And he'll continue to have them against teams like Southampton, but against top opposition it's going to be exposed badly. It's the same problem as with playing Rooney at CM. Holywood footballers never work in the 2 man midfield.
Unless your name is Toni kroos.

Well that's not really true, how often do you see Kroos dribbling or doing fancy flicks? Sure, he play a Holywood pass, but his primary concern is to keep the ball moving and always be available for a pass. Pivot player needs to be reliable first of all. You would never see Carrick or Alonso flipping the ball over people's head in a situation where simple short pass will do the job.

Rooney is part of the problem with Pogba if you ask me.... using a 3 man midfield you then have to put Rooney somewhere he is practically useless. When we realise Rooney is droppable only then will our other players be able to be utilised at their best.

Play Rooney on the right wing imo, in the Mata role. And use Pogba, Fellaini, Herrera, Mkhi, Mata, Schneiderlin and Carrick in the central positions

United's midfield shouldn't contain Rooney.

Trusting Rooney was the downfall of both Moyes and LVG, and Mou needs to learn from their mistakes if he wants to do better.

When it comes to your Pogba situation, it makes me think young Gerrard. Gerrard was much tougher mentally, while Pogba has superior technical ability, but otherwise they have very similar characteristics. Both fantastic athletes, with determination to drive forward, well rounded skillset in all aspects of the game, wicked long shot, but lacking in tactical discipline.

If you build your team around a guy like that he will repay you tenfold, but if you try to fit him into some preexisting tactical scheme, it's a waste.

I don't know, considering the extent of character assassination club pulled on LVG, it's not exactly a stretch to assume they might have done the same to his most trusted lieutenant. Those leaks didn't leak themselves.

The sidelining of Schneiderlin is another mystery, neither Van Gaal nor Mou seem to trust him, and **** if I understand why. He's better defensively then Fellaini and has far superior passing range.

Thursday could change a lot of that. Worth seeing the team he puts out.

Hoping for this, but don't think he'll make 11 changes for Feyenoord

RM: Young

Lots of players do although they do it at the right time. I can think of Verratti, Modric, Kroos, Rakitic and Cazorla who's seen a late transition to central midfield. All very rarely lose the ball and decent dribblers. There are lots of deep midfielders that dribble but pick their moments at better times.

This sounds exactly like the situation at Arsenal. You play Ramsey who bombs foward at every opportunity or Cazorla at Central midfield. Ramsey is box to box while Cazorla dictates play from deep. Pogba is good on the ball but he won't dictate play from deep. He's got to learn that part of his game.

With double pivots, it is all about balance and co-ordination between the 2 in the pivot, their roles need to be clear cut.Look at Matic and Fabregas from Chelsea's title win.Fabregas dictated play and provided creativity while Matic held up his part as defensive muscle.According to me, we didn't need Pogba in the first place but, if he is to be accommodated in a pivot, he needs to take up a stronger defensive role and have someone behind him dictating play(Carrick or Basti), not with a fellaini.Martial and Mkhitaryan need to be playing more, so does Rashford, they are the best players we have, Rooney really has to be transitioned now..

Zlatan
Martial Rashford. Mkhitaryan
Carrick. Pogba
Shaw. Bailly Smalling Darmian
Ddg
As much of a good player Bailly is, we all must agree that Aggressive, strong Centre back wasn't the kind of centre back we needed, we already have Smalling for that. This is what I see as a mistake by Mourinho and the transfer team, the failure to bring in a sleeker, faster cover CB(like Rugani) and the resultant over-reliance on Blind..The worst thing is, he isn't the first to make that mistake

Disagree on both counts. Bailly also has excellent distribution.

No Martial? I would have him instead of Zlatan. Would also start DDG. What about TFM?

truth is, doesnt matter if its 2 man or 3 man.

Rooney needs to be removed from the equation in midfield.
