The Manchester United Thread

Need the crazy arsenal performance for any chance to match the goal difference now.

And we need QPR to not be torn apart like they were at Chelsea. If our players & Fergie are up for it, we can thrash Swansea and Sunderland...but it'll mean nothing if City beat QPR by 2 goals or more.

Only thing i worry about is the crowd will be flat and could affect players, but agree we could totally smash swansea!

Think it's over now, Swansea won't roll over as easily as some of you think

They don't need to roll over, our lot just need to be motivated & show no mercy. Don't forget, Swansea looked like they were going to destroy Wolves last week, yet they ended up throwing away a 4-1 lead.

So is it allowed if a team scores own goals on purpose?
Wes Brown plays for Sunderland :$

Hernandez is starting to tick me off now, that's 2 or 3 he should've scored now.

Could we really make a deal? He could easily score at least 10? If they release him from Sunderland we will take him? I would do that!

Well, if they've given up then I'm gonna have to throw in the towel myself. We did so well to get back on top but once we got there, we just threw it away...unbelievable.

I dont understand people! we are 19 points clear of 3rd place. Our major challengers over the last 2 decades are far far behind us. If we are in decline, what about the rest of the league? The transition hasnt been as smooth as we wouldve liked, but it hasnt been as bad as it couldve been. It hasnt been a fantastic season.. far from it. But it hasnt been disastrous either. 86 points is pretty decent in a league season. We have made mistakes. It cost us the league and cost us in Europe. But I think we'll learn from them I dont think we had the right youth/experience balance.. Maybe its easier in hindsight. De Gea, Jones, Welbeck, Clev all in their first seasons playing at this level with this amount of pressure. Smalling, Rafael, Evans are quite young too. Injuries to Fletch, Anderson, Clev for large parts of the season didnt help. Without VDS and Vidic, we have lacked leaders at the back. De Gea took some time to settle down. Its not making excuses for this season, just pointing out that there were problems which probably wouldnt be the case next season. We WILL sign a midfielder. the kids will learn from their mistakes. The defence will have more time to work together. The keeper has looked much better in the second half of the season. We have been alright going forward. But with Berba sidelined and Hernandez not having a good season (and Owen being Owen), we didnt have the options up top to mix it up either. We go with 4 strikers. If Berba leaves, we'll get someone else to take his place. Its alright really. It sucks that we didnt win the league. It'll be made worse by the fact that City will win it.. But I'm not really worried.

The fact of the matter is we have been pretty good this season with a pretty average Manchester United team considering recent teams we have had. But I think the biggest let down has been the midfield problem which Fergie could of sorted before this season.

Gary Neville made a very good point, if you look at successful sides in the past they all have a really good spine to their team for example:

Seamen - Adams - Viera

Cech - Terry - Essien

We have really lacked someone in the midfield who is a ball winner, that has cost us this season. Someone like a Tiote (example) or anyone of that type player.

We haven't had a pretty good season. I could deal with losing out to City in the league if we'd gone for a domestic cup or the Europa League, but we haven't set the world alight in any of the competitions. Injuries haven't helped, but we had a worse crisis last season & the season before that, yet we didn't do this bad. Sir Alex simply needs to sort out the midfield this summer or we'll fall further behind our rivals.

On a side note, Sir Alex and Phelan were watching some Crewe youngster the other day, Nick Powell I think his name was....is he any good?

I think he's their top scorer this season. Also Wenger and Redknapp are after him so he must be good.

Domestically the season has been OK. We have taken City to the wire, and a small chance we could win.

Injury wise, its already on record as the worst injury season since 1998.

A carling cup wouldn't make things much better.

Europe has been the major disappointment. We must sign two central mids, one aggressive holder, one regista.
