The Manchester United Thread

wow some of you need to get a grip

Yeah rite, cos really we ve been playing with real passion and fire, imagination and an obvious tactical plan (supported by helpful/obvious substitutions) and the only reason we cant win even against patently worse squads/teams is that we are unlucky!

I actually happen to think that these "get a grip" type of calls are what will harm us most ultimately. Cos in the current climate where a lot of teams around us are improving/showing real guts it wont take long to become Liverpool!! (and yes I know where they currently are in the standings!).

Our squad does need improving but we ARE much better than what we ve been showing since MOYES came so it has to be him and his conservativism/fear of any risk taking.

Should of been Klopp, not Moyes.... just imagine what he could of done with this squad. Would of been **** a lot better to watch. even if the results were as bad currently.

Moyes is negative, subs are random (make no logical sense to anyone), he tries to hold out for a 1-0 win against Southampton. It's just ridiculous.... WHY DID WE GET A MANAGER JUST BECAUSE HES DONE PRETTY WELL WITH EVERTON (NO OFFENCE) AND HE IS SCOTTISH.

He is not giving game time to Kagawa or Chicharito or Zaha, but somehow Giggs makes it to field yesterday! Bravo!

He's pretty much got to Christmas I reckon to push us up near a top 4 place or else he'll be gone. No way on earth a team like United can not be in the top 4 at the end of the season.

Oh and then the changes he naively made to the coaching staff.... and the remarks he has made in the media only to look like a fool. (Transfer window, saying we can't win Champions League and then backtracking, etc).

At last! Somebody talking a LOT of sense about our not so gradual deconstruction ...

Good to see it took a grand total of 8 games to become everything United fans have routinely mocked for years and some.

Not really, my post clearly mentions that I didn't think Moyes was right from the start. Adding on to that sentiment is just icing on the cake, considering he's doing so badly.

You know its got nothing to do with not wanting to play for England right? Its just about playing for Albania, he doesnt want to play for Belgium either, has refused all their youth call ups.
I thought he wanted to play for Kosovo but they arn't considered a nation by fifa yet so that's why he's holding out - or something along those lines. Surely if he wanted to play for Albania he would have done so by now?

Also the moaning about Giggs is ridiculous imo, still a brilliant player. Played well when he came on yesterday I thought.

And with the subs, the only one i'm not convinced by was Welbeck for Nani, should have been Kagawa for Januzaj. The other 2 were good decisions, Fellaini was having a mare and was unable to carry the ball forward from midfield so Giggs came on, and taking off an exhausted Rooney for a CB when you're 1-0 up with 5 minutes to go, don't see what's wrong with that at all.

The problem is how many games had we actually played well this season. I know it's only been 8 games in, but had we actually been good in any of the games? 4-1 Swansea is the closest of us being good, but that was actually a flattering scoreline considering how badly we were outplayed in the midfield that game. Our 2-1 win over Sunderland last game were scrappy, and we certainly could do a lot better against a team that only picked up a point thus far. Our Crystal Palace win? The game in which we played against 10 men for 45 minutes?

At least when Rodger had just taken over Liverpool the fans had something to cling onto - their team plays decent football. Our football is as dull as it gets. Even Southampton were playing a way more attractive football than us at our home. Despite the defensive style of football Moyes employs, only 6 teams in the league conceded more goals than us. Furthermore, we currently have the worst discipline in the league, receiving a grand total of 19 yellow cards.

The pressure is on Moyes now. He had not impressed me in any way since he took over. A complete overhaul of the backroom staff, the fiasco of a transfer window, the horrendous start to the league, the thrashing by our city rivals, the inability to pick up points at home, the way he dismissed our squad for not being good enough to win CL, the bad football on display, the baffling team selection and substitutions.... The only decent thing he had done thus far is playing Januzaj.

United fans aren't special, contrary to what a few of the more smug United fans have been saying. It's just that you've had no reason to sack your manager for a quarter of a decade, and now there is, everyone's seeing the regular reaction of a common football fan.

I'm sorry, we had this problems during SAF as well. We all knew we deal poorly with high pressing sides who are aggressive and play one touch football. We just don't have players to deal with that kind of style. Starting from our strikers and midfielders, only few could actually counter it. Difference is - there's no longer SAF. He was a huge factor for both our players and opponent. Only thing I think Moyes should done better is our transfer window. And now, with pretty much the same squad as Alex had, we have to play against stronger teams than Alex played last season, season before that... Moyes needs time, he doesn't need 'lets sack him because he didn't start like we wanted'. If you love the club, then support your manager and hope, believe he can and he will bring success to the club.

Someone needs to explain me when will kagawa be played ??? I mean there is no reason for him to be sitting on the bench and watching us every week.I have no idea what moyes wants to do to kagawa other than selling him.The subs last night were so random that it made no sense.Moyes will start to feel the pressure real soon if things dont change. And lastly the players ****** need to stand up and fight for the club .I would happily take a top 4 this season because we wont win the league with this team and jan i dont think we will find many great players to buy.

I wouldn't say there has been much of a reaction from the actual match going fans. No boo's at full time yesterday and team clapped off - imagine if that had been Arsenal for example.

Not yet. Arsenal have endured half a decade of near misses and frustration from their team, United fans only 8 games. Give it time.

True, but it isn't just the overall fanbase changing, it is the smug individuals from before who are losing their rag with it.

Not really, my post clearly mentions that I didn't think Moyes was right from the start. Adding on to that sentiment is just icing on the cake, considering he's doing so badly.

What does it have to do with anything whether you wanted him or not? You support the club, not the club with "insert X your choice of manager".

Sure, the fanbase hasn't changed because they're pretty much identical to every other fanbase (and since you're such a big club, in some facets quite a bit worse). Bad individuals ruin it for everyone else, I just find it amusing how quickly the self-satisfied "we give managers time!" thing has crumbled as soon as you hit a bad run under someone who isn't Ferguson.

H
e doesn't want to do anything till he is settled club wise. And his father is pretty ****** at Albania putting pressure on. United have never looked like keeping a clean sheet, so going defensive is a bad call.

I think Moyes is a fantastic manager, and has done very well during his tenure at Everton, however I think Manchester United as a club is much much bigger, the money is bigger the fan base bigger, the players names and reputations and the expectations are all so much bigger than Moyes, as a manager has ever experienced. Here in lies the problem.

Moyes didn't win much of the big games he managed at Everton, He hasn't won any trophy's at Everton and he didn't have much pressure on him at Everton but none the less he did a fantastic job there with the small budget he had at the club but because of that he couldn't go into every game with an attacking mentality and expect to win. He only had a few great players at Everton so he didn't have to pick and choose. He had to be defensive and play (no offence anyone) what could be considered by United fans as boring football(which is what is we are playing). He had to play the players he had, when winning bring on defensive players etc.. but now he is at United everything for him has changed.

He has huge amounts of Money available to him now and is practically spoiled for choice, yet he just could not compete with other clubs for the big names as he has no experience in doing so. We were **** lucky to get Fellaini for christ sake as it was only Moyes' relationship with him that made the deal. He has so many "massive" names in his squad that he doesn't know how to use them without alienating others. His tactics are bland and don't work. Some of his decisions vary from head scathing to infuriating. Has players like Kagawa and Chicarito but insists on playing Young and Welbeck, the first being in absolute **** form (although some would say **** form others would say he is just plain ****) and not playing Zaha who had a good pre-season.

Moyes is a fantastic manager, brilliant really, and I want him at the club but at the same time I am truly worried that the players he is leaving out, mainly Chica Zaha & Kagawa. They may end up wanting to leave for first team footy(which I can't blame them for) and if they do I am going to be truly ****** of as they are fantastic and don't want them leaving because of poor managing and would rather get rid of Moyes than see the backs of those 3 plus others.

I beleive the overhaul of the backroom staff was a poor decision. To me it seems he got staff who do not fit in at all in United's style and chose to bring in people he knew rather than those who were best for the job(best example is getting rid of Rene Meulensteen, one of the best coaches in the world).

The thing is that he has been at Everton for over a decade, and he has based his managerial style on Everton but Manchester United's structure is completely different to Everton's in almost every way and it is going to take Moyes a long time to become accustomed to United and how we work. He is not getting the results/tactical decisions/personnel decisions right now, in time though he surely will. The question is will he be able to hold on to the job long enough to become as good as he can or will the media and fan pressure force him out before he reaches his full potential at the club?

(Disclaimer;- This is just my personal opinion and some may agree with it, others won't , others may agree with some parts but not others. I just want it to be said this is just an opinion and It may be wrong and if you think so that is fine, but I don't mean any offence to Everton, Moyes or anyone's opinion that may differ to mine :D)

See... this is the thing like you mentioned. I really want to try and like Moyes, but then he makes a stupid decision in a game or in a press conference... or whatever situation it may be.

Basically what I'm trying to say is he's doing the simple things wrong at the moment. WE'RE IN FOR FABREGAS.... YES WE ARE... OHHHH YES WE ARE. (Egg on face).
