The Manchester United Thread

Lots of managers play players out of possition don't see what problem is as long as it benifits the team. Don't see Pep,Carlo,Enrique getting criticised when they do it far more than LVG does.

Alaba
Cavani
Mascharano
Lewandowski
Robben
Ribbery
Lahm

Can go on and on players get played/roles changed don't make them **** or have any baring on how the teams play. Don't know why LVG gets slatted for it so much tbh.

If the player can adapt then yeah but playing Rooney in midfield when Herrera is on bench is just facepalmworthy decision.

This I agree with. But Rooney can play in CM simple. It's just annoying every time we get linked with someone, it's the same old oh well LVG will play him as so and so gag. When plenty of other managers play players in different positions week in week out.

He can play but not as good as we want him to be.

Rooney has all the footballing skills to be great at CM, he just lacks the of mental discipline required. Its like the same thing that made him such a scary striker - the sort of passion and determination, is just working against him in the midfield. He fixates on winning the ball too much, you end up losing shape and entire formation goes to ****.

He lacks proper first touch and passing discipline to be a great CM. His first touch is very hit and miss and it's very important for CM.

No that's true lol. But can do a good job there just like lahm can play well at CB and Javi Martinez can at CB. Playing players out of possition is not something LVG had started and does for no reason. Just like managers at other top clubs.

LVG just persists with it, long after others would have tried other/better options in personnel or system. That's where his critisism comes from over other managers trying it.

So are you happy with Rooney's performance as CM?

Not every game no. My point is why is LVG getting blasted so much for playing players in different positions when other managers have and are doing it at other clubs week in week out? He does it for a reason and to get the best result. Why is it any different to Martinez or Mascherano playing CB or Lahm playing at CM or Alaba playing at LB or Cavani playing out RW or Ibe or Markovic playing WB or Can playing CB or Zouma playing at DM. Managers do these things for what they think will make the difference in a game to get the better result.

If RVP and Falcao looked a better option than Rooney upfront than he'd get less for it. As well as everytime Herrera has got on recently he's looked a better option than Rooney. The ones above, bar maybe Lahm look a logical solution/change on paper to the formation the manager want to play with. They have all played there before at the top level, club or country. Rodgers could be accused with the WB selections as well, but he's not dropping a natural WB for it.

Having Herrera or another CM dropped/moved at the expense of taking your best striker further from goal is not, nevermind playing Di Maria up there instead for a few games (now that was baffling). Comes down the basics. When moved into the natural positions, both Herrera and Rooney are getting goals and playing better, but back to square one next teamsheet.

Yeah true mate. But players I have mentioned have had games when they were absolute dig **** in that position/role and the manager still plays them. All any manger wants is whats best or to get the best for the team with his selection. Problem with our team this season a lot of our players have been under performing where ever they have played. LVG is just trying to get through his 1st season with a lot of change however he can, while still trying to achieve his aims like FA Cup win and top 4. I fully understand peoples points about getting fed up with his persistance with doing this but he has a reason for doing so.

True, if the team looked fluid, he'd be a genius. As it is, square pegs, round holes and points on the board. Wait till next year when he buys a **** load of players and stick with the same formation and Rooney in net. :)

We'll sign more marquee players over actually what we need.

Probably a new contract for rvp also.

From who we have been linked with not many marquee names tbh. And only players what we need. Could change come summer will have to see. Am happy with names so far though. Can see RVP going clearly not happy, and news about contract negotiations have broke down. He wants long term and club are sticking with 1yr rolling for players over 30.

The FFP court case was heard last week with a ruling due in Spring, the market might just go crazy, and make excellent viewing :) I cant wait.

I seen that the MEN newspaper were saying United want a 'Galactico' style spending approach. A world class player in every position with another 150mil+ set to be spent this summer

I personally think a style of play and a formation suiting the players you have will be the first step instead of buying players for the sake of it
