The Manchester United Thread

When he was his age he scored 4 in 15 and went on to scored 11 in 17 the following season, and 10 in 11 in the one after, missing a few games due to injury. Sure, he was playing in Mexico, but he was still doing far better than Macheda. And above all things, he was getting games.

And about Fletcher, there's a difference between being 'good' and being 'good enough' for a top team. Fletcher's the former but definitely not the latter.
A few years ago, in Mexico, you thought about quitting football – how close did you come?
Very close. It was about three years ago and I had a lot of questions about whether or not this was the path God wanted me to follow. I wasn’t playing much football, I was being kept in the Reserves... I was disappointed younger players were coming through and getting ahead of me, and it really got me down, even away from football

When he was 20 he was thinking about quitting the game. And then he improved a lot. I haven't seen Hernandez when he was 20, but if he had Macheda's ability he would have played games when he was 20 in Mexico.

Seriously? He's not sending him out on loan because he had a bad loan spell? Makes no sense to me.

@ Sunil, you said it yourself, Gibson was above par for the reserves. You're contradicting yourself.

Lee Martin, Gibson were very good for reserves so was Macheda, Morrison, Pogba. Do you see how United fans rave about Pogba and Morrision and discard the players who were as good if not better for reserves?

And Macheda played few games at young age for reserves. I dont see where is the contradiction.

Edit: Also re your first point, SAF said in an interview that he dont want to send Macheda on loan as ManUtd staff wants to keep check on his attitude too. There are many factors, just because player is 20 and not getting first team chances doesn't mean he will sent on loan. Staff have lot of work to do behind the scenes.

Are they better players than fletcher out there? yes

But is he united quality? yes

I stopped reading when he said 'god'. Seriously. He wanted to quit because he though 'god' didn't want him to play. And as I mentioned when he was 20 he played 15 games scoring 4 times in the first months of 2009, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Some points on Fletcher:
He's highly composed, good passer, his work rate and stamina are remarkable and above all, very intelligent player. He lacks in speed and flair, but who gives a ****. He's/was our best midfielder in last 3-4 years.

Fecking typos

Well, as Mike told me a couple days ago, it's a good thing managers don't get carried away by all the hype, isn't it?

On the second bit, my point is that if he's not out of loan it's got a lot more to do with other things rather than having a bad loan spell.

I don't think we'll agree here, because IMO Fletcher is amongst the weakest links currently in United's squad.

15 games for a Mexican team. In that interview it was very clear that Hernandez didn't get games when he was 20. He was in Chivas reserves. And please stop talking about what he did later, I'm talking about when he was 20.

Your opinion is flawed, because he isnt, and hasnt been for the last 4 years. On the loan, this is from Ferguson in a press conference, so your assumption is wrong.

Problem is Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Cleverley are all tailor made to play in a 3 man midfield. But we rely on Wingers and play 4-4-2 and ask CMs to do something that they are not.

and yet he nearly quit because he wasnt breaking through, which you conviently ignored becuase he mentioned god. perhaps you should get your **** straight

Not sure why we are asking Fletcher to any apart from break up play, that is what he is best at, break play, move short accurate passes. Its a knock on from the more attacking CM not dictating play. TC can play in a 2 man midfield. Ando and Carrick cant, well not well anyway

Well, sunil just said there's more to it than just a 'bad loan spell' so I'm once more not sure what I'm arguing against. On Fletcher, you won't convince me by just sayind 'he's good, period'. I honestly think he should be replaced by a better, more complete player.

Maybe, can't really argue with that.

Playing 15 games out of 17 sounds quite a lot like breaking through to me...

88 born which means he was 21 in 2009.

And Macheda just turned 20, when Hernandez just turned just 20 he played grand total of 11 games for a Mexican side. And he himself mentioned he was in reserves and was thinking of quitting game.

Plz..

Yes, lets spend money on an area we dont need to spend, when actually we need a creative CM. I dont care about convincing you tbh, ive been watching him for years, good and bad. I know well enough what he does for the side

June 88 which mean he was 20 in the first half of 2009. Fail much?

Yeah, we need to find a way to use our CMs in a better way. Fletcher's work rate, Carrick's positional play and spraying ability, Anderson/Cleverley playing bit further up will be good to watch. Hopefully against big teams we try this.

Well, stick to your Fletcher, it's not your call nor mine anyways, but there are players out there that would be much better suited to your game than Fletcher.

Flether was at his best when we asked him to be a guard dog in front of the back four, protecting scholes and letting him to the creative work. But thats because he could dictate play. Because he isnt, we are asking him to do a role he isnt quite suited to. A double pivot only works when both players are pretty creative.
