The Manchester United Thread

No, United will pay £15m, but upto £3m more could be on tax. As that is his clause, but we have to deal with tax laws.

Eh? The fee is agreed because it's his release clause. It's already been confirmed by Barcelona. It's the only reason we are even in a position to move as it was previously 90m. So doubt is irrelevant. They cannot block the activation of his clause. He also said he wants to play consistently. Leaving and loving Barcelona are not mutually exclusive.

Barca confirmed that fee is agreed? Could you give a link to it?
And that clause only works for Spanish clubs, as far as I know, I couls be wrong, but there are few atricles explaining how it works for non spanish clubs. I could be wrong. His saying 'i love Barcelona' is better telling than most ITK's tweets we're reading.

Vidic hasnt signed a new contract and has a year left, which is worrying. If we sign Garay then that could be his replacement.

Jones has already stated that his long term role is centreback, in an interview 6 weeks ago.

Oh, ok. But still, no backup for Carrick is bad.

i think the clause work like thay do in fm if some1 has a buy out of 15m thats what you pay dont think it matter where your from cos that what city did with aguero

You're wrong. City payed 35m+ VAT for him. There was an issue with him, I cannot recall correctly who else made a bid for him season before, but his clause was 50m. I think it's Chelsea. At. Madirid didn't want to sell him, so Chelsea had to pay 50m + 44% of that amount. I'll try to find a link later on.

No Rosell confirmed his clause. I've already explained that. Outside of spain you have to pay tax on the clause, that's the difference. Hence the £3m

A clause means they dont have to negotiate with Barcelona, thats why there is no doubt about the fee. Barcelona cannot stop it, they can only convince him to stay. He loves Barcelona does not stop him from moving from Barcelona. That said, if Barcelona had handled this better we wouldn't even be in this position, we should never have stood a chance to sign him

I dont know what ITK tweets you've been reading so I cant say on that, but I've been following journalists like James Ducker and Sid Lowe

Aguero was part owned by someone else IIRC.

Atletico's claims about bids for Sergio Aguero don't ring true - Sid Lowe - SI.com

Written by Sid Lowe. Clauses only work for Spanish clubs. For non-spanish clubs clauses are little different.

And I don't care about clauses, I just want him to sign. But he said that he loves Barcelona in this delicate time in his carrier. That tells me that he wants to stay and will be staying.
Saying he said that just cuz he wants to calm Barca fans is muppetry at it's best. ( I didn't say you said it, before you jump to that conclusion).

EDIT: That article only applies if Barca doesn't want to be fair towards Thiago, if he really wants to leave.

That means one of two things, both of which increase the price. Firstly, it can mean adding the VAT at 18 percent. In the past, clubs have agreed to include VAT in the invoice for a player's transfer (which of course can be claimed back from the state).

This is what I was saying about the tax.
He would be staying for sure, if they had made sure to play him and tell him he was a big part.

Villanova didnt even know about the release clause. Rosell didnt even bother to tell him.

Well, yes. But Barcelona could make this harder for Man United. If they want to act like (insert insulting word here) and ignore Thiago's wishes. Anything can happen.

It's Moyesey's first presser on Friday, so hoping we're gonna have something to announce for then.

Ignoring Thiago's wishes, the same way United have done Rooney's? :)

Well, if Thiago has same wishes Rooney had, he'll sign big fat contract then.

I hope so too. Even if he says we're in for some midfielders, that could be enough for more muppetry ^^)

My point was that it's a bit hypocritical to criticise Barca for ignoring poor ickle Thiago's wishes and breaking his heart (only cause he wants to go to United) and yet United basically ignored Rooney's alleged wish to leave United too. Though, admittedly, I was being a bit facetious.

I wasn't hypocritical because no one asked me what I think about Rooney situation. If he really wanted to leave, I doubt he would sign new contract. But If any player want to leave, then let them go. Footballers aren't slaves.

That's ridiculous. Footballers most definitely aren't slaves, since they're paid to do their job. Moreover, they're paid and ON A CONTRACT. They signed that contract, they should be prepared to see it out.

Oh god. Ok. Right. How to put this? It was metaphor. If they want to quit, let them quit. There's nothing worse than unhappy worker. Chill GD.

Yeah, I get the point of view, I just don't agree with it. Player power is going too far nowadays, and I think clubs holding on to players who want to leave for their own selfishness should be applauded really. One thing that is worse than an unhappy worker is letting them go for peanuts.

Dunno if you ever had to work for somebody you don't like. If you have, then you know it's pain in the ***. Different things selling player whos first team player but unhappy and selling player cuz you want to sell player you don't necessarily need. Take a look at Luka Modric. He was unhappy, but he wasn't sold for peanuts. I see your point, and I strongly disagree with you.

Different cases though innit? Did you sign a contract on huge wages to work for 3 years for the man? If you did, then frankly I have little sympathy. If footballers don't want to be tied down, they shouldn't sign onto 5 year contracts.

Modric was not sold for peanuts, which is exactly my point. Daniel Levy was strong and refused to be swayed by Modric's whining. He got his move eventually, but it was on Spurs' terms, after they had made it clear they were willing to just keep playing him for the remainder of the fat four year contract he'd signed a few months prior to getting ants in his pants about a move. Take, on the other hand, someone like Ashley Cole, who left Arsenal for a pathetic 5 mil plus a sulky Frenchman. THAT is what ****** me off.

Player is payed weekly-monthly. Not yearly. Lets say you sing 3 y contract. After 2 years you want out. Why wouldn't I let you go if you really want to leave? Yes, I can be ***** and reject every offer for you, because I can. But if you get fair offer, why not? I would say players need to understand that. If clubs doesn't get fair offer for you, then they shouldn't sell.
There's another example, RVP. He wanted to leave, Arsenal got good money for him. If player is acting like a *****, slacking in matches/training just because he wants to leave without club having fair offer for him, then you pull out discipline measures. Take a look at Tevez. He wanted to leave City for half a year ( maybe even more), and that affected them badly.
