The Manchester United Thread

You moan when ManUtd are linked with Mane and also moan when they are linked with Neymar. You keep on going on about quality of squad when club tries to sign a big player you think it's some stupid policy.

Because it is. Also I didn't really moan about Mane, I said he'd be a decent buy but nothing more, and getting him in January would of been bad because we would of been absolutely rinsed for him. He isn't worth paying big big money which Southampton would want.

But I have slight optimism...

According @DiMarzio #mufc want Andrea Berta (Atletico sporting director). He is tempted. Berta needs to answer in coming weeks..

Seems the club might be waking up to the modern game and how the club needs to be run from a footballing perspective.

DiMarzio: United target Atlético Madrid's sporting director Andrea Berta alongside Mourinho:

Sporting director Andrea Berta has made a name for himself at Atletico Madrid after previously working at Parma and Genoa. The former banker has formed a strong partnership with Simeone as a well as director Jose' Caminero, they took the club from the relegation zone to the la Liga title in just three years.. Berta has shown good attention to detail, professionalism and the ability to make the right choices- he wasn't afraid to replace Courtois with Oblak as an example. Berta has become the most respected Italian director in Europe, and the Premier League has set their sights on him.

While the biggest milestones in his career have taken place in Spain, Berta could be leaving Madrid for England, where he could partner with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. The Red Devils have identified Mourinho as their top choice, there isn't much room for discussions or alternatives, the negotiation has been on going for some time. The plan seems to be set, the signature is expected to be for next season, as the former Chelsea manager doesn't want to start right away. Berta has a good relationship with Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes, the possibility that he will join Manchester United is concrete- he will give his answer in the next few weeks. Manchester United is looking to get back on track, Mourinho and Berta could be the central figures in their new project.

Things in motion now by the looks of it. Despite what LVG is saying, looks like he is gone in the summer. And i think this with Mou signing will be a major step forward into righting the wrongs since and even before Fergie left.

Great news to hear this and one of the best moves as a club we can make, I've been crying out for our club to make strides forward in terms of how we are run on the footballing side of things, this is a sign of those wheels starting to go in motion.

Yes would be delighted if true. And then leave Woody to the fianancial side of the club, we he is excellent at tbh. Plus its good he is a close friend of Mou and could have an excellent partnership both in terms of on and off the pitch. Also his transfer dealings at Atletico have been impressive on such a small budget compared to the 2 big boys, and his conections to South American scouts, teams and players is very interesting. With him Mou and Mendes being best of buddies this could be fanastic for the club and getting us back were we belong.

Exactly, one of the best moves as a club we can make, puts us in a much better place with how we'll be run and leaves Woody to go get his next noodle sponsor without worrying about transfers at the same time whilst also thinking where he'll take LVG to dine to give him the sack lol.

Will be an interesting Summer thats for not just transfer wise but with potentially new manager,DOF,acadamey director of what ever you want to call it all coming in. Least things are sounding promising and looks like people at the top are starting to make strides to put things right.

Some of his transfers since been at Atletico since he has been there from 2013.

Toby Alderweireld - €7M
Played twelve times for Atletico in the league, loaned out to Southampton and then sold to Tottenham Hotspur for €16M (profit of €9M).

David Villa - €2.1M
Scored 13 goals in 36 appearances in the league thus helping Atletico to their first league title since 1996. Then left on a free to NYCFC.

Jose Sosa - €1.5M
Played 15 times in the league over six months and came on in CL final. Won the league in his time there.

Diego - €1.5M
Played 13 times in the league for Atletico in last half of the season and was unused substitute in CL final. Won the league in his time there.

Martin Demichelis - Free transfer
Sold to City two months later for €5M.

Antoine Griezmann - €30M
What's there to say? Has scored 44 times in 85 appearances so far for Atleti. If he does leave Atleti, is likely to go for double what they paid for him.

Mario Mandzukic - €22M
Scored 20 goals in 43 appearances. Sold to Juventus for €19M the following season (€3M loss).

Jan Oblak - €16M
Was only in March 2015 that he started playing for Atleti, and since then hasn't looked back. 29 clean sheets in 50 appearances for them so far, conceding just 32 goals.

Raul Jimenez - €10.5M
Played 21 times in the league for Atleti, scoring just once. Not great for a centre forward. Sold to Benfica for €9M the following season.

Guilherme Siqueira - €10M
Signed to be Luis' replacement.

Angel Correa - €7.5M
Only made his debut this season due to heart problems when he signed. Has played 11 times in the league scoring twice. Is only 20 years old.

Jackson Martinez - €35M
Scored just three times in 22 appearances for Atleti before being whisked off to China for €42M. Jorge Mendes strikes again.

Stefan Savic - €9M
Yep, the former City player. This transfer seems to have tanked with Savic making just five league appearances this season.

Yannick Ferreira Carrasco - €20M
Signed from other Mendes club Monaco. Has played often this season - 20 appearances so far in the league. But has just scored three times so far.

Luciano Vietto - €20M
Played 13 times in the league this season scoring once.

Filipe Luis - €16M
Luis was a key player for Atleti in the season they won the league. They sold him to Chelsea for €20M and managed to buy him back for just four million less. When fit and not getting himself sent off, he has generally played this season. 19 appearances in the league.

Matias Kranevitter - €8M
Signed him in August and loaned him back out to River Plate. Joined up with the squad in last month's transfer window, making two cup appearances.

Bernard Mensah - €6M
Signed him and immediately loaned him out to Getafe.

Sounds like Sanchez could be our first Summer signing.

Jan Hagen @PortuBall Record report that Benfica & Man United are "close" to an agreement for Renato Sanches after their €60m offer(€20m in bonuses).

Jan Hagen @PortuBall Ojogo report Renato is close to join Man United.

Benfica want more right away than the €40m(+20m bonuses) Man United have offered. The English club desperate to get a quick solution. [Rcrd/Ojo ]

You know my views on what happens when you get a good DoF and scouting right. This is a game changer if it happens. By far our weakest area for about 6 years now.

You do know that Woody is not responsible for signing sponsorship deals from last 3 years right? That was Woody before he was promoted to CEO. Some guy replaced him 3 years back and it's hilarious you still think it's woody who is negotiating noodle deals.

This galactico style he idolises won't work at United, it hardly works at Madrid given their lack of success through doing it, it's a silly approach to want the club to have unless you only care about commercial/marketing more than the football, which is why he idolises this vision.

I really dont understand this attitude. And especially from you. I seem to recall you screaming that we need to bring in big players, already developed players that we need to be bidding for the best and when we actually make the fucken bids you whinge again.

You know that I have agreed with most things you ve said (much more than anybody on this forum actually) but this is plain silly.

Imho its the unavoidable truth that "galacticos" as you call them such as NEYMAR are the world's very top players. To say that we dont need them or they "wont work" is dumbfounding. AGUERO is a "galactico" and works fine for ******. BENZEMA is a galactico works fine for REAL. LEVANDOWSKI is a galactico works fine for BAYERN. GRIEZMANN is a galactico (in the making) works well ... oh well I hope you get the drift.

And dont mention ADM - he was badly handled by LVG and had that awful experience with the break in. And in the summer you (together with me) were hyperventilating that we need(ed) to bring a similar standard player!

Absolutely. Getting the structure right with proper football people is key.

Keep reading about United shutting down the whole top tier for Miditylland despite dropping prices right down for the tie due to a lack of interest.

Is there really such apathy still to the Europa? This continues to sadden me. ****, you win it you do what we no longer can post Cup Winners and join a very select few to of won all three European majors. That alone you'd think would enthuse the support aside from it still being a fantastic competition.

Tickets are still relatively expensive, and its still about 59,000.

Ok ta. Couldn't knock that attendance at all for a midweek game. I knew I'd read they'd reduced them but then it's all relative as to what they've reduced them to.

They are down 25%. But you have to figure in it's probably more an indictment of the dull football (though thats changed recently), as well as it being a relatively expensive midweek fixture against a small side. Would be higher against say, Sevilla

Or if it goes wrong it's goes badly so easily and gets worse every week.

I'm excited about DoF but hopefully we won't end up like a mess Liverpool have created with all that bs committee.

Like I say, although it's a drop on capacity that people will doubtless jump on, 59,000 would still be a terrific turnout midweek regardless. Throw in all you've mentioned and it looks even better.

Although I naturally don't want you to progress, smiles, like yourself I really hope Van Gaal gives it and the club the respect it deserves and really goes all out for the Europa. It'd be to United's detriment for him not to but we sadly know that's not always the case these days in that competition.

If we send a weakened team and we get knocked out, I want him fired there and then
