The Manchester United Thread

Agreed. For the first time in over two decades your safety net is gone. Good as Moyes is, you NEED to invest this time round.

Only hope is Moyes think CM is the most important position on the field (going by some article about Moyes) and we are bidding for a CM.

Hopefully we sign someone who is a improvement on our midfield, saying that he can just go and sign any CM and that will be improvement lol.

I'm gutted Madrid snapped up Illarramendi. He would've been so perfect for United.

Third player?

I'm guessing he's including Strootman too.

Yeah but the price was way too much. Also once Madrid are interested then you don't really stand chance.

Reports are that Moyes wasn't convinced about him so dropped our interest. Not sure how to feel as I rarely watched him play.

He's not top tier, but would have been better value than say Fellaini. Would have been perfect to replace Fletcher with, assuming the worst with him.

38 Million? That's way too much for a DM.

Well i thought same when Bayern signed Martinez but it looks bargain now.

£35m is better value than Fellaini? Fellaini's release clause is £23m, surely he is better value?

Many papers have reported sell on clause but Barca would be stupid to agree that sort of clause. My guess is 50% of any profit Barca makes on the transfer, so anything over 35 Million.

English papers have reported 50% sell on clause which I believe is wrong.

1. First option 2. 50% profit on anything over 30m or so which they initially paid us. 3. Buy back clause of 30m or so also.

Yeah that's what I said. 50% on the profit made. 1 and 3 are of no use if he doesn't want to come back though.

why do people keep mentioning the "FIRST OPTION" clause, it means nothing at all... they have to match the highest bidder. at the end it is still fabregas's decision where he goes. plus the buy back clause makes no sense seeing as they signed him for around 35 million

I honestly think there must be more to this to make United think they actually have some kind of hope signing Fabregas. However if we are paying big buck for a CM which seems to be the case I don't see why not just try and get Marchisio or even Vidal.

The point of it is to inform of another bid. And then we'd only need to activate buy back clause which is lower than what any serious offer would be.

35m includes performance bonuses etc which haven't been activated yet. They also paid the initial amount ( 25-30m) in installments of which they still owe us considerably.

Fabregas still makes the decision ultimately, Arsenal actually have to be willing to pay whatever they have to as well... considering this is Arsenal we are talking about I am not even 100% convinced that would happen.

Yeap just as I replied to sunilvk7

Strootman, not Illlaramendi. The latter will make himself known as a top tier player.

Afellay's returned from loan, Sergi Roberto's coming up from the reserves on a permanent basis, Cuenca will get more game time, they want to keep Tello, and of course Neymar's joined. I wouldn't bet on it.
I'll blame you if we don't sign Fabregas now. You have me hope.

Let's be honest, our midfield is lost case.
