The Manchester United Thread

I agree about the leadership part. I hope Jones will step up to that level.

I've always been a huge fan of Jones, and he seemed like a future captain for us// But there is one problem with that scenario - Jones is injury-prone. The reason we used to be so crazy earlier was that we had 2 leaders at the back, and they hardly ever got injured, atleast not frequently (Vidic and Evra)// And the remaining ones were strong characters too (Giggs and Ferdinand), so it was ok;; If Jones can sort out his injury issues, he'll be a beast, and a leader. But atm, Jones isn't our answer to that//

After having said that, I again reiterate, if we don't keep Joens fit, we're screwed. He was a beast, even in a 3 man defence (he was shouting and organising the defence on the pitch, even when Evans was making silly errors).

I think we r short of a couple of defenders, if we could get an experienced defender like Ricardo Carvalho and a world class one like hummels it would be great but I think the team we have is more than capable of finishing top 3 and challenging for the FA cup Rojo needs to learn to stay back and cope up with the physic and pace of EPL Blind was fine and can only get better he will be an unsung hero just like Carrick but just like Rojo he needs to work on his fitness and physic

I don't think we need Ronaldo or Strootman and Mata/Januzaj will definitely get a chance to shine Di Maria/RVP/Falcao cant play 38 games or more (FA CUP) rotation will definitely be there

Yesterdays game I think the defenders got lazy and complacent and I think yesterdays collapse was eye opener Blackett so far has been decent with shaw back I think we can only get better

vs Westham

De gea
rafa rojo smallin shaw
blind
herera di mara
rooney
rvp falcao

though vs Chelsea we need to get defending ( jones carrick evans will be back probably)
de gea
rafa jones evans shaw
carrick bind
herera di maria
rooney
rvp/falcao

It's madness that people think the solution for all the problems is signing a player. We have almost a brand new team but people complain about not signing a CB. Like I said as a defensive unit we are not performing well, not just defenders. Our defensive set up should be better and I think Van Gaal summed it up well. All the players want to go forward and score goals which makes us defensively very unstable.

Blind was the only one holding back. Herrera, Di Maria, Rooney all were attacking which meant our midfield was short in numbers.

1. Indeed. Our high line even after we went in front 3-1 was shocking. And against a team that obviously were set up to play long balls. LVG was right that as a unit defensively we were all over the place but then maybe he's at fault for that?!

2. Also, we are having really bad luck with injuries etc esp in defence which nobody seems to comment on. And I dont mean only defenders. Somebody like Carrick (with his experience) would be invaluable now. But as it is we re one injury away from having a real problem of how to set up in defence.

3. We need to calm down. LVG, the squad everybody needs to calm down and use their heads during matches. Its obvious we re sublime going forward with the calibre of players we have but we need to calm down and concentrate on doing basic stuff correct. Our number one priority should be to string a number of wins together cos our lack of confidence IS a factor esp in defence.

4. Rooney was **** yet again. He far from merits the "untouchable" status given to him by LVG and he should realise it.

5. At least its not boring, which unforgivably last year was.

Just watched game again. Oh my how exciting are we going forward, looks like we can blow teams away! But like has been said numerous times our defending as a team was shocking and should of killed the game off at 3-1 with possession football and using our heads. But saying that those 3 decisions that led to 3 of there goals were absolutely shocking!#Twattenberg:(

Rojo still has a lot to learn aswell, He's only played 61 (If wikipedia is correct) competitive matches at club level & yes he had a good World Cup & joining a club like Manchester United he has alot to live up to especially coming in as Evra, Vidic & Ferdinand etc.. have left the club which puts a huge weight on the whole of the defence's shoulders & that's where Jones, Evans & Smalling need to step up (and avoid injuries) and use the experience they have & learned from the likes of Vidic, Evra & Ferdinand.

I cant believe some of the stick De Gea is getting today, from yesterdays game!

i think rooney should sit out the next match for mata

Unbelievable the amount of **** posted about Rooney. He was good yesterday, on the other hand RVP and Mata were ****. Rooney >>>>> RVP and Mata. He should play all games.

It is unbeleviable really, but everyone is like that because when he first came to us and started on a rocky footing he was slaughtered everyday but I can guarantee we would not have won the title under Fergie and we would have been a lot worse of last year under Moyes without him. God knows how many points he has saved us through his amazing reflexes.
It is just a shame that we have a poor defensive unit in front of him. The best GK in the world would look **** if they had the same defense De Gea has to deal with.
In case it didn't come across, I love DDG!

You think that's bad? I've actually seen people blaming Rafael for the penalty he conceded.

Looking forward to seeing Shaw against West Ham, think Rojo will be more comfatable at CB. I know he has played a fair few games there before at LB but his positional sense is a bit off playing there and gets caught out to often. I know people don't like Fellaini but I think he could be useful in certain games/situations. And will be another option in CM. Still confident of a win on Sunday that's for sure.

Rojo is awfulllll at CB. Why does nobody listen? If he'd played CB yesterday it would've been 7 or 8.

We shall see, but im willing to give him a chance before writing him off! I have spoke to plenty of people who said he a good CB but makes mistakes and needs to learn, and will get better. Not like we have much choice anyway!

So how is everyone after that disgrace? most angry/****** off i've been as a united fan since the everton 4-4, just shambolic shocking defending like we all knew, rooney is **** as a number 10, zero cover from midfield and no balls, leader or mental strength.

Attackers must love playing against our back line, they are so soft. I had the balls to laugh at the scousers if that was at anfield and we played like that we'd have been rinsed even worse.

Sooner we get jones fit, shaw in and carrick back the better.

RB, 2/3 cb's and another midfielder there's ya shopping list woody.
