The Manchester United Thread

Before Di Maria was signed, LVG named Do Maria saying he wanted winners like Di Maria. Woody signed him, Van Gaal cycled him. No wonder her wanted out Asap.
Falcao was done though and Van Gaal disnt know h ow to useSchweinsteiger.

Shaw, Herrera, Di Maria, Blind, Schneiderlin, Martial, Darmian are not qualitypkayers iant it? As uaual, pretend but knows **** all. How do you know what players were promised to managers?

Nonsense. Not surprised.

He got Di Maria in the very first window and didn't use him properly. He wanted Depay and was signed before season ended. Signed Herrera and barely used him. Van Gaal was full of excuses and people like you lap p everything. He wanted creative players but sold creative pkayers like Kagawa, nani. Wanted goal scorers but sold hernandez. Full of ***** like yourself.

Lol, Managers identify targets and woody signed them. He failed to sign Muller and Bale who were as good as unrealistic. Apart from those manners got the players they wanted. Moyes wanted to scout 20 times before making decision and backed out of every decision. Blaming woody for Moyes failure is hilarious. Van Gaal got event player he wanted except Muller and Neymar.

Lol again clueless. SAF don't ask Scholes, it was Scholes who wanted to come back. Yeah team that spent 18 million on Young, 16m on Jones, 7 million on bebe, made bid of 30 us million on Lucas Hazard was skint.
ManUtd always had money and even more in cash at that time because of Ronaldo sale.Fergie didnt use it as team was good enough for.him to win leagues.

Asusual completely clueless, spout random **** to sound knowledgeable but sound like a empty vessel.

Do you reckon it was a fair move on Woody's part to pursue Muller and Bale and continously leak to the press about it if they were in your words 'impossible'? This is exactly the type of actions which is why I say Woody is very brash. Yes he helms the biggest club in the world but he seems to love shoving it into everyone's face through all this instead of quietly going about his job which he is doing now after realizing that he is simply looking silly doing all this and not even getting Top 4 in the end

Also don't forget the time Woody spent half a summer chasing after Sergio Ramos only to realize he was being led down the garden path by player and agent who just wanted a new contract. A trick that Ramos has been playing for ages now. Also the time he tried to hide the fact that he had gone to Barcelona to try and sign Pedro by leaking to the press that he was there to lodge an enquiry for Neymar instead

Gill really never went to such extents to potray United as this footballing super power. He let the results on the pitch do most of the talking

Neymar father confirmed ManUtd made bid. So you are clearly wrong here.

You know that club signed many players right? Ramos deal didn't slow us down at all. As usual people taking cheap shots at woody when Madrid offered whatever is needed to keep Ramos. Well played for player and agent. ManUtd lost nothing ad officials don't sit ask day long to sign a player. Agents deal with that.

What's wrong in trying to sign big players? You don't bid then you don't sign. Bayern and Spurs confirmed we made record bid, Bale signed for Madrid rejecting Miyes and ManUtd, Bayern didn't agree to stl. Muller then said Moody was tempting.

Your last point doesn't make sense. He wants big players for the club and he tried. Can't blame woody got Moyes and Van Gaal's incompetence. We didn't get top 4 because of manager, not because of woody.

Yes but as you yourself said if these moved were 'impossible' in the first place regardless of high you bid, why waste time over them? To leak it to the press and potray Woody as the biggest mover and shaker in football

Also Woody appointed LVG and Moyes so he takes blame for their failures as well

What do you mean club lost nothing? They directed time, attention and resources towards signing a player who was clearly leading them on. As you yourself said, well played for player and agent and embarassing for woody.

Also I never said United never bid for Neymar. They probably have done sometime in the past. Just that they used that as an excuse to cover up Woody's trip to Barcelona once Chelsea hijacked Pedro from under his nose

As I said, Gill may very well have said that United have money to spend but Woodward did it in a much more brash and arrogant manner which as Mike already pointed out, made many United fans disappointed eventually when results on the pitch did not match the confidence being displayed by United outside of it.

Yes SAF and not Gill won trophies. Not sure where I ever said otherwise. I think you missed the point I tried to make. When Gill made his supposed comments that you claim he did, club won on the field so no one really cared. When Woodward made even more brash comments along the same line, club was doing very badly on the field so people obviously felt that Woody was simply slamming his **** on the table for no good reason and could not back up his big talk.

Of course no woody cannot influence how things turn out on the pitch but as a representative of United, he is also held responsible for the state of the club just as a CEO is held liable for a company's poor performance even if it was not his fault. It is also fair to point to the comments he has made previously and direct some ire at him for the disconnect between them and the results as many United fans did evidenced by season tickets falling.

As for interviews and the tone you say I am reading them in, sure Woodward may have been far more nuanced in his interviews but he still did make or leak comments such as how he could 'break world transfer record' or is away on 'important transfer business' which will be sensationalized by the press and be crucial in the image he is eventually going to be potrayed as in the public eye. That is as much his fault as the media's considering he should be media trained

I would really like to see these posts where I supposedly called Woody 'every name under the sun'. If I recall correctly, I simply said his comments were brash and arrogant as I am saying now. I fail to see the relevance of my comments 3 years ago regardless considering how much the situation has changed since then.

Woody gives one interview or at max 2. Can't blame him when papers use his name and club to generate more clicks by linking the club with every player.

You have very wrong assumption about woody. Check his interviews and it is no different to any club's officials with high ambitions. He didn't leak about world record fee, he said in an interview saying club is in very healthy position and not worried about breaking records to sign players. There is nothing wrong with that a he did what he said. He was not afraid to throw money to sign big players.

Re abusing woody, check your posts when we err linked with Mata

You never know until you try.

Moyes was appointed by previous regime. Gill SAF and charlton. Woodward just was appointed as CEO when Gil stepped down in feb, Van Gaal appointment was by woody though.

Embarrassing for woody because agent used his name? ManUtd completed 6 signing that summer, how much time did you think agent spent with woody? Just because it was saga in the media doesn't mean woody sat with agent everyday. Woody said what we can pay to Ramos and agent negotiated better contract with madrid.

Re Pedro, 20million was nothing for club and koeman confirmed we made multiple bids for Mane..

Neymar sr said we made bid in the summer. Pinky over who is making excuses to cover up is you.

Why do we even need Matic, with a midfield of him and Schneiderlin/Carrick we'll never get out of our own half.
I would not mind in a 3 tbh. Then let Schniederlin do what we wanted him to do and play BTB like at Southampton. Matic beating it in front of the back 4 then Rooney or Gomez creating and getting forward. Plus those 2 would allow the front 3 to just play where they want roaming interchanging.

This idea that a club loses time resources doesn't actually work by the way. It's not like you are stuck on a phone for 3 weeks

Incorrect. That came out well after pedro and not from the club either. Came straight from neymar senior

Matic is an aggressive ball closer. You can play him with Carrick as the playmaker, or play an aggressive defensive pivot with schneiderlin, or combine him with and all action Herrera for a complete midfield. Or you can build a monster 3 man mid. Massive personell and tactical upgrade on Fellaini. Chelsea would be silly to sell imo

I certainly cannot remember Gill boasting about United's prowess in the transfer market in such a in-your-face manner that Woodward has been doing the past few seasons. Also another thing that helped Gill is that United actually won trophies regularly under his reign which backed up these supposed comments about transfer war chest that you claimed he was making. Also Mike stated himself that Woody talks big which made most fans eventually dillusioned when things were not reproduced on the pitch and I just added onto that so not sure where you get this idea that I have a problem with Woodward ...

Gill actually did. He always said united had the resources to compete financially for top players if i do recall

Di Maria never even wanted to be here, Falcao is a retired pensioner posing as footballer, and jury's out on Bastian. Some high profile signings mate.

But they were not the kind of quality players both Moyes and LVG were promised. As usual butthurt causes your reading comprehension to go below zero.

Correct. He talked big, spent big...and signed small. Great success.

Van Gaal has spend last 2 years talking about how the team lacks fast creative player, and how United desperately need one. And guess what. You still don't have one. Moyes got zero backing in the market all together. But evidently you know better what players manager wanted, than the managers themselves.

What The **** are you even talking about. It's literally Woodward's job to run the business side of things and make deals happen. That's not manager's responsibility. Managers identify the targets, they go to Woodward, he spends summer after summer embarrassing himself launching failed bids. Both Moyes and LVG were left in the dust without the players they were promised, and somehow they're to blame? Are you off your meds again?

It's a pubiically traded company, manager can't just go around saying "we have no money for transfers, we're ******". But sure, they always had the money, totally. Bringing Scholes out of retirement was also due to "lack of value on the market", because Fergie just didn't see a point of using his multi-million, always available warchest, on someone who will actually have legs.

Sweet mother of Christ, you're as thick as elephant's foreskin.

There's a reason martial was bought mate. You also said it was woodward's job to make the bale and muller deals work. That's non sense. Those 2 players are integral to their respective clubs who are power houses in world football and would never take a step down like that regardless of how much *** kissing and money talking woodward had to do. That's just a fact

You've got to be realistic with your targets and LVG was not...that's not woodward's fault.

Guys, anybody here who follows the BBVA regularly and has any clue (apart from the mirror articles) if this Bailly guy does worth the 32 million?
