The Manchester United Thread

He wasn't great, let's be blunt. He didn't record a single save if memory serves.
Maybe not. But how people are blaming him are just idiots, people saying hes poor for 2 season now, lacks presence and physicality. Also that he should be sold are just talking bollocks as far as im concerned. Not many keepers would have saved any of them on Sunday tbh.

Unbelievable the amount of **** posted about Rooney. He was good yesterday, on the other hand RVP and Mata were ****. Rooney >>>>> RVP and Mata. He should play all games.

Erm maybe for United only ... Mata is a world-class player as he showed at Chelsea. On par with Rooney easily. Tad harsh on Mata as well for his performance yesterday considering he didn't get many minutes

Well, the thing is who he was substituted for, which is what made him look so bad. The only player with crazy pace that we have atm is Angel di Maria (which is absolutely sad for a team which symbolised counter-attacking at one point). Against a suddenly rejuvenated Leicester side, we either needed to control the ball, or we needed crazy counter-attacking. We don't have the midfield to control the ball, and one player who could initiate counter-attacks properly was taken off for Mata.

I'm a huge fan of Mata, and want him to stay, but it felt like the wrong time to make that decision. Mata is highly useful when we are controlling and dominating the match, where he gets some time on the ball in attacking positions to do his thingamajik. The tempo of the match, and the timing made it a bad substitution, which is why all the stick. Especially because Mata isn't about to make lung-bursting moves to split and spread defence, that's what di Maria does. Dunno if LvG was forced to make that decision or something of the sort, but still seemed a weird decision.

I'd probably have removed Falcao even earlier. He got his first start, which is good, but still needs a week or so to regain full fitness. Plus, I think he missed around 3 counter-attacking chances because he was slipping all the time..;; Although, it felt like a shame that his beaty chip hit the post instead of going in..

Anything beyond the Leicester game is frankly preposterous. But let them natter on about nonsensical opinions few people will bat an eyelid to.

Yeah as in both ADM and Mata have their respective strengths and weaknesses. I just don't think it's correct to say that Rooney is better than Mata ability wise. I would say they are both on par with perhaps Mata edging Rooney out in the past few seasons considering the circumstances he was forced to deal with

If anyone thinks rooney is a better number 10 than mata then fecking ****, give your head a wobble.

Rojo is awfulllll at CB. Why does nobody listen? If he'd played CB yesterday it would've been 7 or 8.

So where does Rojo fit? Or did we ***** £16m on him to be a cover for Shaw?

Only second game I've watched him fully and vs Leicester his lack of positional sense was really quite worrying.

Think we may of cocked up on this one. Probably not getting an extra CB will cost us at the end of the season as well. Yes we can sign all the attacking talent in the world, will mean very little if we can't defend.

Even the midfield seems lightweight, Blind isn't really a tough guy though so he's just basically doing a Carrick role. Have to wonder if Blind was even a priority, given how late we left it, I'm guessing he wasn't plan A.

Rooney > Mata. Deal with it.

Lets not get over the top here, Rooney doesn't deserve to be guaranteed a spot IMO, he hasn't done anything of note over the last few seasons.

Mata hasn't seemed to, but 8 goals in last 10 games is a good record, so IMO atm, he deserved to start.

That's the ridiculous double standards from ManUtd fans. When Rooney was scoring ManUtd fans complained that his overall game was shocking, now Mata is shocking but scored few goals he is better.

Rooney is more suited to us, works harder, attacks better, defends better than Mata.

As a number 10? nay chance.

As a ManUtd player Rooney > Mata. If only one of them deserves to play then it's Rooney all day.

Definitely did not **** up buying Rojo imo, give him a chance has played 2 games so. After QPR everyone was saying he could be a steal, now we lost everyone has gone the other way. We have a lot of new players I don't care how good they are as individuals as a team we are going to be up and down performance wise for a while. I am very happy with all our signings, yes we wanted a top CB like Hummells was rumoured but non were available in the summer so we will have to wait till Jan or next summer.

I'm talking solely as a number 10, mata is much better he's way more creative, better passing in tight spaces, better dribbler and a much better touch which isn't hard tbh

Who the **** said Rojo was a steal? We paid £16m + £4m from Nani's wages so about £20m in total at least.

Btw, the whole "no CB was available" is such a lame excuse.

Di Maria wasn't available unless you offered the amount of money we did.

We need someone commanding and with good organisational skills, even Ron Vlaar would of been a good addition and upgrade on what we have, as soon as Evans went off any structure to our defending was gone.

People overreacted to the QPR game, a div 1 side would have battered them that day. Defence is a shambles as a unit and the players themselves just not good enough, hope shaw gets a chance against west ham.

Plus the team seems to have zero mental strength.

Di Maria was available because Madrid/Perez did not want him that's the only reason we got him. Name me some top CBs that were available then? Vlaar is not the answer and hardly an upgrade tbh!

Vlaar would of been a massive upgrade, much more experienced than someone like Blackett who we are relying on due to having nothing else.

Plus who do we have who actually commands that defence now Vidic has gone? Absolutely no one.

No good player is "openly available" unless you pay the money, but when we spunked the amount we did, it's obvious that we could of got another CB from somewhere if we paid the price.

Vlaar would been improvement plus has that steel and some leadership our soft lot don't have. Never seen a defence or team for a so called big side buckle like a schoolboy team under pressure.
