The Manchester United Thread

Unfortunately I dont see that Moyes is capable of thinking outside the box and getting all those players mentioned - the most we ll get from them is Muric this January.

But Im worried we wont make it to the CL so no top shelf player will want to join us in Summer.

Moyes must talking out of his ****. Fair enough he has his targets in mind and so on, but there are loads of players out there atm that would improve us and help us get into the top 4 which is a must. Then he can get his targets in the summer.

There's no doubt United produce a lot of top youngsters, but can this be seen as an entirely positive thing? Perhaps most of these players wouldn't cut it for the current squad, but some of them do - so surely it can also be a sign of letting good players go? Pogba, Piqu? and Rossi are the foreign examples, whereas the likes of Shawcross, Brady and Morrison are domestic examples. I'm not trying to put down the achievement of having produced so many top players, I'm just interested on your/other people's take on this.

That's a positive thing. Not all young players we produce are good enough to play for us. What this says is even though they don't play for Manutd they will have a good career because of the education they get at United. It's something that is very very important and Fergie mentioned it so many times in his interviews. We take care of our young players and give them a good career options.

Shawcross wouldn't start at United, Brady could have been option as a converted LB but he is a good LW but not good enough for United. Morrison was sold for the reason that is mentioned hundred times already.

Pique couldn't break into the team as he had the best CB pair in the world at that time ahead of him and his club came calling. We signed Tevez on loan who helped us in winning CL and at that time we couldn't offer Rossi enough games (Which IMO is a big mistake). Pogba's was a big mistake though.

Are we talking about the same Mateo Kovacic that isn't getting in the Inter team? Has he been injured?

He is not getting games not because he is not good enough, because his manager doesn't trust youngsters. He was comfortably their best player (midfielder) last season and he is easily better on the ball than any of their midfielders.

How did SAF/the Glazers allow us to go from a team with Tevez Rooney Ronaldo and Scholesey in the mf (among others) to the sorry mess (Im talking to you: Buttner/Young/Valencia esp) that we are now?!

Indeed. Now we can blame Moyes for certain aspects. But lets face it, he should never had this much work to deal with.

Pre-Glazers we spent 12% of revenue on transfers. With them, 6%.

98-05 net transfer spend: ?129m
06-13 net transfer spend: ?153m

And how much have prices inflated in that time?

It's a perfect storm of SAF leaving, Gill leaving, Woodward's incompetence, injuries and Moyes' learning curve. All combined with arguably one of the worst squads in recent times.

Rooney/RVP > Rooney/Tevez. Ronaldo is irreplaceable and Scholes is Scholes, once in a generation player.

We have regressed without a doubt but you can't blame anyone for not replacing Ronaldo and Scholes with similar quality players.

The amount of revisionism done regarding Scholes ability in the game is staggering ... Yes he was a very very good player but not some once in a 1000 years playmaking genius that people are making him out to be now

Nonsense Alcaraz, that really is. he was an exceptional deep lying playmaker, before that he was a goalscoring/creating midfielder. He as a once in a generation player... like Pirlo or Xavi are. Have England churned out a player on Scholes' level yet since he arose in 1991?

Once in a generation player doesn't mean once in a lifetime player and btw you post is absolute non sense.

Scholes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lampard. Suck it and move on.

Agreed, but there is a lot of spare cash lying around, our own figures show that. Moyes doesn't just need time, he needs money too.

Coentrao, Di Maria, Ever Bangea, Kovacic is a FMesque wishful thinking but would be fantastic if we can buy at least 3 of them. It will be like summer of 2007 season.

I am not saying he wasn't a world-class player at one time ... Its just that some people have taken it way too far in recent years saying he is the best midfielder ever and what not. Some time ago, Michael *** tweeted an interesting observation that Scholes barely every received any votes whenever he was in the running for the Ballon D' Or

He was definitely a brilliant player no doubt but hardly the best midfielder ever. There are other great players who would be at the same level as him

And anyways I no one here said that of Scholes, I was just making a general post based on what I have seen other United fans tweet or post on other forums
