The Manchester United Thread

They denied it last time, and denied that he was getting sacked/offered to resign.

They even denied when there was a story about Rooney's transfer request, I think Telegraph or Independent published it and ManUtd immediately dismissed it.

Also it happened with ManUtd were linked with Pep.

LVG is well liked by Woodward, and United are wary how badly they dealt with Moyes (we embarrassed him, reallypoor form from us), and they will want to do right by him when removing him. It will be something mutual end of season, allow him to retire nicely. Sacking is definitely a last resort.

I dont think anything is ever really mutual. Thats just a polite way of sacking and to save face for the media. As soon as a club gets a manager in and says we'd prefer it if you left/resigned, thats as good as a sacking.

I'm gonna throw my tuppence in has anyone thought that the club and LVG are keeping quiet to prevent an even bigger implosion on the playing field, you only need to see what happened when Fergie first announce his retirement (then changed his mind much to the rest of the PL's disappointment) and the effect the whole Pep thing has affected the Citeh players. It makes sense to deny anything and the only one who will look silly if Jose doesn't get the job is Jose and a few newspapers. A good bit of business sense to me.

I agree, but they will do their best not to pull the rug from under him.

They will try to part ways respectfully, Van Gaal will take early retirement and then new manager will be announced. Or Van Gaal will say only after he said he will retire early Woodward started to search for manager.

They will try their best for better PR.

Also like we all know, Woodward and Van Gaal get along very well. So they will try to save face as much as possible.

United going out to China for a couple of games huh this summer?

The dictating factor at boardroom level of who'll pay the most appearance fee money and have the ability to get the most folk into a ground that overrides everything and completely disrupts big clubs pre-season's today. Sighs. Not naive enough to not accept the major business that is today's game but I hate it all the same.

You're doing the same thing in the US and then Europe. Not that big a deal tbh after the Euros.

That's was why I was consciously put 'big clubs' there. We've been on about this quite a bit recently the L'pool thread.

I personally hate the long haul trips. I get them from a financial POV. But hate them all the same. You lose quite a few days training ground work with travel and time differences and all that. Klopps been lobbying hard to pull out of the ICC apparently but the financial commitment was too much. (Although if we're in the Europa qualifier he may still get his way.).

Be very interesting going forward if we go back to European pre-seasons with odd one off money spinning long haul friendlies if he fully gets his way. The domestic friendlies still to be confirmed before this tourney is a step in that direction we've not had for a long time.

out of interest any idea if he travelled in pre season with Dortmund or stayed local

Too many sponsorship deals mean every club should be doing these tours. Otherwise clubs will be losing big money.

Also in 2007-08 we went to China for pre season tour and it didn't stop us from winning CL and PL (Should have won the FA cup too, blatantly robbed). So pre season excuse shouldn't be a valid one.

Never mate. The only 'overseas' so to speak friendly they had was against L'pool in 2014. Every other one has been Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Spain. He's all about keeping it local and having as much time pre-season on the training ground as possible.

Di Marzio reporting that Utd and Bayern are faves for the signature of Napoli CB Kalidou Kabaly this summer. Not sure about spelling :) but he has been great this season!!!

Yeah it's largely irrelevant, providing they have time together on the tour.

Tbh they really should skip touring when there's Euro or WC finals.

That I agree with, but then most of the Euro players will come back late anyway. Lots of our WC players didnt even make the majority of the tour, was the youth and fringe

From time to time, RedCafe can be great.

Bastian out for the season. Even worse, he could miss the Euros. Could be it for him.

Will take something special for him to come back from an injury like that at his age. Considering pep didn't think he was fit anyway, and he's hardly had the legs of a 25 year old for us either, could be career over
