for alot of players. Ibra? Still class though. (I do agree about Diego though ;) just seen that he may be available for under 10 mil)

nah, you need that discipline fr 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 as an mc

I would rather have Alexis Sanchez than Ashley Young!I know we have wingers but he is just amazing and he can play second striker so he wouldn't be a misfit!

Difference is Ibra is class and way too arrogant. Diego is decent player and arrogant. Ibra has produced for big clubs every season, Diego failed with Porto and Juve. Not sure whether he has Big fish in small pond syndrome.

And we dont play AM, just not our style, and he lacks everything needed for a CM.

What a load from last nights awardss well done tunnerz tho appart from dat - **** - From Ravel Morrison's twitter.
