Seems Fergie has managed to sweet talk Bruce into taking him, thankfully.

I have to agree, I don't often dislike someone who wears the shirt of Manchester United but Darron Gibson to me just isn't good enough. He'd be a good signing though for Sunderland how'ever. Meanwhile, with Wes Brown, John O'Shea and maybe Gibbo all out, I don't see any real "weak-link" so to speak in the squad. Hopefully that doesn't mean players like Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher become scape goats by the fickle set of fans the club has.

2-0 Diouf.

Gonna catch some sleep before these commentators melt my brain.

5-0 Park,Rooney unselfish
And Rooney hat-trick 6-0 :D

This is why I  Obertan, pacey, good dribbler and he's big. Nice game for Ash. Looking forward his next game.

Like a Boss ( see what I did there ? )

From Posh forums.

was there tonight/last night first half was amazing second half a shambles . Really need some tall players and someone with a lot of energy as Ajose was lazy and poor but tunnicliffe and wooton played brilliant! great goals too promising but still missing few key pieces i recon

Good that our lads have started well then.

Very much impressed with our performance. Still can't believe we kept clean sheet. They could have scored at least 2 goals.

Nani and Rafael at Right side were brilliant. Shades of Beckham-Neville in Understanding each other game and when to make the runs. Hopefully they will be our first choice right side pairing for the season.

At last goal from Evra cross. Played very well. With rest and preseason I expect him to be back to his best.

Heard Rooney had holidays after 9 years it seems. He made everything looks so so easy. There was superb understanding with park. I have noticed it in the last season, but from every passing match it seems I'm right.

Macheda played well. His first touch was really good. Looks like Loan spell has done wonders for him. He looks lot matured with the ball at his feet. And also fit Owen will just score goals. No doubt about it. I'm very glad he has signed a new contract.

I wont be surprised if we keep Diouf. He looks good back up for wing position too. His crossing is surprisingly good, so is his movement.

Oh surprisingly Obertan had a good game. He had good preseason last season too. His assists were very good. He was gifted a goal but finishing was class..

And lastly Lindegaard is really a good keeper. And impressed with Ben Amos saves. Shame about the pass to Rio. Apart from that he made few very good saves.

If we can get one quality CM, then we are set. We have quality players in all other positions..

Oh and with Carrick in, we looked better team. Shame he gets so much stick..

Also very good turn up for the match. 67,052 in a 67,000 capacity stadium. Thats a hugh turn up for the game..

Macheda: Sampdoria fans wanted to fight me

Misguiding title, but good interview.
Federico Macheda says he has finally grown up and is ready to prove he belongs at Manchester United.

Macheda endured a miserable six-month loan spell at Sampdoria last season, failing to sore in 14 appearances as they were relegated from Serie A.

Such was the level of anger among Samp fans towards their team, Macheda was scared to leave his home for fear of being attacked.

Now back in the United fold, Macheda scored twice as a substitute in a 4-1 win over New England Revolution in Boston in the opening game of their five-match tour of the US. The goals, both clinical finishes, served as a reminder of his undoubted ability as real threat up front.

The 19-year-old said his ill-fated loan spell in his native Italy was just what he needed.

“I had a tough time at Sampdoria because I didn’t play much and the team were relegated,” said Macheda.

“I couldn’t really go out of my house in the six months I was there, because there was always the chance you’d end up fighting with fans who were angry with us. So it wasn’t the best situation.

“The fans in Italy can be a little crazy when things don’t go well. There are fans who pay a lot from their wages to follow the team, so sometimes it happens and you have to accept that.

“But that kind of thing doesn’t happen at United and I’m glad to be back.

"When you leave United to go to another team, you can see the difference.

“When you come back, like I have, you have a better focus and can see things a lot more clearly, with another mentality.

“In that way, going to Sampdoria was good. It was a bad spell, but sometimes a bad experience like that can make you better.

"The six months away from United has made me grow up a lot.”

Macheda announced himself in dramatic fashion in April 2009, with a stunning last-minute goal on his debut to give United a 3-2 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford - a victory which effectively clinched the Premier League title.

Yet since that day, Macheda has struggled.

He has made a further 26 appearances for United, scoring on three more occasions, as well as providing the assist for Javier Hernandez’s goal in a 1-0 Champions League win at Valencia last season.

Macheda, an imposing young man with a self-assurance bordering on arrogance, denied getting carried away with the adulation he received in the wake of his wonder goal, but admitted it raised expectations of him to an unrealistic level.

“I always had my feet on the ground,” he said. “My debut was fantastic, but it’s not easy to have a debut like that.

“After that, it wasn’t easy for me to establish myself in the team, because I didn’t play every game.

“I was only 17 at the time, a young boy. I’m still only 19 but sometimes, particularly when you have a debut like mine, people expect you to score fantastic goals in every game, which isn’t easy.”

With Wayne Rooney, Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov as United’s three front-line strikers and Mame Biram Diouf set to join Blackburn, Macheda will find himself fighting Michael Owen and Danny Welbeck for the right to be next in line.

With Ferguson having promised Owen more games next season and having declared Welbeck will not go out on loan again , Macheda faces a huge test of his ability and strength of character if he is to make an impact at United.

“I haven’t spoken to the boss but I hope he’s happy with the way I played,” said Macheda after his two-goal salvo in Boston.

“There are a lot of strikers at the club, all of them good players. But if the boss gives me a chance, I’ll take it.

“Even though there is a lot of competition for place, I want to stay and I know I will take my chance when I am given it.”

Fergie's building another great United team - Rio

All of Ferguson’s summer signings are now on their pre-season tour of the US, after £18.3million goalkeeper David de Gea and £16m defender Phil Jones joined up with the rest of the squad here in Seattle.

With £16m winger Ashley Young having already made his United debut in Boston, all of Ferguson’s new faces can now be integrated into his existing squad ahead of the new season.

And with 12 players now under 22, Ferguson this week admitted United’s squad - which arrives in Chicago today - had the feel of an “emerging team” within it, with huge potential for success and longevity.

At 32, Ferdinand is now one of Ferguson’s most senior figures, but the England defender said the right blend of youth and experience can keep United ahead of their Premier League rivals next term.

“I think we’ve still got an experienced nucleus who have been here four or five years and have won things consistently,” said Ferdinand.

“That breeds confidence, which is invaluable. We’ve also added three hungry players, who all want to win trophies.

“They’ve done really well, all of them. No fear, no problems. None of them have looked nervous. Ash [Young] has been here since day one and has fitted in really well.

“He played his first game and looked comfortable. The other two lads joined up a bit later - Phil Jones knows a few of the younger lads already, plus Mame Biram Diouf, so that’s helped.

“It’s been a bit easier for him than it has for David de Gea. But a few of the lads speak Spanish, so it hasn’t been too bad for him.

“I’ve always said it’s an easy club to come into - there’s such a good team morale.”

As well as the new signings, Ferdinand claimed the young players already at United, the likes of Rafael and Fabio Da Silva, Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Javier Hernandez, are only going to improve, which bodes well for the club’s future.

Although Ferdinand and captain Nemanja Vidic remain Ferguson’s first-choice central defensive partnership, Evans, Smalling and Jones will keep the heat on them next season, determined to force their way into the United first-team.

And while England Under-21 team-mates Smalling and Jones are seen as United’s future centre-back partnership for years to come, Ferdinand said it was foolish to discount Evans, despite the Northern Ireland defender enduring a difficult time last season.

“You can’t discount Jonny,” said Ferdinand. “It’s a bit out of order that people have been saying it’s definitely going to be Chris and Phil. Jonny’s also one of the most talented central defenders in Great Britain.

“I’m sure all three of them will be battling it out in the future to play in the centre of defence. It’s great that this club has players in all positions that will be the future of this club.

"Whether they’ll be as good as me and Vida, only time will tell. But they’re going to be top players for years to come.

"Rafael was first to get into the team and everybody knows what he’s capable of. At the back end of last season we saw the same with Fabio - not many 19- or 20-year-olds can say they’ve started a Champions League final.

“They’re also happy-go-lucky guys off the pitch, they’re into computer games and they’re always good for banter. They’re inseparable - everybody has different rooms on tour, but they stay in the same one.

"The other day on the coach they sat apart and that was the first time I’d ever seen that.”

Like many within the United camp, Ferdinand still finds himself brooding over last season’s chastening 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Barcelona at Wembley, but said dwelling on the disappointment would serve no purpose.

“We have to learn from last time,” said Ferdinand. “When we go into that game next time we can’t think too much about what happened last time. If you get sucked into that, it can hinder you.

"We need to take our chances when we get them. We also need to defend as well as we can in all situations.”

Loved the bit about Twins. If thats a big if a day comes when we have to sell one of them, I dont know how it will be for them..

Darron Gibson was on duty for United Reserves on Wednesday night as the Reds beat Fleetwood Town 2-0 in the latest pre-season friendly.

The Republic of Ireland international again captained Warren Joyce's side, but fellow midfielder Paul Pogba stole some of the limelight with a stunning first goal on 58 minutes. The young Frenchman produced something of a trademark strike, a right-footer from 25 yards that arced into the top right-hand corner giving Fleetwood goalkeeper Scott Davies little chance of saving it.

Danny Drinkwater maintained his record of scoring in every Reserves warm-up game so far when, five minutes from the end of a feisty yet fair contest, he attacked the right-hand byline and beat the full-back before slotting home from a tight angle.

This confident defeat of an ambitious Conference side represents the Reserves' best pre-season result so far and sets up Joyce's young squad for a two-match trip to Scotland where Spartans and Ayr United will provide the opposition.

United: Sam Johnstone; Michael Keane, Tom Thorpe (Larnell Cole, 46), Sean McGinty (Luke Giverin, 87), Ezekiel Fryers; Danny Drinkwater, Paul Pogba (Max Lonsdale, 87), Darron Gibson, Davide Petrucci (Jesse Lingard, 65), Oliver Norwood (Rafael Leao, 89); Will Keane (John Cofie, 46). Sub not used: Liam Jacob.

Pogba and Drinkwater scored. Drinkwater has scored 3 in 3 now..

Not a bad corner from Ashley Young!

My lord. Anything's possible in preseason friendlies eh?

Finally, a player in a Manchester United shirt who can take a corner lol

LOL

Haven't you heard, his debut will be against Barcelona ;)

Regarding Ashley Young and corners though, I swear to god, if both him and Nani are on the pitch at the same time and Nani steps up to take the corner I will stand up and shout "Oiii Nani..... NOOOOO"! In his direction ;)

DOUBLE LOL

My lord. Anything's possible in preseason friendlies eh?

Played well and also made a superb long range effort. If anything to go by the first 2 games, he will become very good player for us. But but these are friendlies where even Obertan was made to look like Messi :(

Anyone else finds it weird to see Rooney with his new hair?

Great performance from the team. We were all over them from the off and with some good link up play here and there. Owen looks fairly sharp. Rooney looks to be in insanely good shape for this point in the season. Maybe last seasons failures were down to not enough rest after the World Cup? Anyway, looks back to his best now - even if it was just a friendly.

I'm not an expert and I didn't even see the game but I think it's time I gave my analysis of the great club Manchester United and how to improve it. I have 1 major suggestion that I believe would push the staure of the club beyond all others, without any doubt. Sir Alex has probably pondered the idea, the chairmen and fans have probably had it floating in their heads subconciously and never focused on it. Sponcers have no doubt discussed it behind closed doors. It may seem an odd suggestion to some, maybe genius to others but in the end im sure everyone will agree with what I am about to say....

Rooney needs to grow a mullet

MUFC fans, make it happen.

Wootton and Tunnicliffe look the real deal, and should easily make names for themselves at Championship level. Along with Boyd, McCann, Zakuani and Tomlin, those two will be our most important players this season. I hope Tunnicliffe particularly can show his ability to help push for a place in Utd's first team squad.

Ajose is a decent enough player (for a youngster) but is certainly not the type of striker Posh fans have been used to worshipping (Craig Mckail Smith) which is why i think he got a bit of a rough deal from some of the fans. We got alot of our chances from CMS chasing lost causes and never giving up over the course of the past 3 years, now he's gone some Posh fans can't see any other way of creating goals. I still feel we need a more senior striker than Ajose for Tomlin Boyd McCann and Tunnicliffe to supply, but i don't suppose you care much about him as Man Utd pocketed a quick 300k for Ajose.
