The Manchester United Thread

SAF has now released his book and by the snippet I below it is going to be one **** of a fiery read that I will be downloading.

Sir Alex Ferguson says Roy Keane had lost the respect of his team-mates when he was forced out of Manchester United.

The former manager has used his new autobiography to claim Keane, now a pundit, "thought he was Peter Pan" by the time the pair fell out in 2005 and that his departure "was the best thing that could have happened" to United.

The book, due to be published on Thursday, does not spare Wayne Rooney - "not the quickest learner" - or David Beckham and confirms Ferguson was twice offered the England job as the recently retired Scot settles some old scores.

His animosity towards Keane has shown no sign of subsiding in the eight years since their row erupted.

Their relationship began to fracture as the midfielder became increasingly outspoken about his team-mates and finally broke down when he gave an explosive interview to the club's TV channel.

The MUTV interview has never been aired but Ferguson claims Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes and Ruud van Nistelrooy were among the players who walked out when shown it privately.

The 71-year-old recalls Keane and Van Nistelrooy having to be pulled apart in a separate incident: "His [Keane's] eyes started to narrow, almost to wee black beads. It was frightening to watch, and I'm from Glasgow."

But after the MUTV interview, Ferguson says he could not get Keane out quickly enough. He told assistant, Carlos Quieroz, at the time: "He needs to go, Carlos. 100 per cent. Get rid of him."

This is my single biggest worry, far more than the creative mid we need. Replacing that level of leadership is very hard. Which is why I was furious about Herrera, as he is noted for having have that ability ( as well as being a bit of a filthy tackler ;) )

If it's any consolation, Herrera's been a bit average this year. Fabregas, on the other hand...

Martino is playing him the way he should be, and its terrifying. Martino is more of a pragmatist, and will trade possession for directness when its needed, and its exactly what Fab needed.

I said in this here thread right after the closing of the Summer window that I wasnt convinced about Herrera who only had one good season (2 years ago).

Anyway, very glad to see FLETCH returning to training! I absolutely love him for his commitment and big game mentality and to be frank I thought he'd never return. So there's hope!

I'm pretty sure Herrera was very good at Zaragoza a few years ago, although I can't remember exactly how good he was.

Thats exactly what I said! He had one excellent season 2 years ago with Athletic Bilbao (not Zaragoza!) but since then nada.

Yes, I know he had an excellent season with Bilbao, but he played for Zaragoza beforehand - and I'm pretty sure he was very good then, too.

Here we ******* go again...**** defending yet again, great first save by De Gea though really.

Dug in deep to a side that is always a tough nut to crack.Nani was **** poor.Rooney,Kagawa need to be playing every match right now.We need to start a win run now to get the momentum before the Jan window and hope to get some players .Defenders were horrible in first half.

To be honest, I still think United'll pull through and finish Top 4 this season, even though they've been **** poor so far this season (bar a few games, perhaps)...

Everyone thinks this, Utd always finish strongly, Liverpool and Arsenal have difficult games ahead, and Chelsea and City play today. The important thing is Moyes stabalises the gaps in the squad in January, and perhaps finally gets the mobile midfielder the team seems to cry out for.

Actually, a surprising amount of fans I've spoken to think United won't finish in the Top 4 - for me, the fact that the matter's up for debate is laughable.

As much as I like Kagawa, he simply doesn't fit in this United team. He's not a winger, nor we are trying to play him as one. He does start fair amount od games on left side both for club and Japan, but he's not as effective as he is in the middle. People seems to overrarte Kagawa so much. He is brilliant player, but he's not playmaker like Oezil, he's not goal scoring threat like Mueller. He's perfect transition player. If we tend to play counterattacking football, he's perfect. Possession football? He could work in 'the hole', but then where do we play Rooney? Up front? Ok, then what do we do with RVP? Bench him? Or sell one of them? Kagawa hasn't show why he should be playing every week. But constant winger rotations doesn't help too much with finding their form. I would love to see him start tommorrow, either on left or in the middle.

I also think Utd will get at least top four still this season haven't had the best of starts but you could say are starting to pull off Utd type wins in the last few weeks coming back from behind to beat both sunderland and stoke when they haven't played nowhere near their best. Top four will be the same four teams as last season IMO but way too early to tell what order yet.

You seem to have a thing for Germans.

Well, one od the reasons why SAF bought Kagawa here is to bring swiftness from Dortmund side. We do lack swift passes and swift movement, which Kagawa brings, but mention of those two Germans, ?zil and M?ller was on accident. I can give more examples, from BPL if someone wants them. Mata or Michu, Cazorla or Oscar, heck, even our own Wayne Rooney.

Kagawa not a goalscorer? He scored 21 in 49 at Dortmund. That's nearly a goal every other game, and those are striker figures. I'd say if anything he is most like Mueller.

EDIT: Though I agree in principle. He's probably going to be best fit in on the wings in this United team - or would've under Ferguson - since United like direct wingers.

Of course ha can score. He can assist as well. And he can dribble. He's not limited, but I would argue that he's nothing special in those segments od play, bar his goalscoring record. But he is one of the best when it comes to quick transition and finding the space to make himself available.

When talking about movement, I had a look at simple 1-2 Carrick and Rooney played when Begovic saved Rooneys shot. It unbelievable how funny did Stoke player looked when he lost Wayne. It wasn't even a quick turn from Rooney, Stoke defender just decided to stop and not follow him. Then I saw the run Kagawa was making between that Stoke player and fullback. Makes me wonder did defender stopped just to make pass to Kagawa unlikely? He does make intelligent moves from wider positions as well, just other playes are to static and then defenders are better focused on Kagawa. If this make sense.

I agree. I think it'll be Chelsea, United, City, Arsenal (in that order) I reckon - although the league's been so open this season that maybe Arsenal'll finish 1st/2nd and United 4th!
