The Manchester United Thread

Hope you don't think I am sounding bitter mate. Its just that paying 24m pounds for an injury-prone striker who is 28 and has a grand total of one great season at the top level is a bad investment. Thats the way Chelsea do business lol

Also before people jump on me and say that the 24m pounds may not be the correct figure, think about it. Why would Arsenal want to sell their best player to a rival club in the same league unless they were offered a premium value for him

Because RVP wanted to go, and had his heart set on United.

We only didn't have a problem scoring goals because of Rooney's form. We'd have problems playing at all without Rooney, now it's likely we'll never start a game without at least 1 of Rooney and RVP. As I said before, it's about depth rather than fitting them all into one line-up. I also sincerely doubt anyone would be mentioning his injury history going into this season if he was still at Arsenal, everyone would be expecting the same of him this season.

RVP is world-class no doubt. Would be interesting to see if Fergie manages to intergrate both RVP and Rooney into the team. Would definitely be a quality partnership consisting of the two best strikers in the EPL

Also I agree that Arsenal had to sell him. I was thinking more along the lines of -- Arsenal would prefer to sell RVP to Juve rather than Man Utd if both offered the same amount of money. Obviously Man Utd needed to offer a premium in order to get him.

It also appears as if RVP rejected Juventus and forced his way to Man Utd. Apparently Wenger said something along those lines. Like he was very keen on coming to Man Utd

I see what you mean : )

would you not prefer to come to Utd over Juve especially as you are based in England already.. quite an easy move for him and the family no doubt in comparison to Italy..

I am not surprised he did, he has the power to accept/reject the contracts, so the power is in his hands more so than the clubs...

Apparently Gill said he wants to offload Macheda, Berba and Bebe and bring in one more player. Hopefully a CM, but I wouldn't complain at a LB either.

Bebe looked good in pre-season, especially after his ligament damage.. I love Berbie and would be sad to see him go but as a football lover, he needs to leave, **** he should have left last year already..

he needs to go to Juve, Italian footie would suit him perfectly and prolong his career more so than staying in the EPL

I would personally like to see the sale of bebe anderson and berba to bring in a quality cm. Cleverley is going to be brilliant and showing them signs but we still need another creative midfielder. Personally rate moutinho as a top player and would like to see us sign the dm from River Plate. Looks a great prospect. Think his name was Ezeequiel Ciri something

Still though.. It does not mean Arsenal will accept anything lower than 20-25m pounds for him to move

I understand your point on depth. But surely the ability of both RVP/Rooney dictate that Fergie find some way to put them both into the team. Also its not about whether people talk about it or not.. You can't deny its a major worry

Look RVP is a quality player. I don't have anything against him. I would have loved him at Chelsea. My main point of gripe is that United are spending money on areas where it is not needed. They have enough quality strikers to cover for Rooney. Even if that was a worry.. Surely there are better options availiable to provide depth than RVP

Anyone else pretty much excited that Fletch is on way back to a comeback?

Ferguson is not god. He can make mistakes as well. If everytime United make a signing and all we are expected to say is Dont' worry people, Ferguson knows what he is doing.. then what is the point of having a football forum

RVP is not a bad signing... Its more about how that money could have been spent to actually bring in a player who solves a need in the squad. Think its called Opportunity Cost or something. Don't know... Joel will probably know the right term :P

He's not God. But he's certainly one of the best if not THE best manager ever, and gets it right a lot more than wrong.

He obviously believes that Powell and Cleverley will be able to make the step up soon enough, and that Scholes and Giggs etc will be able to carry on for at least another season playing at the highest level.

RVP, Rooney and Kagawa would fit well into a fluid 4-3-3 similar to when Tevez and Ronaldo were at the club, Fergie usually keeps up with the tactical trends and can see him using his own variation of that formation.

I think its a great buy, will help United to stop winning 1-0 like so many times last season and be able to win by more convincing scorelines, and might actually bridge the gap with Man City.

never seen him play before, but good player on Fm, nice potential!

I would loved to have gotten Javi Martinez, but not for the price Bayern paid!

Anyone know how much Moutinho has been rated at?

Will be sponsorship meeting/announcement at 1 at old trafford, unvielling bwin sponsership who also sponsor real madrid. And RVP medical due between 2-3:30 SSN.

Fair enough... We will agree to disagree then

Well Telegraph are saying 15m up front, 7m add-ons, + 1.5m if United win the CL in next 4 years.

United will likely go back to 2006-2009, which doesn't require a truly creative CM, but it will require Anderson keeping form, or another busy CM.
