The Manchester United Thread

Tbh it's not just CM that's the problem. Evra showed last season that the FB area is a cause for concern too-made horrific mistakes and was out of position. And Rio isn't going to be playing every game, and Jones is still learning too. I think the squad is finally beginning to creak in a few areas, as some of the players are still young and learning and maybe feeling the pressure

Oh I agree about LB, but thats more about having a good centre back. Previously Ferdinand was quick enough to cover for Evra, and Evans was in good enough form. When they struggle, we get punished, because Evra is not tracking back as much. A left back is needed, but Smalling will replace Ferdinand, he will be a top class player.

Rio was out of this world from 2006-09. He was the best CB, so if he becomes anywhere near the player Rio was then the 10M spent on Smalling will be the best 10M we have spent.

I have no doubts about Smalling, Evans ability at all. If Jones can improve then we are all set in that dept as they can only become better player with games. Not to forget Keane who was superb for reserves.

Smalling has the game to be as good, when he has played his best games he has looked an played like Rio, going to be excellent, but we need more of that.

Shame Distin is isn't a few years younger, could've tried a bid for him. Apart from CB, can cover LB and was-sorry still is-very pacey. When he covered our LB last season, he caused havoc bombing down the left side. Surprised even me

I rate wooton, thorpe aswell our defence is one of best if not the best in league and will only get better imo.

Yeah he rarely had bad games, he has all the attributes to be very good CB. Rio from 2006-09 was just amazing, one of the best CB in the last 10-20 years. Not sure if he can become as good, I rate Rio very very highly. Also that partnership with Vida was just amazing, hopefully Smalling and Evans can replicate that. One positive thing about this partnership is both the CBs are very comfortable on the ball and can build attack from deep.

Yeah Wootton looked good when he played with reserves. A proper no nonsense CB who can even play as DM. I didn't forget Thorpe, just that he is few good years away from being ready for first team. Shame about his injuries. But have to say Keane is stand out or improved significantly in last 1-2 years.

Im not going to lye, am little worried we not signed CM YET but still time i think fergie will have something up his sleeve!

I can only hope Fergie eventually buys someone like Martinez, Erikson or Witsel. It just seems like CM to Fergie are like CF to Del Bosque.

Still hoping Ferguson has a few transfer behind the scene. Really really hope he has.
If not we'll be relying on Anderson, Carrick and Cleverley to be at their best and not get injured. Least we know we'll have goals galore up front.

Guys, I wanna ask you a question.Sorry if you already discussed this, I'm kinda' new to this thread.Ok, here we go.
Which do you think are the 3 main reasons that cost us the title last season ?
IMO are these:

1.Our home form.We just wasted to many points at Old Trafford, which is unusual and unacceptable for a club like Manchester United.
2010/2011 season: 18 wins, 1 draw home
2011/2012 season: 15 wins, 2 draws, 2 games lost home
City's 2011/2012 season:18 wins, 1 draw home, which is exactly what we did 2 years ago.
If we manage to fix this, we have a very good change to win the title again.

2.Injuries.Don't need to explain this, everybody knows how many injuries we had last season.Vidic missed almost all the season, Fletcher same, Cleverley same, Anderson same.Valencia, Young, Nani also had problems and the list can go on.Unfortunately, we can't control that.

3.The end of the season.Everybody knows that the end of the season is the time when we keep our cool and finish the job in style.I don't know why, but last season was different. We had 8 points before our match against City at Etihad, and we ended up with only 3 ? And this because we lost at WIGAN where we had an amazing record, and we manage to draw 4-4 with Everton, at Olt Trafford, after we had 4-2 in the 82 minute ?

This can or can't be our year.Fergie just needs to find the right solutions to our problems. The centre miedfielder is also one, if Carrick gets injured this season, it's game over for us not only in the Premier League, but in the UCL also.

We did everything alright till the 80th min of Everton game. We coped with Injuries, losses against Blackburn, City and all that, and then we were 4-2 up and ****** it up.

Would love to see a CM signed before the Everton game next Monday but its looking less likely.
Sahin is practically out the door at Madrid. Moutinho,M'Vila or Fellaini would all be good additions aswell.

Sir Alex ready to increase off for RVP

Sir Alex Ferguson is set to up his bid for Robin van Persie to £20m in an attempt to push through a deal before the start of the season. The United manager has been at a deadlock with Arsenal over his move for the want-away striker, so far tabling an offer of £15m. He hoped that would be enough to prise the Dutchman away from the Emirates Stadium given that he is out of contract at the end of the season. But Ferguson is aware that Arsene Wenger does not want to sell to a Premier League rival and would much rather do business with Juventus. United are still banking on the belief that van Persie has set his heart on a switch to Old Trafford. They have become frustrated with Arsenal’s negotiating tactics this summer, but believe an increased bid of £20m will be enough to convince them to sell.

MEM = BULLSHIT!

If we sign RVP noway are we going for a Cm/lb which means i am gonna be **** ******.

Read that Utd's shares has dropped to less than $5 a share. Valuing the club at £800 Million apparently. \

On a football note I can see Utd failing in Europe again this year, and City going much further in competition.

Good, that will cause all sorts of trouble for the Glazers.

Agree about United if we pick up any sort of injury to Carrick, but less about City. Mancini is notably average in the Champions League.

800m? thought they leveraged the club for over a bil when they originally bought it. And yes, sooner they sell up the better, or get forced to, before they get any brand damage.
