The Manchester United Thread

To be fair everybody wanted Rooney 8 or so years ago. Do you think Mourinho is seeing that same player every day in training? Because if he is he's not doing it come kick off. He could be Messi in training, when your relaxed and going through the motions against players you train against day in day out, but when it comes to the match and he's playing like he's wearing concrete boots he's a liability to the team.

Far be it from me to stick up for the despicable ******* (not a Utd slur before anyone jumps. I called him a lot worse to the Chelsea fans on here. Horrible man) that is Jose Mourinho. But I seriously doubt he'd either be 'influenced' by anyone when it came to the football side and who he should and shouldn't pick (he'd never of taken the job if he didn't have full control. Or just walk ala Arneson at Chelsea); or that he'd be selecting a player to the detriment of the team over someone he thought could do a better job. Mourinho is ALL about the win. And next to NOTHING is allowed to get in the way of that.

I completely agree with you and everyone else having watched him this year, and find it utterly bizarre to be kind. But what I or anyone else thinks is immaterial. Mourinho patently thinks otherwise and he needs to be allowed to stand and fall on what he believes.

Seriously find it a massive stretch to think Mourinho of all people would jeopardise his chances of victory if he didn't believe there was a better option.

Thats exactly why I dont understand why he keeps playing him. Mourinho has been banging on today about Einstein's in football. But its doesn't take Einstein to see that Rooney has been absolute ***** for 3 years now, and barring the odd assist and goal here and there, were worse off with him in the team. He cant control a ball and hasnt been able to for a few years now. His short passing is non existent. His hollywood passes are hit and miss, and a lot of the time him doing a long floated pass slows our play down rather than two or three quick passes and play somebody with pace through on goal.

It still comes back to the same thing. Rooney must be tearing everyone to shreds in training and is impressing. But like I said, when you have been there years playing against the same players day in day out, he might stand out in training and look like hes good, but as soon as it comes to matchday we might as well be playing with 10 men. Surely a point has got to come where Jose looks at him and says your not performing when you actually need to. IN THE MATCH.

I can't fault Rooney's work rate. I dont think there is anybody on the pitch who works as hard as him, but running around doesnt win you football matches. I think he'd be much more effective coming off the bench. Let him get that fire to come on and prove a point. Be the difference in games. Then he "should" play himself back into form. But as long as he is starting week in week out regardless of performance, I cant see it getting any better.

Quite a bit off topic, but hoping Manchester through & through Anthony Crolla does the business tomorrow night!

Might be going to that. Should know by 2moz afternoon. He's a mate of mine, and as much as I obviously want him to win, I can't see it. I think late stopage for Linares. He's a class act that guy. Also just seen rumours of Fury being injured again and pulling out lol. So looks like more than his car broke down the other week.

Those quotes come from a book and he said them in early 2014, they don't like each other but, given that he won the league after saying them not overly concerned

I've seen some of the claims from the book. Just to note, it wasn't authorised by Mourinho and some of the claims are absurd. The journalist is just trying to stir controversy.

Its going to be a real barnstormer of a fight I feel, Crolla will have to be at his absolute best but its interesting because of how vulnerable Linares can be. Linares is really slick and has all the skills you would expect from someone who is a 3 weight world champion if memory serves me correctly. But we saw when he fought Kevin Mitchell he can be lazy and vulnerable, but also pretty explosive as we saw at the back end of that fight when Mitchell got that horrendous cut. Crolla needs to start fast and not let Linares breathe pretty much what Hatton did to Kosta Zsyu.

Being just about the only Liverpudlian with no interest in boxing, is that at the MEN?

Never been there but remember the 'Guinness Soccer 6' the G-Mex the late '80's? That was hilariously bizarre and brilliant in one go. Big 6 a-side tourney from squads of 10 over a couple of nights. 7 mins aside. Rolling subs. One man had to be the oppos half at all times. Sin bins as teams went all out and body checks and tackles flew in haha. Ball constantly in play being webbed off the backboards to get round players. All covered on Sports Night like it was the WC and a real big deal by the clubs. Seem to recal Charlton won one. Remember L'pool getting hammered by Luton 4 in another final which I was devoed with LMAO. Packed crowds, and the second one was memorable for second division City being invited, and a massive kick-off down one side the seats between City and Utd lol.

God, nobody would believe ALL the top flight clubs would of done that on a spare midweek now haha.

Happy days.

I actually think he'll do the business tonight mate!! If United beat Leicester this early afternoon then it's a good sign, everytime they've played on the same day as one of his fights, both of them have always won, he even won the British title on the exact same day we beat City in the that 3-2 thriller a few years back courtesy of that Rooney bicycle. (yes, I'm a superstitious so&so.)

His performance against Barroso was genius. Cant believe the ammount of punnishment he took just to tire him out. Was just a punch bag for 5 rounds soaking everything up and kept walking forward. By the 6th he could hardly throw a punch he was that knackered so Crolla went to the body knowing it would knock everything left out of him. Perfect game plan.

But he cant do that tonight. Like you say he needs to get at him early. I wouldnt say Crolla is that big of a puncher so im not sure if he would actually hurt him in the earlier rounds while he's fresh. Unless he lands a really big body shot that does damage. He cant stand there and take punches like he did against Barroso so it will be interesting to see what his game plan is.

Early in the season yes, but this is a huge game today that we have to win. Another defeat and I really fear for us this season and Mourinho for that matter.

If Rooney plays again and we lose it will be 100 times worse. Really need a win today. But not just a win. We need a really good performance more than anything.

Zlatan to score; 3 in 2 at Old Trafford, scored against City, didn't start against Feyenoord, looked for all money to have scored against Watford all for Gomes acting like David De Gea - and United to win to nil.

That's my prediction, now watch Zlatan missing an open net and Leicester wining 4-3.

Can't believe there is even this debate going round the English media about who to drop out of Rooney and Ibrahimovic. Just shows the biased nature of our media when it is even a debate, 'drop the guy who scores goals' or 'the guy who struggles to control a football lately'.

Yeah he cant do that against Linares because he wants to he can bang but its how slick Linares can be too. How id beat him is with workrate which Crolla defo has over him but he needs to get inside hit him with one or too then slip left or right of him then hit him again then go back outside. Honestly I cannot call it either way and I am usually decent with fight predictions I just dunno be very close one its a pick em fight.

MOURINHO HAS BALLS. This is a momentus day for the end of Rooney. Halleuijah.

But whoever it was who said about using Rooney on Thursday as a way of having an excuse to drop him on Sunday appears to be right.

Ok, so...I'm taking your bets now. Who wanna bet we'll still play like ****?

Glad Rooney has been dropped but why a midfield 2 of pogba and Herrera? The back 4 are going to be massively exposed as pogba and Herrera will naturally get forward. Dont get me wrong, I'm glad to see pogba and especially Herrera in the team but I think this is completely the wrong setup again to get the best out of them.
