On a point, Marchisio would have been a better alternative option to Matuidi, but signing him would have been all but impossible

That's right. Also, I remember we've tried to sign Marchisio a few seasons back. Think it was back in the Fergie era.

I don't get the hate for Bailly at all, a few pre season games and apparently he is '*****'?

From what I've watched of preseason, admittedly not much but watched the whole of last game vs Galatasary and he looked impressive. Still raw and not sure how well he would work with Smalling but time shall tell.

Yep, at the time Juve were considering not keeping him. He would never have left of his own volition.

His parents have been season holders for decades. He was born a Juve fan, started his career there as a ballboy at 7 and has been there ever since.

What people saying Bailly **** :O He's been very good saved us a couple of goals against gala with his possitional play and pace. And is fairly good with the ball at his feet and good in the air. Once Mou irons out his diving in to much he will be quality. I wonder what fans watch and think sometimes. Memphis has also looked more confident this pre season. After that poor miss in the first game I think he's been ok. In fact was good against Gala beating players, tricks and pace.

Isn't he out injured as well for a while on top of being impossible to sign and probably not wanting to leave juventus

Yep, ligament injury. He will never want to leave Juve. Juve will have to push him out.

Odd that you think bailly has been *****...meanwhile I've been impressed with him considering his raw. Only downside is he sells himself too much but he's got really good pace to recover. I think he's got world class potential and who better to get the best out of him that mourinho? Especially when he's tutored young CBs like varane and zouma

If that's the case, Gabriel Paulista should do a worldie! What is it with aggressive defenders from other leagues? They all seem to be obsessed with diving in.

Haha, just seen the Moyesey interview in which he tells the press that they're after Januzaj and blondie Felli.
Something never changes. Still can't believe this guy has Manchester United on his CV.

Or that Ferguson still defends hand picking him.

Protecting his legacy with someone he knew would struggle? Because there's absolutely zero logical reason you can come up with to give someone who hadn't won a thing in over a ten year managerial career the Utd gig.

I thought Moyes was great what you talking about should still be in the job now ;)

In all seriousness though whoever they got was always on a hiding to nothing, Moyes failed and LVG wasn't great although the work LVG did I do genuinely think Jose will reap the benefits of. For all his failings he did some good groundwork just as he has at other clubs.

Tbf, from all indication, moyes was his last option behind guardiola, ancelotti and perhaps Jose himself (as he already made up his mind to return to chelsea)

Oh, absolutely. Which is another reason why Paisley is right up there with Ferguson as the best of all time IMHO. The hardest job in football management is following an absolute legend as Utd have discovered. Paisley not only reluctantly followed Shankly, he blew his trophy's out of the water. Rebuilding the side twice and doing all he did in a 9 year spell. So whomever followed Ferguson was on a hiding to nothing. And let's be honest it wasn't a great squad by any means for a Ferguson squad to be inheriting.

But to still stick to it that Moyes was the right appointment and he'd do it all again ..... Something doesn't sit right at all there to be kind.

its an interesting question though who should they have gone with instead I am struggling to think who was available at the time, and for the reasons you mentioned its probably why people avoided the job.

I'll put it out there to United fans now to have some interesting forum discussion

you can go back 3 years who do you go and get and why?

Same person I said then who was free. Mourinho

.... Charlton point blank blocked the move.

Has he spoken on the appointment? On or off the record do you know? I mean he'd be as diplomatic as ever regardless like, but just curious if he's had anything to say given how he's always been dead against him coming into Utd.

Remember seeing a few interviews on MUTV from both him and Jose. And like you said both very diplomatic and praising for each other. At the end of the day I think Charlton just wants what's best for the club after all especially after a bit of a dire period. When Mou came and they met each other it looked all friendly and that but a bit staged and awkward. As long as we start winning I don't think those who were against Mou will care to much. Or in Charltons case be around the club as often.

Precisely. And mourinho's thinly veiled comments (as well as castle's who is his mouthpiece) at the time was to the effect that he wanted and expected to be chosen instead of moysey.

We all know how arrogant mourinho is. By that time he was ready to do the two things left for him to do: follow a true and be successful and also build a legacy and then manage portugal.
