The Manchester United Thread

I don't think Martial will be used as a striker, particularly at first. I'd imagine he will fight for a spot on the left or right. Apparently he can play both but the left is where he is more suited to cut onto his stronger foot.

I think it will be Rooney - Martial combination, one as 9 and other behind him.

At least he'll actually offer us pace and movement which will be refreshing! We were way too static against Swansea and other teams as well like Newcastle, so easy to defend.

Interesting read, I literally had no idea Ronaldo only had scored 3 goals before he came to us, crazy!

I'm completely with him there. That would be my philosophy as regards squad building as a coach/ manager. 22/23 players with adequate cover for each position is ideal supplemented if possible by the best youth you think has a realistic chance of making it.

Squad size and rotation has gotten nuts in the modern game.
Well that's actually the squad size I work with in FM. Never had any problems with it despite playing for close to a decade (H).

New signing.

I've just noticed Del Bosque has said that De Gea needs to play for us this season to be in contention for Euro's playing for Spain.

We could be total coconuts about this and say to him sign a new contract or you're not playing. Tough but firm stance. ^.^

Not that I'd want us to, but still.

Meh, he'll be in that squad regardless. Spain are exceptionally loyal to 'keepers.

He won't start even if he has another superhuman season down to that and Casillas. But I'd be shocked if he wasn't one of the three.

They took Casillas as number 1 to the WC having barely played for Madrid leading upto it (to disastrous results) for a glaring recent example.

That would be far too Madridish...:P

Get him ready for it.

But no, I wouldn't want that. Just offer him a huge contract, One that fits his status as a key player and one of the best goalkeepers. Then give him a £10million or so signing bonus. See if we can't test his resolve about going to Madrid.

Wenger didn't rate him enough to pay 40 mil back when he went to Napoli so I'd bet everything on the fact he wouldn't be bidding almost twice that now. Benzema was the main target with late talks with PSG about Cavani who would have cost 50 mil pounds which again Wenger thought excessive and brief inquiry about Zaza from Juventus, but again demands too high for Wenger.

Arsenal's €60m bid for striker Gonzalo Higuain dismissed by Napoli

Napoli in fact did reject a huge offer of 43.3 million pounds. The Telegraph reported that Arsenal just made an enquiry which was likely rejected and weren't prepared to bid well over 50 million because of his age. Real were never going to sell Benzema and at most, I've seen Metro 'reports' on Zaza, so I'm not sure on the the validity of the rumour. Remember that Juve pulled a plug on him going to West Ham a few days ago because they wanted to keep him.

Not that that hasn't already been done...

Him spending the next couple of weeks with the squad prob wont help. He'll come back calmer and less ****** off about the move debacle, but surely talked more into, 'dont worry just wait till jan/next summer' - Mata can fight them off with a stick...

Yeah, but the problem is that it's not the money why he wants that Madrid move so badly.

Media reports about "bids" are about as reliable as Wilshere's ankles.

Unless Arsenal or Napoli openly confirm there was a bid, this is all just fluff.

Will two weeks (well less really because we play in less then that), say 8/9 days until he comes back will really make him forget how idiotically Madrid and Mendes have negotiated this transfer that they promised? He must easily forgive people if that's the case.

Martial the Liverpool fan makes me chuckle.

And remind me not to play video games against him. This is only half time from the translation! ha ha:

Eh? He was just playing with Liverpool on FIFA. That doesn't mean he is Liverpool fan.

He is Lyon fan.

Despite being from Paris, Martial admits that he's a big Lyon fan, which should come as no surprise bearing in mind that he started his career there

That's management/office, he's spending the time with teammates and potential future teammates who want to see him come home to Madrid. Makes all the difference.
