The Manchester United Thread

U wouldnt think pogba would be but plenty have said it, even before the rumours. Kroos has also been mentioned a lot and there's not even any rumours about him, or any reason to think he's available. That's my point. Practically any world class player gets mentioned for any position, realistic signing or not. Matuidi has never even been thought of, but now it's like he's the best midfielder in the world.

Well firstly no one has made him anything like the best midfielder in the world. Secondly why would I mention a box to box mid when Im thinking we are playing 4-23-1 and therefore need a playmaker there? I've been very consistent on that. Matuidi is a shift to 4-3-3 which means you want a box to box next to the playmaker. Different set up entirely. Different players. Looking at him,Neves Witsel

Yeah that lineup makes no sense to me. Who's the passer here? Please don't tell me it's supposed to be Pogba. Who's the holding mid? Both Schneiderlin and Matuidi like to bomb forward. That's why PSG brought Krychowiak, who doesn't offer as much in terms of forward runs but is more disciplined defensively.

4-3-3 is basically supposed to have a passer, a runner, and a destroyer, right? You have 2 runners and no passer. And in the backup lineup you have 2 passers and whatever Herrera is.

Makes no sense unless I'm missing something.

Actually, both Matuidi and Schneiderlin are sharp passers and great tacklers.

Man Utd have clear run @ Pogba as Real Madrid won't go above £60m. Utd will. Me + @JPercyTelegraph wrote this last week

Pogba isn't a just a runner. He's certainly a passer too

Carrick and Schweinsteiger and both hold and pass.

Providing you hold the midfield, you can play multiple combinations in front.

Exactly. I think Tyton means a dedicated playmaker. But that's exactly how pogba will go I think. That 6 gives us so many combinations any way. Not evening thinking about Rooney because I'm not convinced he will make the midfield the way he finished the euros.

On Mkytarian

James Cooper, just after 9am this morning on Sky Sports News outside Old Trafford, reckoned that Henrikh would be having the second part of his medical today.

Has the press conference started?

I really want us to stay 4-2-3-1, with the ability to go 4-3-3. Which means a second playmmaker

Ready to watch the press conference and I would of loved Pjanic, he would of been able to really be that playmaker who has a great passing range. Pogba is more of a box to box in my eyes but he does have a good passing range as well.

I still think we might lack that tempo dictating/playmaking midfielder to be honest, kind of like the Fabregas role at Chelsea.

Sitting with my cuppa, ready for Jose.
Thank god He has PL experience ;)

That's why I prefer 4-2-3-1, Pjanic would have played a bit higher. The ideal is Kroos, but if Pogba is not on their radar, then he is definitely not for sale.

We've still got Herrera to be fair, who fits that tryo role for Jose, and would have more freedom than under LVG

It really depends on our shape, and who stays

If we have a midfield 3, with one a ball winner holding and one box to box, wouldn't Rooney be the perfect player to just be the playmaker and get forward? If that's his sole job, and has another 2 with him to do the other work, I would have thought he'd be excellent in that role. Like fabregas in the first half of Chelsea's title season but would probably chip in with a few more goals.

In theory, but he ended the Euros so badly I wouldnt stake a season on it. I'd definitely start Herrera or Pogba if he arrived over him in a heart beat

"I was never good on hiding behind philosophies" :)

10 minutes in and he's had a shot at LVG (deserved) and Wenger.

Well Arsenal United won't be boring anymore, about time we rekindled that.

So we have 4 priorities in the market. We've hit 3, and we are after one more.
