But the story had a happy ending after fellow fans saved the day by paying for his flight to be changed so he can go to Wembley for the FA Cup final

A Manchester United fan who had travelled from Sierra Leone to watch the Red Devils in action for the first time was left distraught when his side's match against AFC Bournemouth was abandoned prior to kick-off.

However, big-hearted supporters saved the day, by paying for the man's flight to be changed so he can attend Saturday's FA Cup final at Wembley where United will take on Crystal Palace.

Today's scheduled fixture at Old Trafford was abandoned when a suspect package was discovered by a steward, initially forcing the evacuation of the Stretford End and Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.

The full stadium was then emptied as bomb disposal expert arrived, later concluding the device was a hoax.

Ian Stirling, vice-chair of the Manchester United Supporter's Trust, tweeted: "This is Moses. He came from Sierra Leone to watch his first match at Old Trafford. He's distraught."

If we don't concede then we will finish season with the best defensive record. Shame about the attack.

The game is rescheduled to 17th so looks like we will play team full of kids as we have cup finals next.
 
All the papers and news outlets are going on about Utd being embrassed by this event due to it being a training device, but what if it had been a real device and thousands (not just fans at the ground a real bomb would probably have taken out a significant area around the ground as well) had been killed or injured it would have been a whole different story. Yes it was a f**k up by someone at the private security firm, who probably also missed it when doing a post exercise sweep but at least it proved the evacutation procedures on matchday work. From personal experience I know how easy something can be missed and how easy it is for something as innoculous as desert sand to be confused with something more dangerous.

hope he does play all the kids they deserve it. They have been fantastic for Warren and LVG when called up.
 
Couple of things this morning. CBJ is reported to get a new 4 year deal before next season. And new summer signing Chong scored and had an assist in a MOTM performance for Holland at the u17s UC.

The imbecilic British media continue to not be worth a wank.

You can NEVER be too careful. Especially in the times we now live. Always surprised me there's never been a major football game/ sporting event hit when you have so many people gathered together in one place. Ideal opportunity for those that way inclined and Evil enough. Never been lost on me how 'toady could be the day' at the match sadly because of how the World now is but whatcha' gonna' do? Like everything else now, you just hope intelligence is on top of everything and anytime anything like this, even a dummy device as in this case, that does get through is spotted and the relevant authorities deal as efficiently as they did at yesterday's game.

The only person embarrassed is whomever left it there to start with.

The club confirmed it there is always a list of scouts who are at the game. That's what scouts in attendance do report what top clubs are watching said players. Nothing stupid about it.

To be fair it doesnt really prove the evacuation procedure works or anything like that. This was a mobile device that gets triggered from somebody away from the ground. It took about 2 hours from the device being found to the controlled explosion. It was all over sky sports straight away and other media. If it were a real bomb, he would have detonated it at 2:50pm when it started to filter through that there was a code red alert. Yes we managed to get a lot of the fans out, and most didnt even get in, but the only reason this was a success is because it wasnt real. If it was real, it would have been set off the minute suspicion was raised and the news became public.

Not sure whats your point. The fact that they activated all these evacuation procedures and abandoned the game due to something that turned out to be a training device is embarassing in and of itself. Glad to see security at OT is vigilant but this should never have happened in the first place.

Probably the most dangerous OT has been for opposing teams all season. Theatre.

If it was a real device it probably wouldn't of made it past security.

2 hours between finding and destroying a device is fairly quick when you take into account the need to confirm the item is suspect then to get hold of bomb disposal (there are only a small number of units to cover the whole of the UK) and to get things in place to explode the device, I've seen bomb disposal guys at work and it isn't a case of go in put down explosives and set it off they have to make sure that everything is safe before they sort it. Ok so if it was real a terrorist could have detonated it earlier but nine times out of ten they won't be near a tv/radio or any other electronic device as they can just as easily cause the bomb to not detonate or go off too soon.

Maybe not. But the fact it was found by a fan about 20 minutes before kick off is a massive **** up in itself. Why is the ground not thoroughly checked before the game and before fans are allowed in? It would have been detected and removed. Also when it was found, why did nobody come out and say they had a security drill on Wednesday and it could possibly be something left from that? Whoever fitted it in the first place must be able to tell if its one of theirs or not.

It appears what has happened is the club has tried to save face and trying to get a pat on the back for stopping a "terrorist threat" rather than admit it was a massive **** up. But the story has come out anyway, and now we just look stupid. A big portion of the blame should go to the security firm that planned the security test for not removing all devices. They should have made a log of where every divice was left, and remove them all after the test. But also the club should be checking the stadium on a regular basis, and especially every match day. If the test was on Wednesday, why was this device only found by a fan on Sunday afternoon?
