The Manchester United Thread

Welbeck had to hold up the ball properly to give a chance for the other players to push up, used his pace well and generally did all that well alongside man marking Alonso. If Rooney had done the same it would have been said to be an influential performance. I did feel he could have done more with a couple of chances though.

Who knows maybe at 11v11 we still might have lost but at least there wouldn't be such a horrible feeling of injustice about it then.

What a game have to say. As a Liverpool fan im obviously glad Real won, but Nani's red card...LOL!

My stream lagged just after the tackle, and came back when the ref was holding the red card, and I thought I must have missed something. Was such a poor decision I was actually laughing.

After that, I strangely found myself wanting United to win. Fantastic goal by Modric though

Meh, no one will talk about Higuain's disallowed goal because Ramos jumped higher than RVP. Nor will they talk about Rafael's handball.

This is also the first time I have seen Varane play, and I have to say, What a player! How is it fair he is younger than me?!

Made some superb blocks and tackles.

For RVP, see Rooney last three seasons, and then Ronaldo the 3 before that, and RVN before that and so on. Youve been watching them for even longer than I have so I dont need to tell you about out focal points. We dont look like it, but that's exactly what we have been doing, we've just conceded more goals than usual in the process, for one reason or another.

You are jumping from one extreme to another. We are playing well, we are in form, we are in better form than Madrid. If both teams were to meet right now on current form this season, i'd make United favourites.

RVP is ripping teams up because of the players behind him. He's certainly not doing it completely on his own. To say that does an extreme disservice to the rest of the squad.

Its not all about domination, its about effectiveness, and right now we are seriously effective. Top 3 in possession, joint top most accurate passers and one of the highest shooting accuracy ratio's.
You were right until red card for Nani!

Rules of the game says deliberate hand ball, was it deliberate? And if you say that was a penalty, then twice the ball HIT a real arm in the area so why aren't you claiming there should have been two United penalties? And Ramos impeded RVP's jump who was the player who actually got the ball.

While that's true, both of those came after Nani was sent off?

What people are trying to say is that Real were kept quiet when it was 11v11 and it was looking difficult for them to get back into it, notice Mourinho was about to bring on Benzema, which would have left more room at the back. You need to look at what happened -after- the card as seperate, as you could argue it wouldn't have come about if space was closed down and the Madrid DMs wern't left to roam.

I obviouslu wanted Real to go through, being portuguese, that said, Nani's sending off tainted the game, we won't know how it could have been, maybe Real would score, maybe Utd would, maybe no one would. Fact is, Spanish federation has power in UEFA, DOUBTS? Or call me a conspirational nutty? ;)

IMO it was a red/yellow as it was a studs up and high foot. However as it wasn't a tackle and there was no intent if the referee had had more time he would have given a yellow. Also the angle of the referee of the challenge was unlucky for man Utd. However it was dangerous play and the rules say that it was a red card. If I was the ref I'd have given a yellow. But I agree with his decision.
Man Utd deserved to win though. I was backing them throughout the match.

I did think it was a very harsh decision, but looking back at it, you can understand what Keane is saying in the post match analysis

It was completely accidental, but he ended up kicking him in his chest, studs showing

and by the rules that is dangerous play... Personally a yellow would have sufficed BUT can see why. Dont change the fact i would be ****** if i was a United fan.

The Ramos incident was in the first half, and the Rafael was after the sending off.

Don't get me wrong, it was a ridiculous decision to send Nani off.

The disallowed goal was before Ramos of and nani red card

Retired referee Dermot Gallagher on BBC Radio 5 live: "[The decision was] harsh to say the least but in fairness the Real player did Nani no favours whatsoever. At worst Nani catches the underside of his arm, certainly not the ribs as the guy has gone down and shown.
"I can't reiterate enough that he [Nani] is watching the ball over his shoulder, there was no malice in him. At worst it was a yellow for dangerous play, but if I was refereeing that game I cannot se what stretch of the imagination where I would have sent him off for that."

Be interesting to see how Milan are going to get screwed over next week.

So basically former referees are supporting Nani and Real coach Mourinho is embarrassed to win like that, and said the best team lost?

Yeah.
