The Manchester United Thread

Yeh and as good a player Mata is.. he's not really strengthening our weaknesses. We need a CM and LB urgently, if United can splash that on Mata with Rooney/Januzaj/Kagawa all capable playing of the same position, then they can splash ?30m or whatever it would take for someone we desperately need in a CM position.

Plus Carrick out for roughly 3 weeks... we're near bare bones right now.

We tried for 2 LB of our required quality, one will cost 30m, the other isn't allowed to move.

We need a CM, LB, Wide/central high creativity/Rooney future proofing, CB,

We've ticked off one of those in the best way possible

We can hold off on the 2nd and 4th

The first, there isn't actually much scope when you consider the quality we need.

What Mata does do is a 4-2-3-1 where the 2 can be stable/hard working, while the 4 do the magic and full backs get forward for the width. Rooney and RVP are back to fitness, Mata means we can now not overwork them and hopefully push onto 4th. Then we can plough back into the market proper. But if you honestly thought we could fix every problem this window, you're being horribly unrealistic.

Being stupid now... how can you deny that with us splashing ?37m or whatever on a player we don't need (on paper) then how spending that or more on a player we do need.. such as a CM is suddenly absurd???

Because we sure as **** need a player capable of 20 goals and 35 assists right now. Mata is worth 37m. Is Cabaye?

I'm not complaining with Mata, my simple point is that for me.... our midfield is the biggest concern and needed addressing most importantly, I still want us to do it in this window, whether that means spending more for a really good player... then so be it.

And again. which really good player? and how much?

Cabaye or Marchisio.... I'd still put a big bid in for Pjanic, as I feel the quality they have there is very good.

Cabaye isn't worth more than 30m not a chance in ****, 25 max, and they already turned down 22.5m. Marchisio maybe 35m, and Juve would probably reject it, because they have their own issues are Pogba, and didn't buy Guarin. And Pjanic is not worth 30m, and they don't need to sell for anything less than that because of Spurs (ignoring the fact they love him, and he is key for them)

Prices would also be very very good. FOR selling clubs. You can't get Pjanic or Cabaye. End of.

Marchisio is very very slim chance and if you did get him you'd lose your slim chance of Vidal in summer.

They had to sign Guarin for us to have a chance, because they will almost certainly lose Pogba. I think if they keep him we can get marchisio. No other way otherwise.

Funny thing is I have seen a few rumours going round that we've contacted about Guarin.

I forgot to mention... given Valencia's troubles I'd defo have a punt on Banega, much different to what we have.... great player who is scarred because of his off-field events. He's a great player, come through some terrible injuries. Also we need someone who plays with a bit of attitude on the pitch.

Every one of us could name a key player we want, but we have to look at things with rationale. The kind of players we want, are the kind of players you just don't sell in January. I still cant get round the fact Mata is having his medical tomorrow. these players are ones you go crazy money on in the summer. We take what we can for now, keep the big guns fit, get 4th place, and rebuild. If we get 4th and DONT get those players zzeezzy, by all means pile into him/woodward then, because that's when he has to get to get right and should have had a year to set things up. Assuming the club back him with money, that is.

Yeah, that was before the whole Juve inter thing, we contacted them again after apparently. Not keen on his wages (current 2.3m a year net, so 4.6m a year is what he gets paid , and he wants a raise, hence why he was up for sale in the first place)

Guarin rumour gathering some pace. Seems that they want Hernandez.

Heh, he also did it with Torres upfront, he was kind of solution to Chelsea's striker woes for a bit. He can play second striker in 4-4-2 as well. I still am in denial about this deal, as a Chelsea fan.

Guess one positive I can take from Mata joining another English club is I will still get to watch my favourite player on a regular basis. I thk he will be a revelation at Utd and I hope to see him ripping the likes of city, arsenal, Liverpool, spurs etc apart! Just please don't come back to haunt you're old club Juan :)

The thing is, a pairing of Juan and Adnan on the wings will leave fullbacks exposed. Juan is an absolute machine of goals and assists when not asked to track back.

Actually, Januzaj tracks back decently. It's to his weakness that he loses his head frequently and picks up unnecessary bookings. But that's sure to slowly die out with time/maturity/experience.

With Mata, indeed that can be a mild cause for concern, however it's not hugely worrying. Rooney often commits to it, and should Mata play behind Van Persie, Valencia is likely to play on the right, and he does it well.
