The Manchester United Thread

That's I would set up just swap Blind and Herrera around. Then swap Rooney and Mata coz Mata is injured then have RVP up top.

Whoops, put them in the wrong positions! That's a ferocious lineup, my only question is whether your RB can handle it.

I think Rafa would be awesome at RB with his energy and attacking threat, and he is a great crosser of the ball. But we will play 3412.

People forget so easily how good Rafael is when he gets a run of games... repeat when... it's not so often.

Think it was the last season Fergie won PL he was phenomenal.

However if he doesn't start playing regular games again I expect him to be replaced sooner rather than later with a new RB because we can't keep using backup's like Valencia.

After the opening game i said that LvG's tactic won't work in the Premier, because there is too much workload on the Wing Back's, and the game is the PL is very physical, and focused on wide play. Young and Valencia are anything but Wing Back's. They lack certain defensive qualities, which results in dragging CB's out of position, in other words: You have to be Torres to not find space in that wide defence.
I must admit i am curious how Shaw and Rafael will handle the roles.

Just happy to have them fit again tbh.

Thats extremely surprising because Pelligerini obviously wanted him ... His wages perhaps?

The overall deal was just too good from Valencia apparently. They have to purchase him at the end of the loan its a hefty fee iirc.

Not sure how true or bad it is but apparently vidal is injured (knee) might of dodged a bullet if true.

Yes read the same thing. They saying he will need surgery to put it right and could be out for some time. Should not of played in WC!

Think strootman and falcao went the right way about recovering (i hope) have no idea why his manager or the doctors thought it was a good idea playing at the world cup on injections.

Agree mate. I have had problems with my knees over the years from years of sports such as tendonitis and minor cartalidge damage and on one knee OCD. Knees really are not to be messed with. My doctor always said injections just hide the pain not cure it. I hope he has not fecked up career on bad advice from his Coach/Manager.

I dont know why people gamble with knee injuries. go and have the ******* surgery.

Well, I can understand if its to stay with the team through big tournament or competition. Which it was in case of Vidal. Everybody thought they'd bust out of the group and they've made it to 1/4. No wonder Vidal wanted to keep playing.

Edit: I've just realized Suarez's doctor stopped his cancer treatment to help him get fit for world cup, and then Suarez's busted himself out of the tournament by biting Chielini. Christ on a bike...

A tad misleading considering all the u21 talent those clubs have (unregistered and uncounted) and the fact that that your squad is padded out with the likes of Ben Amos, Davide Petrucci and Marnick Vermijl.

Calling you the new Galaticos is ridiculous of course, but it's not as cut and dry as that awful article wants you to believe.

Forget the U21s who hardly plays, we have many players who play important role in the squad and are home grown.

1. Rafael.
2. Evans
3. Rooney
4. Smalling
5. Carrick
6. Young
7. Fletcher
8. Januzaj
9. Shaw
10. Blackett
11. James Wilson (promoted to first team)

There will be few youth players who will get few games for sure.

Not sure about other teams as I have not checked them, but 11 HG players after spending so much is impressiev and I didn't count players who will barely play like Vermijl. Only player who might not play as much is Wilson but as per few journos (I think James Ducker), Welbeck was sold after he was below Wilson in pecking order.

I am not exactly sure what's the difference between homegrown and big money signing. Can't a 'homegrown' player be a big money signing too? Rooney, Shaw and Ferdinand would be prime examples . Ashley Young and Michael Carrick not too far behind considering their transfer fees were considered relatively high when they signed

Perhaps a better comparison would be how many players in the squad have come through United's Academy despite the big money spent in transfer market. That narrows down the list to Evans, Januzaj, Fletcher, Rafael, Wilson and Blackett which is still pretty impressive nonetheless considering at least two of them will be first choice (I think)

I think Home Grown thing is considered as there are many who said ManUtd sold their soul, lost identity and going all foreign.

Home Grown issue is brought up, because everyone and sundry reported that we had lost our identity, and are now the new Galacticos, which is frankly ridiculous. This, from the same reporters, who were busy preaching everyday that United need 5-6 superstars. :\
