The Manchester United Thread

An inconsistent Everton side beat them 4-1 at home and 2-0 away on the Europa league last season comfortably. They have 3-4 quality players and the rest aren't worth shouting home about. United should walk this.

you cannot really use the everton games as a barometer that was relatively speaking a fair while ago, they have most definitely improved since then. Not sure how much Bundesliga you watched last season but I did watch a fair bit, they got much better as the season went on especially once they signed Shirley too. Finished second also beating Bayern proving they can beat anyone on their day, so it is not as cut and dried as United will walk it at all

edit : also getting 60m for De Bruyne, plus the spending power they had to begin with Wolfsburg could easily get 3 quality players with that money

They picked up a lot of points in 2015 and improved form, however United should still beat them home and away. They had the most Bundesliga points in 2015 I think. It won't be an easy tie, however United should still be looking to win every game and come out win at least 13 points.

Agree, depends on who they spend the De Bruyne money on.
Even if they do spend the De Bruyne money, United will be a much better side after the transfer window. Chances are, they won't get a player anywhere near his quality, especially as there are lots of top European clubs with more money. They may also struggle to attract top players like Liverpool with the Suarez money.

I am confused, you have stated about Arsenal many times this summer that they had improved form at the back end of the season and now they must be considered contenders on all fronts. Wolfsburg do it in what is a pretty competitive Bundesliga and they aint gunna do ****. It will not be as as cut and dried as you think, there is a reason Mike isn't sure of the order yet and I am pretty sure he has done analytic work on the Bundesliga so I will egde with him

You do know that wolfsburg have pretty decent resources right? remember when they beat Arsenal to the signature of Luiz Gustavo?

Isn't Wolfsburg is one of the biggest spenders in Europe? Discounting sugar daddy clubs at least.

Well if you discount cheep booze and hookers.

Joking aside .....

Weighed up against corrupt bizzies, £100 sterling for a Visa you now have to go to either Edinburgh or London for in person to the Embasy; on top of an expensive, long *** flight. And if it's the end of the group, sub zero temperatures. Oh yeah, and the good chance of spending your trip avoiding Russian groks wielding iron bars and the like.

Russia is a pain in the *** from all stand points.

Lol I guess you're right.

I sometimes forget there are places in the world, where football in subzero temperatures and rampaging snow, on a stadium with no roof, seems like something exotic.

Here we just call it "first part of the season".

Wolfsburg paid over inflated wages and transfer fees and have accumulated sizeable debts. Their resources aren't in the league of United or Arsenal's. They are owned and sort of bankrolled by Volkswages, so they pretty much are a sugar daddy. When they beat us to Gustavo, they were 11 placed and offered 8 million Euro net, which is nearly 200k per week Sterling.

MEGA jealous of the other three English sides

Arsenal got two guaranteed brilliant trips in Munich and Athens. Zagreb is dodgy (well, VERY dodgy but yer know) and an expense getting there but gorgeous. Should be through.

Chelsea have only fallen unlucky with Kiev. Porto is brilliant and Tel Aviv has the makings of a great one. Easily through.

And City have two boss ones in Seville and Gladbach. Though I'd swerve the carnage that would be Turin of it were ourselves. Wouldn't like to call that group either.

Roll on tomorrow lunchtime. The anticipation is killing me.

I hate easy groups. I prefer having at least one big team there so that we can measure ourselves against the best of Europe and if we lose, it's not an instant elimination like it would be in the knockout stages. Chelsea got a easy group last season as well and walked it before coming up against a quality PSG side and getting absolutely smashed

That's why I'm a fan of our group. We pretty much should go through against 2 weaker teams and an excellent tie against Bayern which I'm looking foward too.

So presuming De Gea makes it through the window still at Utd, how long before he get's reinserted the team?

I mean on the one hand, taking him at face value that he's fully prepared to play now, he has to be as you can't leave a player of that quality out. (Much less his salary sat riding the bench.).

But on the other, it'd be terribly harsh on Romero. Yeah, he's not looked the most solid. But he's still only a deflection from 5 clean sheets out of 5.

That's gonna' be another interesting sub plot of this whole saga.

No one watches football here, we go off how they develop in FM, rookie!

:) :)

:D

I grew up talking about football with my mates and the conversation would go something like this...
"We are supposed to be buying Costa Fortune"
"Really?? Is He any good?"
"Yeah, He's alright".

Nowadays...
"We are supposed to be buying Costa Fortune"

"Really? Is He any good?"

"Well... He has good distribution and potential if we utilize him in a flat back one with inside wingers, alternating with the outer center backs in a pseudo diamond formation, but he will only be effective if we use Scaldy McBalls as a 2nd striker, running off him in unilateral patterns"

Everybody is a poxy punter these days and it's boring.

The most intriguing part about this is how little difference so far it has had on the team. Our better defence seems to of solved a lot of these issues we had making De Gea do a lot of work last season.

Romero shouldn't and hopefully will not be dropped because it's unfair if he is at the moment, he's made a few slight lapses in concentration which haven't really resulted in a mistake. So De Gea should have to wait for his opportunity to come now as far as I'm concerned.

First real test coming up the next fortnight. First a tough away in South Wales Sunday.

Then the BIG one a week the following Sat'day.

Frustrating there's a break so early in the year before we play each other.
